  1. Yes just looked it up on their web site ...... it's called Chicken & Vegetables with Cheese.
  2. Well yeah aw well I guess the only other thing you could try is to introduce it little at a time over a few weeks. You can buy it in small rolls for about $4.50. Maybe just include a little with what he would normally eat and increase the amount. But you're right if he doesn't have a taste for it then no point forcing it, give him something he likes. Also try different 'flavours' ........ there is a chicken & cheese one (or it might be fish & cheese) ...... either way, I reckon cheese flavour is always temping to a dog.
  3. I just grabbed some of the Pal Pedigree from the shops. I was undecided about which brand to use but now I bought the Pal I dont thionk I want to use it after reading all the bits and pieces here about cereals being the main product. I think it is in Pedigree. I think I'll stick to Bonnie. I was just hoping to be able to buy it in smaller packets but the places around here sell it in 18kg bags for $35 ... I also saw some Coprice 20kg for $22. That seems really good value, but honestly I just dont understand ingredients and nutrition info on the dry food to decifer it all. I also feed Ecopet roll which is very good for dogs so I'm probably not as fussed about feeding a 'premium' dry. I dont think I'll buy Pal again and I'm reading all this stuff about introducing brands of foods and not chopping and changing so not sure if I should just ditch the Pal or just use it up and then switch again once the bag's gone, only grabbed a small 3kg bag today but didn't get the receipt to return !!!!.
  4. How much are you giving him? How much does he weigh? How are you cutting it up? From the day I gave it to my dogs I have never had them refuse it, ever. Even my CATS eat it sometimes and I went thru a period of feeding it to them too. I found it really hard to adjust mentally coming from tins. Back then when we were on Pal, there was this new franchise company that would come once a month to your house and give you food and a vet check so I firstly went over to them. They had concentrated tins (which on reflection was just Natures Own) and you only fed a much smaller amount than say Pal which is mostly water. Ecopet is very similar, the ingredient is natural and not full of water or by-product so you need much less. And feeding less I dont believe applies to the other rolls you buy from the supermarket, just Ecopet. The others may be water and byproduct. As far as I know Eco pet is quite an original.
  5. Well I can put my hand up and say I have used Ecopet for what seems like ever. I'm not sure how long they have been around but I reckon I've been buying it at least 7 years. I used to feed my dogs Pal and not only was it expensive it resulted in upset stomachs with runny poohs. I cant really recall how I got onto Ecopet but since switching have never looked back and I would never feed my dogs tin food aside from the very odd occassion I would have a tin of Natures Own in the cupboard in case I ran out of Ecopet. I think I went thru a bit of a stage of trying to find a product that didn't have by-product as the main ingredient and that may be how I discovered Ecopet. Back then it was really hard to find but now seems quite easy, even some Butchers and IGA supermarkets carry it. You wont find it in supermarkets like Coles/Safeway though and personally I hope it never does, that tends to be when good things end, prices skyrocket and product suffers over profit. Since introducing it to my dogs overnight the pooh situation in the yard resulted in never seeing an upset bowel motion again ... yes my dogs thrived on it too, always had healthy shiny coats. I went from a dog who had a very bad problem with runny pooh and having to get it checked and be on a special diet to a dog that didn't have a problem again. It was more affordable than Pal, better for the environment (less tins), better for the dogs health I believed but you do have to be careful as the product is so concentrated you wouldn't give them a whole heap. I know the packaging changed a few years back, and I believe now the reccommended amounts have increased significantly from earlier times. I dont think I ever fed my dog the recommended amounts but then I also supplimented with dry food. My blue heeler, I would feed about 1.5" of Ecopet cut into cubes each night but he'd also have a scoop of dry in the morning (which he would rarely eat) and a scoop of dry of a night under the Ecopet which he seemed to polish off also. My dogs always maintained healthy weight and my kelpie was actually overweight. from me, I never liked the chicken varieities I found they went off a lot quicker than the others so after a few bad batches stuck with the beef or lamb. Also watch the Use By dates as some stores carry old stock. Years ago they never used to have Use By dates and I would often get yukky batches, they must of had a few complaints about it, I wrote to them myself and then they introduced the expiries. Shop around, prices vary ... IGA sells it here for $6.99 per roll but pet shops can get up to the $7.99. You just cant go wrong with this product. I must sound like an employee rofl. I'm not, promise
  6. I have been through the whole seizure experience with my old kelpie x who suddenly developed them about age 9. It was tough, very distressing. She was sent for some brain test, I forget now it was so long ago but it was all clear. She would get them in clusters, normally in the colder weather and normally at ungodly hours of the morning (when her body was in complete rested state). Eventually she was put on the meds and once we had them downpat things seemed to settle down. The thing that makes then so frightening is they come from NO WHERE and in our case the dog would be effected significantly pacing and panting, confused and blinded for about 20-30 min after each episode. Sometimes she would go months without a seizures, other times she would have 2 or 3 in a three week period. I do remember my Vet saying it is unusual for a dog to develop 'epilepsy' at an older age, normally they get it before they are 5 so the seizures can be the cause of something else. We never found out what in our case, just learnt how to manage them. It takes a dedicated owner, especially if/when they go on meds. In the end we lost our girl to a sezisure about 3 years after she first started to get them, she just went into one and the Vet came and got her, tooko her back but couldn't stop them and had to put her under anasthetic to stop it. Unfortunately she never woke up and just as we were deciding to put her to sleep she went away on her own
  7. Love the Banner :-) It certainly sounds to me like you are working through your grief in a healthy constructive way. Let yourself have these feelings, let yourself cry. Work through it as you can, ie if it takes you 6 months to write the poem then so be it.
  8. I'm sorry you are hurting so much over the loss of Miss Timothy who looks absolutely adorable might I add in that photo. I know a little about grief and have had grief counselling a few years ago over something that happened in my life. The best thing you can do to move forward is to actively "do" things. Channel your energy and thoughts into finding ways to create remember your friend. Here are some ideas. Write a letter to Miss Timothy. Write a poem or create a web site in memory of Timothy. Put a lot of effort and thought into finding something very special and precious to buy in special memory of Timothy eg. a beautiful garden ornament; a lovely plant (keeping in mind it may die and cause upset); special figurine/ornament; maybe buy yourself a nice necklace or pendant that lets you put a photo inside. I just did a Google on 'dog memorial items' and there are tons of things out there to give you ideas. Are you a crafty person? ....Make a scrapbook album about Timothy. Make a handmade card with photo to send to your Vet. Hope this helps. Michelle
  9. Hi Sandra, I'm in Victoria. Berwick Obedience Club would be a close one. I am interested in a rescue dog moreso than a puppy, I just have some concerns. I normally have rescue animals but I'm wondering if this is one time (having a 4yo daughter) when I should get a puppy. Not to please her of course but I know our last dog who was a rescue at 9 months of age had been terribly mistreated and it took years and years for him to trust us and for me to trust him because he used to snap me. That would be very difficult if you had a child in the house, we didn't have kids back then and it was hard work! Personally I could do without the puppy and would prefer a dog that is grown but I know how much their history can effect who they are. Sad, they are the type of dogs I like to help.
  10. wow looks great. I am thinking of getting into Agility or activity of some sort with my next dog which we are leaning toward being a kelpie. There is a club near where we are that does all this. I've owned a Kelpie before, we both love them as a breed but at the end of the day it's me that is left to excercise. I wondered if Agility or other similar events would be a good way to help fulfil an active dogs need to work. How do you get into it? Start with basic obedience training then once you are at a certain level branch off into beginner Agility classes? Is this the type of thing you can do with a mature dog or more starting them from a younger age?
  11. I'm so sorry, it's very sad to read this Annie looked a gorgeous dog.
