  1. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly Piper!

Does she look very big at all?

Bigger than I expected with only 2 but nothing at all like she was with 9. She has gained between about 3.5 and 4kg since mating but some of that is condition. She was about 16.5kg when I mated her which is about 1kg under where she normally sits and yesterday was 20.1kg. I am hoping that means that the pups are not much bigger than last time if I take into account the condition she has put back on (definitely feels better over her ribs than she did) With the 9 puppies she gained between 9 and 10kg.

A couple of other breeders that felt and saw her thought more than 2 as well as she is visibly pregnant but just shows you never can tell.

I just want a nice girl. And I'm not asking much that nice girl needs to be nicely put together, have a temperament and drive suitable for dog sports and able to herd like it's mother. LOL So my bet is 2 quiet, laid back boys.

 at the charging more Piper :). It's socialisation in utero! hehehe!

Yeah - I know what you mean! Show quality please, with a stunning temperament, great drive and good ability for performance... yup we don't ask for much at all  Oh and no health issues either please!

I saw a friends bitch the other day who whelped only 2 puppies the other day - I saw her and my bet was on 5!!! Hahaha - yup you really never can tell!

  2. Please Add me I have Border Collie puppies Due on the 3rd, congrats to all thos expecting, can't wait to hear all the good news.

Geeze didn't you just have a litter?!? Puppies everywhere for you!!

@Ptolomy YAY for you tollers are on my to own one day list lmao.. can't wait to see them hope you have lots to pick from!!

6.5 weeks for us! waiting for little miss to drop lmao she is getting round but it doesn't look like the numbers the vet predicted lol OH is like had we not seem them on the scan he would have thought she's having us on LOL

I know how you feel smish!!! Zara is a little rounder, but I swear she's keeping her secret well hidden!

lol LP she might be doing same as her mum, didnt you say she didn't drop them till around 6-7 wk mark lol?

LOL - yeah especially looking 'back' at old pics when Kinta was preg it wasn't until she was 6-6.5wks that we started to get 'decent' preggo shots! hahaha! Zara is 6wks tomorrow and just starting to have that real preggo look. But then she is a much taller and longer dog than her mum, so more room to 'hide' the puppies!! hehe! going away for about a week tomorrow, so will be interesting to see how she looks when I return!

  4. Humping is not always about dominance/ sexual behaviour or anything like that. It can sometimes be anxiety or unsure of how to interact. Your bitch is going through a lot of changes at the moment and hormones are going wild - some that she is not sure what to do with it :)..

My girls all hump other dogs in the weeks after they've been mated, not sure why, but they seem to all do it...

  5. Just because I hear different stories from everyone.... what is the progesterone level when the bitch ovulates? You are always told "ideal mating time" or "mate 2 days after ovulation" etc, but few people say "ovulation occurs when progesterone levels arexxxx"

I'd be interested to know :p.

ETA - GL - what were you doing up at 1am in the morning?! LOL! Usually I take my dogs temp 3-4 times per day when they are in their final week. When I get up, as soon as I'm home from work and before I go to bed... If I could, I'd also do a lunch time, but not always possible, which is why I worry that I may miss the 'drop'..

  6. Interesting comments and thanks to you all :-)

One side note is that two of my friends have presented with the same problem.

One has had inertia in both of her bitches and prog levels got as low at 3.0 with no more than a 1/2 degree drop.

One had a 1/2 degree drop, waited it out and by the time it became concerning, she rushed to the vet, almost lost the girl an list 3 pups. Guess its hard to know exactly what to do...

  7. Thanks GL. I guess the difference with my story and some of the scary stories I have heard, all other girls have gone past 63 days. We prog all our girls before mating so I have a pretty good idea of when whelping should occur. Zaras prog at first mating was 65!

  8. Wanted some advice please :)

Kinta, mother to Zara had the following patterns with her two litters:

    First litter - 2009

Day 58 - 1/2 degree drop, then next 48 hrs no signs of labor etc. Her drop was low enough to say 'whelping is iminent' as per the chart. When I rang the vet and breeder they weren't worried as they felt the drop wasn't significant enough. I took her for a prog anyway - results were at 5.5 and we opted to do a C-section on day 60. She never showed any signs of labor.

    Second litter -2012

Day 58 - 1/2 degree drop, next 48 hrs slighly restless but no signs of labor. Under vet advice, I had booked her in on day 60 for a preliminary prog to see what was happening. That morning, her temp dropped a full deg-deg and a half. I took her to the vet anyway, and thought the prog would indicate imininant whelping that evening. Prog levels came back at 5.0 and under vet advice we did a c-section. She never showed any other signs of labor - but I do wonder what would have happened if we let her go until that night.

    Breeders notes:

    *No intertia in the lines

*her bitches seldom nest and go straight to late stages of labor and begin to have puppies shortly after that.

*In both litters (of 6 and 5) for Kinta, no puppies were lost, the first litter she was riddled with infection and uterus was very messy, 2nd litter uterus clean and the pregnancy was problem free.

My question is... what would I do for her daughter zara? If I get a 1/2 degree drop and no action, should I take her for a prog (knowing it almost definitely means a cesarian, but the likelihood of healthy babies...), do I wait her out and hope for the 'bigger' drop...

At the back of my mind are all those horror stories where the breeders have left it too long and lost the whole litter... would really appreciate some thoughts/ advice :)

  9. Only one trial for each left in the year so lets see how we've gone....

    Leo

I think this will be his last year of agility trialling or at least 'serious' agility trials so I would like:

    *JDM title

    *ADO title

    *JDO title

    *Have fun at the Nationals!

    *RN (Possibly RA) title

    *A UD pass or 3!

    *PT title

    *Neuter Champion Title!

He achieved JDM title, 3 passes to each of his ADO and JDO titles, qualified for the finals at the nationals in master agility, RA title, Neuter Champion title and still no luck with UD (any passes)! Not a bad year!

We didn't do herding either, so that makes the PT a little hard :o

    Kinta

Most importantly I'm hoping for healthy happy Kinta babies PLEASE!! :crossfingers:

    *ADM title

    *JDO title

*GET to the nationals without being in season

    *RN (possibly RA) title

    *PT title

Kinta gave me some lovely fat healthy babes who are making their new owners very happy, she ran very well at the nationals, we changed our agility plans and she is now heading to her AG Ch and is well on her way. She gained her RN and RA titles, and has 6 legs to her ADM title with one more trial left in the year. Again, no herding for the miss!

    Zara

I'm also hoping for healthy happy Zara babies PLEASE (and a show quality one!) :crossfingers:

*Get into an agility ring with my dad

    *PT/HSAs title....

My dad did a few trials with Zara this year and they are starting to have lots of fun. Babies on the way, and unfortunately no herding for her either!

    Tahlia

*Dear Santa - May i please have a long lucious coat on my show dog please?!

*More points towards her Ch title and some classes in Group

    *JD title

    *PT title

    *RN title

*Some awesome drive and awesomeness on the agility field!

Bug has 2 legs to her JD title with one trial left. No competition in the Rally or herding stakes so those points are moot :o.

So proud of my kids this year!

  10. A few of mine have been a bit off colour around the 3 week to 4 week mark LP. No actual vomiting, but looking very 'green'- sometimes off their food, eating more grass, etc.

Leopuppy we have had a couple of vomiting episodes in the last few days too (she is not confirmed pregnant yet either)

Our girl went off her food in a major manner.. current diet is bikkies mixed in with tin food :vomit: sadly it's all she will eat but as long as theres food going in i guess its okay.. shes packed on the kilos though. making up for the weeks that she cant eat due to a belly full

Thanks guys! Makes me feel a little bit better. Kinta never went off her food, even when her temp dropped and after she had the pups - greedy guts! Whereas I think Zara is going to be a lot more fussy so I might look into a few things there....

What worries me is she doesn't look pregnant at all! Geez I'm such a worry wart! Kinta never really looked pregnant either, but I am sure I convinced myself she looked huge  But Zara - well she just looks her normal athletic self with massive boobs

She seems much better today. Less 'hungover' look about her and has kept her food down. Told dad to feed her 3 x per day now and to basically feed her whatever she wants

    Best of luck Blitza.

  11. Has anyones bitches ever had morning sickness before? Zara was feeling pretty worse for wear yesterday. I think she brought up most of her breakfast and last nights dinner and unfortunately we were away from home (I was trialling the other dogs and she was with me as my parents were away). After about 2 hrs, she was her usual sprightly self and back to normal....

She's also thinner than I would like a preg bitch. She's on advance active and is having 4c/ day.... what else can I give her to fatten her up? She's got a bit of a sensitive tum so I need to be careful what I give her :o.

    suggestions welcome!

  12. I have to laugh. Someone I know did a surgical ai with frozen semen and was told at the ultrasound by his vet maybe4-6 pups, he thought she was having a few more, maybe 8. Well today she had 14!! My vets have never really given me a number, usually just said "lots", lol.

Haha - that's funny. Guess it's hard to tell from an U/S how many there actually are. I'm still not convinced about Zara so I guess time will tell. I'm predicting a small litter.. hehe.

but then, who knows! My breeder told me of one dog she had - didn't look pregnant at all so she was expecting 1 or 2 pups and ended up with 8 or 9!

  13. :cheer: yee har! Pregnancy is confirmed! No ideas on numbers as vet didn't count, I saw at least 5 'sacs' but then we could be counting the same one twice! hehe!

Is it normal for your vets to count? My vet said there was no point as he's counted before and then found out they had far less or far more than predicted so he just says to watch her grow and if she looks small, then x-ray at 8 weeks.

So yay!!! Now... just to wait and watch her grow fatter and fatter :)

  14. Fingers crossed for you LP! I'm guessing this is Zara? Who is the lucky fella?

My bitch is due in season any day but I don't have any stud males available. I'm going to prog test her to see when she peaks as last season she was 110 at day 7!!!

Oh and can Zara tell Rumour cycling every 8 months is great, I feel for those people that have bitches come in every 3-4 months!

Yup it's Zara :). Have to say 8mth cycling is very handy until it comes to the matings! hahaha!

I will tell you the hubby once I know she's up the duff :)
