I have a series of sensor lights around the house. That's such a clever idea S! Where did you get them please? :) Bunnings. They're battery operated and stick to the wall via a magnet.

It's a great idea though could get lost in the maelstrom of Facebook. I like the ACT one, though it would be good if people could upload photos of their lost and found dogs themselves which, although indicating it can't be done, actually has to be done by someone from Canberra Connect.

As people may have seen from my thread in rainbow bridge, my Grumpy left me yesterday. I didn't want a ceramic urn. I don't like most of them, finding them a bit kitsch, but my biggest consideration is that I'm a klutz and if I could possibly break something I would. I am getting something custom made for him. I found a seller on eBay that sells a locket with a paw print on it that I quite like. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/925-Sterling-Silver-Mans-Best-Friend-Paw-Memorabilia-Keepsake-Jewellery-Locket-/261109604700?pt=AU_FineJewellery&hash=item3ccb58615c#ht_5159wt_732

To most people, he was Ardee. To me, he was Ardee Beau, Monkey, Silly Creature, Big Bad Creature Man, and many other nicknames that he always answered to. But to DOLers, he was Grumpy. My Grumpy man left me and Princess Mini today. He liked chicken and duck, alive or dead, and he liked his walks and his cuddles. He tolerated the little blue girl as long as she didn't get in the way of his food and his toys. Above all, he loved me. He was a Mummy's boy. Grumpy put up with my singing to him, even though he didn't think I was any good and he was right, I'm not, but he was kind enough not to complain. I'll let the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem sing Ardee's theme song instead.

Ah, okay, ta. -
It rains and the Irish farm dogs don't want to get their delicate little paws wet.

Hey Bianca and westiemum, which Amazon seller do you get your Cholodin from? The ones I'm looking at either don't ship to Australia or charge a ridiculous shipping amount.

Sorry, question: is one of the dogs a Customs dog? That's not clear. -
You can change your internet service provider, though if you're locked into a contract it's a bit of an expensive way to troll people. Using a proxy would do it, too, but the easiest way is to Google the instructions.

No, it's mixed breeds Steamboat doesn't like (per m-sass). Steamboat has a staffy, jerry lee has a staffy, both write in the same way, particularly the accusing people of a conspiracy thing when someone has simply disagreed with his point of view. I didn't realise that jerry lee was Steamboat, no point in discussing the matter any further then, a complete waste of time  Actually now jerry lee has got his knickers in a bit of a knot the posting style does seems familiar. Picked it a while ago. Look at the overreaction to my saying terriers are too hard. Demands to know why I said it and then when he doesn't get a response, says people have a problem with my posts.

If it is it's not well enforced, since Troy knows full well this person keeps being banned and reincarnating themselves immediatly! All you need is a new IP address which you can get quite easily if you're so inclined.

This is the clique democratically elected by all full members that you're talking about? I curious why steamboat reregistered under jerry lee, only a month after joining.

Oh I don't know, they do have their moments  Unfortunately the biggest problem in all breed clubs is getting people on committee, too many members (not in our club thank goodness) love to whinge, but aren't prepared to do anything positive to instigate change, it's very easy to sit on the sidelines and complain, not so easy to join committee and actually do something. At the moment we have two pet owners on committee, one is our newsletter editor and one is our obedience co-ordinator and also runs breed rescue (and horror of horrors she also owns a crossbreed but guess what, she hasn't been expelled from the club :D) Neither of them is involved in showing. Perhaps that's the key. Don't have people in competition with each other in important positions.

Thats scarey. So few of the general public are even aware of the huge variety of choice they have in pedigree dogs, and wouldn't have a clue what a wheaten or Kerry Blue is.I was rapt to see pics on DOL not long ago of a some ones Lakeland...I'd forgotten them, though they were a favourite when I was younger.Made my day :) Actually, that's pretty good for wheatens and kerries.
-
Sheridan you should get a Gordon Setter :), we do a lot for our pet owners, a grooming and fun day, a field trial training day/BBQ and a winter walk in one of our local parks. We also run an obedience trial, we are definitely NOT 'all about showing'. Thanks Miranda, I do love the Gordons. They even have enough coat for me! Possibly not crazy enough ... ;)

I think the reply was aimed at the "shelter manager" who wrote the original piece. The answer advised what management types can try to do instead of following the same old methods of reducing the numbers of animals in their care. The system can really only change from within - when people who work in that environment say "enough" and look into other ways of lightening their load (so to speak). There were some very good suggestions for certain types of action that really wouldn't cost them anything, and will get animals leaving rather than dying and having to be disposed of. Sure - the "blame" lies with owners who surrender or don't come to get their dogs... but there are other ways to deal with the situation of animals in pounds and shelters that have proven to be very effective when put into place. T. Exactly. That's what the reply was about. No one blames shelter workers for working there and the fault lies with the owners who think they're disposable. But you can see what happens when the shelter decides enough is enough.

So, there were 299 registrations of maltese in 2011. My breed registrations in 2011: kerry blue terriers - 50 wheaten terriers - 70 And there were breeds with far fewer registrations. A breed club makes no difference at all to increasing registrations. I agree with Crickets. A breed club offers little to the pet owner as it's all about showing. You can do that without a breed club.
-
Well, I don't see why I should be made to feel terrible by the guilt industry that shelters and rescue has become because my dogs come from breeders. I don't contribute to dogs being in pounds and neither does any breeder I know.
-
Particularly the terrier breeds. Terriers are just too much hard work for most people.

I wrote something of the same sentiment albeit much shorter and not as eloquent and got a thoroughly hysterical response in OVERWROUGHT CAPS and loads of !!!!!!!!!

I've been seeing BIS as a wire fox terrier on FB?

This.

I put my tree up on a table and don't have anything on the lowest branch. The only presents are theirs and they go under the tree after they go to bed.

This is me and this is my daughters dog, we have all put time and effort into this little girl and she is a fantastic dog because of it. But when I see the poor little girl tumbling because my Dobies are to rough because they're running around with each other, it's not fair on Cinder. My daughter has had a lot if fun with Cinder and wants to continue on with the dogs. I worry about Cinder being hurt. ETA: can't be bothered.
