Looking around for some resources to help me with tugging with my dog and I came across some DVDs from Leerburg which look great, wondering whether others have seen them/what do they think/any other DVDs on motivation/rewarding/playing/tugging with your dog

The Power of Playing Tug With Your Dog

Also found this one on motivation which I think would be useful in helping to master some of the mechanics which I know I need help with

Advanced Concepts in Motivation

I have The Power of Playing Tug With Your Dog and can recommend it  .

I think I'm still new to the whole training in drive thing (2 yrs) and I find Michael Ellis very easy to understand. I don't have the the Advanced Concepts of Motivation (it's new isn't it?) but would love to know what others think of it :)

ETA Michael Ellis often uses demonstrators who don't tug correctly and I find I learn a lot more that way than only using the perfect domonstrators - I also want to learn what NOT to do ;)

Mainly I want to learn how I can be more fun for the dog, and make interaction with me more fun as a reward. The previews I have watched on YouTube look really good with just the kind of information I am looking for. It is going to take more than watching my dog, or I would have figured it out already

I don't get why you wouldn't just watch and learn from your dog. They know better than anyone else what is fun for them. I love the process of discovering things they love with them.

I don't get what is wrong with someone wanting to learn more about how to have fun with their dogs? That sort of thing doesn't come naturally to many people. What an odd thing to say.

I have both, highly recommend them! The only negativeb thing IMO is that they go on for so bloody long! (around 4 hours each)

If you buy the hard copy of the DVD you will also get access to the video online so can watch it straight away.

Some free stuff here too http://leerburg.com/flix/category.php?categoryid=10

You do my head in. Just freaking teach it to him like a behaviour already! I don't get why you won't try that, either!

For me, adding some solid operant conditioning just took the pressure off. If we have a miss, that's fine, because I can rally with something he's had rewarded in the past and he still has a lot of fun and quickly gets back into the spirit of it and I learn without creating any setbacks. I think he's a whole lot more resilient and tolerant to bumpy moments than he was before I added OC, and typically much more likely to be up for a game. That is extremely helpful in the long run. Erik doesn't really have bumpy moments. :p Also extremely helpful!

But I daresay general guidance from someone who has tugged with a lot of dogs is helpful as well. :) Info is often good! :D Sorry, I didn't mean to take your thread off topic. Just kinda fascinated. :p Had a similar discussion about on leash greetings recently. I was like "Why have arbitrary rules for greeting that don't actually match what the dog does or doesn't want to do? Just let them tell you whether they do or don't want to greet and take it from there." I think that one made me incomprehensible to everyone else.

Awesome SecretKei! Yeah they are long - the tug one is over 5 hrs

Yeah but it's split into 2 DVD's for 'easy' viewing  . I love Michael Ellis, but I can't get through any of his DVD's in one sitting!

I hear that Ivan Balabanov's Training without conflict series is very good too.

I have most of the Michael Ellis DVDs from Leerburg and highly recommend them. Yes they are long, but I like that as they give you so much information. I've ordered the new Advanced Motivation one and have watched a little bit of the streaming version - looks up to Michael's usual standard. His info is easy to understand and he's also easy to listen to - unlike some others I've watched.
