  1. Come on ash you can do it. Poor girl must be tired we had yesterday of being restless all day but was totally surprised how quickly it was all over with.

Bubbas are going ok still concerned about the girl. Im going to take them to the vet on monday for a check up they said if i was concerned bring them in but all semm ok and mum is oing ok she is laying on the heat pad with them as its a bit cold here today. Not super keen on taking them to the vets as theres been alot of parvo around luckily im out of town and fully vaccinated but im scared to take mum and bubs in

Question how do you travel with them put them all in a crate with mum or i was thinking mum on backseat with babies in a box so she can still see them she stresses about the when i make her go out to the toilet.

I find it easiest with two people. Zara got really stressed yesterday but normally mine have been fine. I put mum in the backseet and have someone sit there with her with puppies in a box/ washing basket with hot water bottle and towels. Mum can see/ lick the pups if she wants to, but I wouldn't leave her alone with the pups in the basket and most mums will try and climb in and end up hurting the pups.

Seems to work well for me :)

Good news that Ash is doing well Blitza - can't wiat to hear the final count.

  2. Our bubbas are jack russells fibal count was 5 three boys two girl. One giirl was slow to get going and slow to feed just kept putting her on over night and this morning seems to be going ok mums milk s coming in nicely. Is it recommended for a vet check today or wait till monday my vets are closed sunday except for emergency. Mum and bub seem fine mum still has discharge not smelly just bit yucky ill clean her up this morning i didnt want to worry her too much last night

5 seems to be the number for the month! Good work mumma - glad everything is going ok and the girl is doing better. I always take them to the vet on day 2, but others may do otherwise....

  3. Have got the fan on her now and a cold towel on her and it seems to be bringing her temp down. I think she worked herself into such a frenzy this evening at the vet it may have caused the spike in the temperature. She was one stressed out little poppet because she couldn't get to her babies!!

  4. Is Zara otherwise ok, LP?

Do you know if she definitely passed all of the placentas? Could she have retained one?

Zara is otherwise 100% fine GL - in every respect of the word :)

Definitely passed all the placentas - 1 placenta per pup on delivery and she also was given a shot of Oxy after the last pup to make sure she was empty. Vet was pretty confident when he saw her this arvo that she was going great, so doubt mastitis as he checked her all over also....

  5. Hi Guys,

Just got a quick question - I took them all to the vets today for a check up and they all seem fine. Vet is very happy with Zara. She's feeding them well, her boobs are good and the pups are quiet and well fed, good weights etc etc. She's had little to no discharge post whelping and she is eating well. Nice and relaxed with her pups and very attentive. Now I've never really fussed with Kinta and taking a temperatue post whelping, but I for some strange reason decided to with Zara just now, and she's got a slightly high temp around 39.5. Is this normal and would you guys worry? I'm not too worried given pups are fine and mums are fine, but more just curious for future reference because I've never thought to take her temp post whelping unless I was concerned for illness.... (eg mastitis etc)

  6. As ive never one this before my two mentors are being driven crazy by emails and phone calls they will be glad its over have two friends wo breed also on stand by. Silly bugger has scratched the top of her nose rearrangng her bedding. Still got to spend tome working out how to post photos might be up all night so can do it then

Haha Dogmate - mentos are the best - I had a few people to call on and they were just amazing. Was my third litter but first natural birth, so lets just say I was a little less than calm :o.

haha GL - so does that mean pregnancy brain affects dog owners too?!?!?!

I know it does with me!! LOL

Haha - I don't feel so bad then!

haha GL - so does that mean pregnancy brain affects dog owners too?!?!?!

I know it does with me!! LOL

Yep i think me too. I must be nesting cause im ironing and i ate ironing but feel i need to get it done in between mumma checks

haha - I did that too! cleaned the whole house top to bottom with the thought 'I won't be doing much of this once the puppies are here" Hahaha!

We have babies. She waited till my daughter got home from school she is her dog she trains and trials her. She was home for about 10 minutes and she presented the first pup that was at 5:40pm she jad had four three boys and a girl. We wAnted a boy so pretty excited. The little girl is quite small and having trouble gettiing her to suck she wants to but not opening her mouth the other were half out and already turning to find a teat. She was sluggish from the start she how she goes. Mum has had an egg flip have changed her beddign and wait to see if she has another.

Congratulations dogmate! What breed? Glad to hear everything is going smoothly. Fingers crossed for the little girl

Looks like tonight or early tomorrow morning ,she's trembling and panting now

Good luck blitza. Zara only started trembling just before the contractions so my guess is tonight :)

  7. thanks everyone! She's being a perfect mum - very attentive but not OTT. Making my job very easy. Already has hopped out of the box without force a couple of times, had a play with the other dogs before going back to maternal duties  I could have sworn she's done it all before!

Ptolomy - fingers crossed for yourself too. Cider looks like she's got a few packed in there!

GL - needless to say I probably won't do any more than pop by on Saturday if I can get a dog sitter ;-). See how she's going!

  8. well I couldn't have asked for a more textbook whelping.

Zara was restless all of yesterday and even though she hadn't had the temp drop, you could feel her uterus contracting at intervals throughout the day. By 1am last night, I decided nothing was going to happen, she was pretty settled and in my room so I would hear if anything happened. I woke at 7am, took her out to the loo, she was very clingy so I then let her jump back on my bed for cuddles. I could feel her contractions this time and could visibly see her contract. Popped her in the whelping box (not that she wanted to stay!) and within 30mins we had our first pup. 15mins later a 2nd, then a bit of a break, 2 more and then a bit more of a break and another pup.

Mum is doing amazingly well as are the pups. A bit freaked out with the first one born feet first and I had to pull her out, but she is going strong now. I had help by the 3rd pup and they are all settled and feeding now. Done and dusted by 10:30am!

Couldn't have asked for a better time for whelping!

    Breakdown is

    2 blue boys (1 NBT)

    2 black girls (1 NBT)

    1 black boy

Lovely markings on all of them :D. So proud of my girl. She was a real pro.

  9. love the pics smish - lovely bubba's! Look at poor muma's tum! haha!

Have a question for you all - do all of you 'catch' the temp drop? I'm paranoid I've missed it. Zara has been very restless today, it's my first day off so prior days I haven't been able to take the lunch time temp, so I've been doing AM/early PM/ before bed. Her temp has been pretty steady throughout. anywhere from 37.7 - 38.2. When I've been resting my hand on her belly she's been really tense and you can feel the muscles relax and then contract again slightly - I take it as nature preparing for the next few days... but I can't help but worry given her mum had inertia. She's not nesting, she's panty but that's understandable given the heat today!

Other than that - she's been great. Much easier than her mum who's temp went up and down like a baloon. She's day 62 tomorrow. :o.

  10. Haha - well they are active little kiddies today. I can feel them really moving about and I'm on leave for a week now... so she better have 'em soon!

I'm sticking to my modest guess of 4, but I think you may be right GL. No stethoscope here... haha - haven't used one of those since uni days!

  11. I still have no idea - I'm such a bad guesser. I also haven't felt these pups move 1/2 as much as the others - so not sure if that's Zara, because there are fewer pups or because I've just done it less?! Haha!

I'll let you guys be the judge - these pics were taken today/ yesterday.

Sorry for the bad belly shot!

  12. Well I picked my girl up again from my breeders house where she was being looked after while I was away. She definitely looks preggo now but is still keeping numbers to herself. She is 7 weeks today so might try and take some pics soon. Looking back at photos from Kinta's first litter, I would say they are quite similar, so I would expect a littler of somewhere between 4-7 for Zara. Kinta had 6 in her first, but didn't really drop until the final week. I look at her photos at 5-7 weeks and you really can't see much at all! Hahaha! All I'm hoping for is an easy and stress free whelping around my annual leave please

I pick up my new whelping box this weekend. Dad is getting it on Saturday and then delivering it to mine on Monday. So will have to have the room all set up and ready before then. Might have to do that tonight! My leave starts from the 12th so hope Zara doesn't decide to have them before then
