We used to have a Lori that would call out to our older english stafford Hello Bernie (Dogs name) when he saw him (and it wasnt Birdie, it was clearly hello Bernie and the bird would only say it when the dog walked into the room) As soon as Bernie got to close to his cage he would chase him off again, then start the game over, calling hello Bernie over and over again till he came back to the cage Bernie would play along for 1/2hr until he got so sick of Lori's torments that he would storm off and go sit by the front door, as far away from Lori as possible! Thanks Kirislin Its a Dusky Lorie, they come in Red Tone and Yellow Tone they are here in Australia but from New Guinea Scientific Name: Pseudeos fuscata ( should be Pseudo Frustratis! as they are bloody frustrating! He says I shit! every times he poops!) and screams to come in the house, takes the dog food, eats all and sundry and bosses everyone about! Sub Species in country / area of origin: None, but has two colour phases - yellow and red. Origin / Distribution: New Guinea and some islands. Habitat In Wild: Possibly nomadic, occupying diverse habitats including plantations and urban areas. Status In Wild: Secure Status In (Australian) Captivity: Rare, but numbers are increasing. Age To Sexual Maturity: ? Lifespan (estimate): approx. 20 or more years Sexing: Monomorphic / Dimorphic Surgical or DNA sexing may be required. Mutations: None Availability: Rare, but numbers are increasing. Temperament: Can be very noisy birds. May disturb and annoy nearby neighbours. Cost (Victoria) Per Pair: - Normal colour (Approx.) $3000 Description Of Adults: Length: Approx. 250 mm (or approx. 10 inches) Colour ( "normal" colour ): Refer photo above.
