  1. Ok since they have been on can food and biscuits you have to change the diet slowly. Give a bit of beef, chicken, petmince to equal amount of can, and slowly ween them off the can food. Yes it can make the poo slimey at first, but chicken necks will bound them if giving too much, so it will stop getting slimey. I get my pet mince from a pet produce store, I wouldnt use human mince, but there is some that are a bit more expensive for dogs in the dog section of the supermarket too, bagged. Butchers is a good place to start, and you can also give marrow bone, brisket bones as they need this while they are teething, but will still need it when they are older to keep the teeth clean. Hope this helps you. Just remember introduce gradually.
  2. Science diet bickies are good for them but they need red meat and chicken too. Too much bickies cause too much pooh, Ive noticed with friends dogs the amount of pooh they have when on biscuits. More red meat and chicken neck, wings, carcasses is much better for them. Dont buy can food, its 90% water and goes through them too.
  3. When they are young they need regular toilet trips. Just because they are locked up doesnt mean they dont have to go. Maybe its what you are feeding, or the amount you are feeding. Do the opposite, bigger feeds in the morning so you can take them outside more often during the day and small feed at night, early evening. There are some foods that go straight through dogs too.
  4. Oh I am sooooo sorry for King. How awful it is for him. Im sending vibes all your way, and hopefully King will be fine this morning. Really sad story, I have tears. Its not nice when they are sick and theres not much you can do for them. Makes me mad when ppl send their sick dogs away and yours gets it. Surely they must have noticed something. Again, hope he will be on the improve. Best of luck.
  5. Agree with hesapandabear, the lactade is great stuff and nutrigel will give him energy. Put some on your finger and then just put it on his tongue. Slippery Elm is also fantastic. I had a sick bitch here the other week and in no time she was up and running again. If you cant find it at the chemist, I got mine at the health food shop.
  6. We will just say, they have no choice. They will clip her.
  7. This person has obviously left it too long. Alot of ppl dont realise how hard it is to maintain a coat properly. But you cant blame everyone all the time, this dogs coat looks the same as my brown bitch through coat change. She has a fluffy type coat, I hated it. It matted everyday. Its alright for us that have clippers and blowdryers but ppl that dont do this struggle to keep their dogs matt free. Most ppl just brush the top coat as they dont know any better, I have shown alot of ppl how to do it too but its still hard for alot of them to cope with, especially if it has the cocker thick coat it would be even harder to maintain.
  8. Sorry poodlefan, totally disagree here. Im a pro groomer, and alot of ppl I know will still use the Oster. Yes they get hot, but Wahl dont last no where near as long. I can still get parts for mine, but havnt needed any. Again I guess its too each individual. Also I would use size 5 only cause your coats are thicker and I find the blades vibrate and stick. Size 7 or 8 1/2 is the best for your breed.
  9. but Oster lasts alot longer. Personally I would suggest that you get a groomer to do it for you. I have seen too many ppl pay for a good pair of clippers and give up. If you dont know what you are doing you could nik the dog. And a keeshond that has never been done before, trust me, Not easy. How many times would he/she have to be done?
  10. Sorry but I don't quite understand the above comment "This is where breeder versus pet homes". Are you saying you only sell your dogs to other breeders? Are you saying that pet homes do not offer the best of care to their dogs? Or are you pointing out the benefits of registered breeders versus the backyard variety? what I meant by my comment, is breeders on here on dol, and on the phone are always trying to explain to pet buyers that there are so many problems in the breed as it is, so why go to a backyarder, regardless if its suppose to be a pure or cross, I warn them what problems their dogs may have/get. I state, ok our dogs are a bit more expensive, but you are buying with a guarantee, we test. Problems may arise, we hope never. But while we are testing, we are minimising the problems that do exist. Backyard breeders dont test, and if they did any was maybe once, or they bought a pet from a breeder who handed over the tests so the pet buyer (at least thats who they thought bought) at that would be the tests the bbs would more than likely show to the unsuspected buyer. They buy our dogs so they dont get problems too, but they dont continue the testing every year like we do, as you never know when something will rear its ugly head, ontop of that the do this with an entirely different breed. Basically all our hard work to improve the breed has been stuffed. No I didnt mean that we are better and treat dogs better, infact my dogs go to pet people, I prefer them. Only 2 have gone out of the main reg. I have to trust ppl first before they can breed from my dogs. Mgr, I was saying what I said because you were thinking of a spoodle. Please dont do it. Take care of the one you have now, which I know you are, and just think long and hard before making the next decision. I just cant understand why after owning a pure bred why you would only want half of the same breed. Anyway hope all goes well with Ruby.
  11. Ok I am curious to know why you are still thinking of a crossbreed. People here are answering your questions, and trying to help, and its falling on deaf ears. I am really sorry for your girl what pain she is going through, but to think that you still want to chance it again with a spaniel x poodle, sorry dont think they deserve a name. As ppl have stated they arent a registered breed, and from the attitude of the breeder he is no good neither. Ok so he says he'll pay, but why not pay you regardless of whether the bill is more or less of the purchase price. Your girl has serious problems. And may I add it wont stop there. Dogs having surgery yes improve the legs, but they still end up with arthritis. I really am glad you are kind enough to look after Rubys well being that is nice, but I hope there is a lesson learnt from what has happened to Ruby, that you dont go and fall in the same trap. You say you have been reading on dol for a long time, then you should have known that these problems exist. This is where breeder versus pet homes, I shouldnt come down to it, but it does because alot of ppl are aware of backyarders selling stock like this but still choose to ignore us when we are here to help. Hope Ruby is well soon ;)
  12. I think the breeder is right, just put a pic of a pug I bought the other day. His eye turns every now and then too. But regardless, the breeder should have explained this from the start, when you mentioned it, as she was aware of these things happening. Oh and soooooooo love your baby, she is sooooooooo gorgeous. Love her markings. She looks as snug as a bug in a rug. Do you mind sharing about the exercises as I havnt been told what to do. Just curious.
  13. Well its been along time since we have heard from him. Hate it when things go quiet. Hope he is ok. If he ate a whole flanel sorry guys, do not believe the whole piece would go down the intestines and out his butt. I would have taken my dog to the vet immediately. The vets as nasty as they can be with prices will do an op straight away to save a life, and you could have just paid them off whether they liked it or not.
  14. Dont think its at horselands, could be wrong but they may know where to get it. Good luck.
  15. not sure up your way where to get it. Ask any horse breeder/trainer, like at the stables or racecourses. They would all have heard of Rawleys. Its actually like a liquid and he would like the taste too much. There are heaps of Rawley products, just ask for the healing agent if you find someone up there that knows where to get it. Cant tell you the price its been a while since Ive had horses but know the product is still around. Its too popular.
  16. sorry to hear this shek, didnt realise. Maybe if you can find some Rawleys products, this is great on horses and heals things quickly, and the skin has often joined back. Its expensive but worth it.
  17. Its best not to use "NO" but a tone that sound like Bahhhh, or ahhhhhh. Although once in a while I say no. In my case its a heap of poodles playing in the house, being naughty, pulling out coat (hair) which is when I use the word Bahhhh with a tone. They stop and listen. But perserverance is the key to success. Poodles dont really need reminding, they just choose to be naughty, so you put them back in their place. They are a bit too intelligent and can get it over you if they want. While he is a pup, give him commands and reward him when he does good, give treats, dont over do the treats though. When the pup is older, you dont really need to give treats when they know what is expected, just reward them with GOOD BOY, and pats. Your puppy is just being a puppy, teething stage, being willful and playful but sounds quite normal. I just find upto 18 mths they can get testing AT TIMES, but again just put them back in their place, you are the pack leader, not them.
  18. Sivaro sends all her poodles over to Talbra lol.
  19. Oh Elire, forgot about her having browns. Very impressionable. Really do like her. Ok I said I wasnt gonna put on my dads pics as the colour was grose, but heres one cause I luved this pretty girl Tanielle, 4 points to get titled and mum clipped her off grrrrrrrrr. She had enough. The new hairdo Im trying so hard to get in fashion. Whatcha think :p Jag, see how good you are, BIS winner if you can do it. Hazz darling, lovey, sweetness, my name hasnt got an L in it, just SIVARO Thanxs for the lovely comment Jag, just luv the golden oldy. Woohoo. 20. Hi Hazz, Yes basically its hard to get a really nice silver now. Dont think there is much to go by with the lines anymore, there are still a couple of nice ones but its a dying colour the silver. Its a shame cause the are so pretty. Whites there are a few more nice ones to go on with but still luv what my mum had back in her days. Two of mums beautiful show pups in the 80s Mums first foundation bitch in early 70s Daughter of the foundation bitch. Little bit snipey. late 70s Would have put some other really nice ones on here but the quality of the photos were pretty bad. Sorry Jag, Ive hijacked your thread lol.
  21. Here are some pics of minis that I have sold. The first two pics are the same dogs. New mum always likes to play dress ups. Louis is the silver, Thijs origianally known as Bear is the black. Ready for a swim. Louis & Thijs, birthday party Mia who lives in Tassy, I no longer breed the silver, whites and creams Misty was bought as a Pets for Therapy Dog and living in Queensland Jag, your dog is soooooo beautiful. and the brown looks so much like my brown girl. Would that be one of Jacks kids in NSW? Mitzy, looking forward to seeing your new baby. You wont know yourself with a poodle. The are so much fun, willing to please, very intelligent, so dont let it get away with anything That name sounds nice, and dont worry if we like the name, the main thing is that you do.
  22. nah it would be the bedlington cause of the clipped ears and tail.
  23. Hey Jag, you have put pics up of show trims. Look at your avatar lol. Anyway put more up, love looking at pics. Your dogs are beautiful, may I ask the breeding? I just luv proud poodles that are full ov themself. thought i would put my new baby I bred on here. She is 7 weeks old now but pic taken at 6 weeks. Dixie saying rack off will ya Dixie stacking properly being good.
  24. lol Zorro, the long coat on a show poodle as in pics one is the puppy clip. The hair clipped is the Continental Clip. No it doesnt have to be that way, you can have the lion trim, thats where 3 poms go down the back leg. So I guess you'll luv the pics I put up, Here ya go, and just remember, if we had a choice, alot of ppl would clip their poodle off, it would make it less time consuming and stop the damn pain in my arms when I do the dogs. Continental Lion Puppy lamb with a difference lol. (bedlington)
  25. Very nice, Yes indeedy. And ofcourse my favourites, ......... that would be minis Lovely dogs. Well done.
