YAY! cheers oonga
  2. Hi Erny, it would be great to meet you at Rotty training some time, it is great to put a face to a name :D it would also be very appreciated i am sure if you were to volunteer your service, and a lovely gesture on your behalf, would probably be rewarding for you too, after reading your responses to people here it is obvious that you are one of those people who likes to help others Scope, i am sooo looking forward to the day that Hudson can walk around without a muzzle and i know that with your patience and committment to him and the supporting guidance you are receiving from people that day will come! hmmm the tunnel huh *raised eyebrow* see you wednesday!! cheers oonga
  3. Hi Crazy beagle lady, we will still be going to Southern every second sunday, more for all breed training, so will probably see you there with shoemonster Kelpie-i, i didn't introduce myself to the person i who i think may be Hillary, but if it is the same person i think you are talking about, i also saw him at the ROtty Champ show, and yes he was also handling dogs there, he is a good handler. also if it is the same person then he was dressed up as a clown at the end of the training session, seems also like an easy going fun person. cheers oonga
  4. Hi Scope, I just wanted to say that it was great to meet you and Hudson the other day at Rottie training. i look forward to seeing any small improvements with him over the coming months, i will try to watch him from the corner of my eye also want you to know that my partner and i have several times mentioned how inspiring it is to see your perseverance and dedication to Hudson. you truly are a good person and we felt really comfortable with your down to earth attitude. Keep up the excellent work you are doing cheers oonga
  5. Hello everyone, i just wanted to say that we took our little Maia to her first training class yesterday held by the Rotty club of Victoria, and co-ordinated by Herr Rottweiler. although Maia didn't actually have a training session, she did participate in the activity seesion at the end of the class. she was really funny, she had to run through one of those kiddy coloured tunnel things and 1st go she was VERY hesistant, although with encouragement she did go through, second go a little more confident, by the third go, she was so confident and enthusiastic she bounced and leaped through the tunnel only to headbut me at the other end!! it was hysterical, especially for those watching on the sidelines!!! anyhow the purpose of this post was to tell you all that it is an excellent place to go for training. Herr Rottweiler and all the volunteers there were full of information and knowledge and so eager to help. My partner and i feel very lucky to have this training available to us. it is so encouraging to see all the trainers SO enthusiastic about all the dogs, and so full of positive energy. for those of you thinking about going along please do, you will love it. anyhow just wanted to share the enthusiasm that was rubbed off on me hope to see some more DOL there cheers oonga
  6. Hi everylabdeservesakid, thanks for your ideas, i have been taking her out and supervising her, and we have since then twice caught her in the act, she is very quick!! but at least we were able to take her straight out. she does spend a lot of time outside anyway and comes in at night and periodically during the day. we don't have a huge place so if she is running around crazy she has to go back outside, otherwise she bumps into stuff and slips on the floorboards, we are going to get more rugs for the floors so she doesn't hurt her hips. i have been waking up twice in the night for her to take her to the toilet and she goes on the leash but as soon as we go outside and i say toilet she just drops at my feet and does nothing. she basically goes into her crate about 11pm and hasn't had any accidents then she goes outside for breakfast at about 7am. could it be that her bladder is strong enough to handle no wees overnight? i have also realised that your suggestion of splash back could be why she doesn't like going where i take her, it is like a clay/gravel area so have been taking her on the grass instead, where she herself goes when she goes on her own, and she still just lays down and puts her head on her paws and looks at me lovingly!! she is sooo gorgeous lol cheers oonga
  7. Sas thanks for that ebook have printed it out for easier reference. i think i stuffed up the first night our puppy was home, she is almost 15weeks old, never been toilet trained. she did a poop which we didn't catch in time, and 2 wees which we also missed. the 3rd wee i saw her doing it middway and unfortunately i yelled out NO and i think i scared her as she stopped at once, then we went outside but there was no more wee. i hope i haven't done any irrersible damage i took her out at 2am in the night but she just lay down at my feet and did nothing, so back inside to her crate. at 5am i took her out again, after 20mins she finally did a wee and praised her lots. anyhow yesterday was her second day here and we had no accidents inside, but we were taking her out hourly, she wouln't go to the toilet when asked to, but would at other times, my partner was the one who witnessed several wees and praised her lots, even though it was on the grass and not the area we would like her to be doing her toilet stuff he went to clean up her second poop and by the time he got back from getting a bag to put it in, she had eaten it!!! eugh! lol anyhow we are taking her out when she has that sniffing and looking around behaviour but it is difficult to tell whether she wants to do anything or is just checking things out? took her out twice again but this time there was not result, just lay down at my feet, i ended up giving her a pat and she just rolled over on her back so we came back inside, no accidents in her crate, could her bladder just be getting stronger? or is it because she didn't really eat yesterday? both nights she didn't have anything for about 3 hours before bed. am i doing the right thing? what shoould i be doing if she gets taken out at night and just lays at my feel? is it right to praise her when she does toilet outside in a different spot? i figure it is still outside and she is atleast learning the word? parenthood!!! LOL cheers oonga
  8. thanks for your quick response k9, much appreciated, i don't know if puppy has been taught positive or negative value towards other dogs, i mean she has been living with other dogs, but they are generally from what i can gather in seperate dog runs, is there are a way to know/test if she has been taught neutral, positve or negative values towards other dogs? cheers oonga
  9. WOW what a read!!! took me all day on and off LOL lots of interesting information and really has me thinking. my idea of socialization has been turned upside down i am having that whole thing of parenthood...wanting to do the best for our girl and getting information overload and i think k9 i have a few questions to ask if you are not over answering on this topic. 1. what is the absolute latest age you can start to teach your puppy neutralization.. we are getting our puppy tomorrow, but she will be 14and a half weeks old, i have a feeling this may be too old, but would appreciate your input. i was going to expose her to lots of socialization over the next week and a half to try and get as much as we can while the " ímprinting " stage is still happening, but then realized she would also be approaching that first fear stage, so wondered if we would be better off not doing too much, as she will also have the whole new home factor happening, meeting a cat possibly for the first time in her life, i will follow your advice on this and make all her socialization at this age safe. i have saved your article on the TOT as i think there is no real age barrier to this and think it sounds like a great thing to teach our puppy. 2.she will be attending the rotty club of victoria training on wednesday nights, obviously your dogs don't need to go to training classes LOL but do you consider this ok/safe at her age? i figure we are going to need to take her to some sort of training as my knowledge of training is almost next to nothing!! looking forward to your input. cheers oonga
