Winter Coat

Hi everyone,

This will be the first winter that we'll be facing with our baby Pomeranian. So we wanted to be prepared.

Is a plain rain coat is enough since he has a lot of fur or should we be investing in a coat that is both waterproof and warm?

Please also advise us which brand to get.

Why do you need a coat for a Pom?

Since a Pom has a thick coat I don't believe he would need one.

A young healthy Pom with its double spitz coat should not need a coat unless you want a shower proof coat for walking in the rain or toileting outside when it is wet.

I am also confused as to why a Pom would need an extra coat. And from what I have seen their coats are very similar to a Lappies and ours can go outside in the rain and not get soaked unless they are out for quite a while... so a quick towel off if they go outside to toilet means they are pretty well dry again One of the advantages of the harsh outer coat

Agreed- unless you are planning on going for long walks in the rain - your dog should not need a coat he will be quite woolly enough - and may even get too hot being indoors with heating on!

Just wanted to know for the snow and cold winter morning/evening walks that may rain on us...a rain proof coat will do him fine then

Aww, but for the fashion conscious pom a little coat might look very dapper

Tell that to my Whippets! They are convinced if they get wet they will turn into Iggy's - and that is With a coat on!!
