  1. Thank you all , lots of great info to research . Just going to read it all again and go from there
  2. My dog Bella ( red cattle dog in avatar ) is 9 and she's been on a joint mixture recommended called ' Joint saver Plus' that was recommended here which I get from ebay which hopefully has been doing it's job ( full tsp at night in her dinner) I noticed that in the last few months she's starting to be stiff and mildly favoring her hind legs at night . She's not overly active but gets walked every day . She's on a diet (28 kilo's) ( started after the symptoms) to shed 2-3 kilo's which I'm hoping will help her joints etc . She went to the vet on Wednesday and other then the mention of looking at using steroids sthe vet wasn't too concerned and didn't suggest them as a requirement for now so I'm hoping someone here can help give me some ideas what else I can give my dog to help with the stiff leggies as we call it :) She has 3/4 cup of Optimum Adult at night , with either 1/4 cup roo meat or vegies ( brown rice, mixed veg) and 1/4 cup Optimum in her treat ball in the morning while she plays with it outside . Would anyone have any ideas that can help ? I know as she gets older these might be normal symptoms but if I can help or prevent it getting worse I would do anything I can for her :)
  3. Thank you for your reply , I was hoping to hear from those who had professional knowledge but your comment is accepted for what it is
  4. New to this part of the Forums so hope that I'm on the right track posting his here :) Is there anything that can be done either about reporting listings on an online auction site or reporting the site itself when you come across listings of banned/restricted breeds of dogs ? There's a listing on www.quicksales.com.au with Dogo Argention puppies available , listing number 17932908 It has been reported by several members but the site is not known for sticking to it's own policies or acting on member reports . I'm really sick of this site's continuous breaches of policies where they let people list animals that contravene State requirements. I don't claim to know all the State laws on Breeds but I'm pretty sure the Dogo is a prohibited breed since 2010 ? Anyway I thought I'd come for advise and see if something can or should be done or if someone with better knowledge can follow it up.
  5. What a great day for everyone , thank you for sharing the update
  6. Thank you very much :) We have actually had a rather cold and longer winter up north so that could explain a lot .
  7. Ok , Bella is getting older and I'm getting paranoid about her health  She's a 7 year old Cattle Dog with no health issues other then mild arthritis ( being treated) But I noticed her nose has gone from full black to being a bit blotchy and paler in the middle. Someone said to me she must be lacking something and to get blood tests done but that seems a bit drastic considering she's hoovering her food , is active and her usual loving self . So nothing I can pinpoint . Is it normal to get colour loss/changes in dogs noses ? Not sure if it will show clearly on the photo , but she liked posing for it
  8. Do you have a link for this lady? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/110755489277?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_767wt_952 Dxenion, we give the horses a 30g scoop amount & the boys we give it to are both around 600-700kgs. This would last a long time on the dogs. I know a lot of people who use this as well with great results. Already arrived today ! Hubby was worried as he says it could be anything in the pack but I showed him the sellers feedback so he's ok about it now. I guess unless I had been given a referral I probably wouldn't buy it online like that . The pack has no ingredient list either . Maybe he should take some for a week
  9. no worries , I see she has a joint one for dogs so that will be the go Breathes a sigh of relief , I knew you wonderful people could help :) Bella says thank you too !
  10. Thanks for that link Ok for horses , but what dosage would a 24kg dog need ? and how do you mix the ratios?
  11. My 7 yr old Cattle dog Bella is showing signs of stiffness in one leg and hips after lying down (mainly by the end of the day) Other then cutting back on her activities and focusing on gentle exercise I already use Sasha's blend in her evening meal but wondered if the time has come to add additional supplements. But I'm not sure what , do fish oil ( for humans) capsules help or should I aim for specific dog supplements etc. Being pensioners we need to watch the cost so if a human supplement is similar to a dog one then that would be more cost effective but I don't want to do the wrong thing or mess about with trial and error . I'd would love some advise :)
  12. I discovered heaps of ticks on my Cattle dog ( about 25 now) , luckily they are not Paralysis ticks but tiny dark brown ticks ( about sesame seed size) most likely cattle ticks as she was near cattle 3 days ago. She is always treated with Frontline Plus but was due for a new dose early next week so at the end of the dosage cycle but I put a treatment on her last night at about 5pm . I've had to wash her this morning as we found more and using the hose to seperate her fur you can see them better and spend hours checking her fur but were still finding some here and there. Some have fallen off onto her bedding so it's been a day long saga with making sure her bedding is clean. She's fine and her usual starving self and a bit fed up with all the fussing but I'm wondering if the new dose of Frontline I put on yesterday would have worked enough over 12 or so hours to continue protection ? Also now I'm wondering how Frontline actually works , seeing there are ticks on her that have attached do they die when they bite ? Is that how Frontline works ? OH thinks I'm over reacting She's had them once before but they were bigger and we were able to find them easier
  13. Thanks for that Kirislin , I meant to come back but couldn't find the post She didn't have bruising but I do suspect that is whereabouts the injury is , it's not her ligaments or joints thank goodness. After keeping her confined to a small room and only toilet trips for 3 days were finally seeing some improvement . Poor baby must be so bored as she plays a lot and her ball has been confiscated
  14. Tried to do a search to see if there were any helpful topics but can't find any specific My ACD , active and ball mad looks like she has sprained her hind left leg , it got better with rest over two days , but today I noticed a slight limp again. Vet initially told me to keep her quiet for 2 days and no walking playing etc which seemed to work ok. Now I'm concerned it still isn't better , could it be worse then a sprain ? How long does a sprain take to get better ? ( I have no idea how she did it as it occurred after a normal gentle walk and being indoors , there was nothing to suggest she injured herself doing anything I saw her doing etc) I'm a bit reluctant to go back to the vet today as she wasn't too concerned and hubby thinks I'm over reacting
  15. I have a broken dog , mine will try and swim in 2 inches of water Which is just as well as we get more then 6 meters of rain a year up here
  16. The Boarding Kennel we use looses many a water container to visiting Labs one even ripped off the auto water drinker from the wall and was happily bathing in a sloppy mess. They have a swimming pool for doggies now , my dog loves it although you pay a fee I haven't got the heart not to let her use it as she'll try and swim in an inch of water
  17. MY dog Bella , now also called Red Dog by yesterdays visitors steps up to the plate for being a watch dog BUT only inside her home. No-one including friends will just walk in . She completely thinks that she knows everyone here by their car ( yep typical country dog) and it wouldn't matter who's in the car she's ready to say Hi regardless. Same in the Park or out walking , totally hopeless , loves people , loves kids loves dogs and cats and has her cat friend that waits for her on the corner when we go for walks. or so I thought . I have 2 commands for her that will make her react immediately , I've never really had to use them other then a test here and there to make sure she still reacts but a few months ago there was a strange guy in the park doing Tai Chi . No problem I thought he's doing his own thing I'll continue on , after I had passed him I noticed he was following . Most locals here know eachother but I didn't recognise him so was a bit put off , and where I walk is very isolated so I went to do a loop to return the way I came. He called out something abusive , didn't catch it all but was enough to guess that either he wasn't all there or on something , so as he approached I gave Bella the command ( on leash) Well she did me proud , done her nut at the guy , full teeth growl and "I'll have you for breakfast" routine There's no way she would have done anything more then that but he backed off and walked away muttering something. She's all show , but there's that little bit where I still think she would come good if needed. The visitor yesterday who called her Red Dog had an instant liking with her , she never barked at him and when he was indoors she sat on his foot Bella's way of saying " I like you "
  18. Crazy Daisy , I feel like that too Here we get quite a few farm dogs that roam , luckily most of their owners are pretty good if you talk to them but the amount of times I"ve been approached by dogs while out walking is enough to put me off sometimes. Today I just walked down my street and a Kelpie ( who needs training badly) just about broke it's neck when it came flying out from under the garage towards us but it's tied up so got janked back. Then the owner says "sit down Jessie , come on be a good girl" while the dog is doing it's nut It scared me that much I swear my heart stopped and I shook all the way to the park. I wish he'd just train the thing so it won't end up being a dangerous dog. All I want to do too is walk my dog , who is well trained and socialised yet you get hassled by other people dogs.
  19. can you message me sas ? I can't find them on the webpage
  20. They don't need to float , it's just that was on the description of the Dr Harry Packaging , floating rubber rings . We only use them in the park with the dog I tried vet products direct , but they only have Credit Card payment options and a weird invoicing system where additional taxes are added , couldn't make heads or tails of the invoice as it just didn't add up right .
  21. Bella is on her last rubber ring toy , we use 2 at play as she'll drop one then go for the next . Unfortunately with just one we seem to be doing a lot of retrieving ourselves They were the Dr Harry Floating Rubber Rings which apparently you now can't get , so would anyone know of a online Pet store that has them ? Our nearest pet store is in Cairns and they didn't have anything . anyone used this site ? http://morethanpaws.com.au/toys/
  22. vetnpetdirect came good , purchased 6 items and 4 days later they had arrived which is very good as deliveries take longer up here. www.dogfood.com.au looks great They really do have lots of stuff , off shopping again .................. :D
  23. Please don't risk it , even the slightest amount of unseen mould can cause illness. My son's cat ( same for them) was very lethargic and off colour but not ill , he took him the the Vet who couldn't find anything but they luckily discussed food , son went home to check the cat's Ukenuba (sp) dry food and it was rancid and also out of date . pet shop replaced the bag but under protest.
  24. Ok thank you , I'll redo the account thingy as their prices are still pretty much the best . No point asking our vet , only one in town and they charge crazy prices as it is
