I would love to have him trained and ws looking at "Bark Busters"..?????? I would really love to learn to be a trainer,and would love to know also if anyone can give me tips on where and how i go about this? Im on Sydney NSW. Keshwar Posted July 7, 2007 Share Posted July 7, 2007 NDTF will give you a formal qualification but if you just want to learn to train your dog how about joining your local obedience club? Join the local obedience club - that will help him socialise, you to learn how others cope with these things and as the others said, learn to train yourself and your dog and then you can deicide if your really cut out to train other people and thier dogs. Staranais Posted July 7, 2007 Share Posted July 7, 2007 I wasn't impressed by what I've heard of bark busters either. Since it is a franchise, apparently some trainers are OK, but others are terrible. I wouldn't risk it myself. While you're looking for a good trainer to work with you and your dog, you might want to consider starting your dog on NILIF (aka Nothing in Life is Free - search or google) and/or Triangle of Temptation (thread at the top of this board). These programmes both help your dog to understand that you are the leader, which will make him feel calmer and more relaxed, and more receptive to training You might also want to investigate clicker training (again, search or google!) This is a type of positive training which is quite easy to pick up, and which won't hurt your dog if you make a few mistakes at first. As for being a trainer, IMO you should first train your own dog (it's valuable experience and it's free, plus you'll find out if you enjoy dog training before enrolling in an expensive course). If you still want to be a trainer, then consider enrolling in a dog trainers course with NDFT, as the others have suggested. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Im glad i found this site so i can lean on u all for advice.(I HOPE) I do have a 15yr old staffy x bitch who i trained ok as a novice..My family think shes great however i c ssssooooooo many issues with her...however i am lacking in the area of STOPPING a dog from doing things it shouldnt..if u get what i mean??? Joan of Arc Posted July 8, 2007 Share Posted July 8, 2007 We had frineds who ignored out advice and went to Bark Busters to train thier ACD pup. Not sure how long they went for but when we visited after the training was 'complete' the dog still misbehaved, wet in the house, and was disobedient to teh max. Just happened that there were about 30 ppl there making lots of noise and dropping things etc and I noticed the dog didn't flinch. At first thougth he was well socialised but watched all evening, never came when he was called etc. Suggested friends visit the vet and guess what?
