More photos beshish!!! Maybe later this week. Good weights there, how are they going with the rotating feeding or are you helping with that ?? She has so much milk that so far we have not needed to do anything. They are all good feeders and even the littlest two are gaining in leaps and bounds. underfoot Posted February 22, 2012 Share Posted February 22, 2012 On the topic of boobies again. Willow has 8. She has had 5 girls in this litter, 3 of them have 8 and 2 of them have 9. Sires mum has 10. Some interesting food for thought. Oh I made a bo bo on the colours as well. Now they are older I can see we have 8 livers (9 if you include the stillborn) and 5 blacks of which there are NO black bitches (of course that is what I wanted) to show as one is patched and one has a curl (kinked) tail. Sayly Posted February 23, 2012 Share Posted February 23, 2012 (edited) Good news and bad news here. Introducing Ruby's one and only. Ultrasound showed one strong heartbeat and one weak heartbeat, and couldn't see any others well enough to tell, so the decision was made with the repro specialist to have a caesarean. So this arvo at around 3pm this little fighter, and 5 dead pups in various stages of breaking down were brought into the world, exactly the same as last time except this time we managed to save the one fighter. So far she's going well, strong as, wiggling around and sucking away, but she's only 158grams, so we shall see how she goes. Ruby is ok, she's not sure what to do with the baby so lots of work for Mum and I at the moment. We really hope this little mite makes it through. Not sure what caused it LP but it was exactly the same as last time, we just got the survivor out before it died too. Very happy to at least have her, we just hope she's strong enough to make it. We had samples from Ruby and the dead pups sent off for analysis so maybe we will get some answers. We have Impact and Wombaroo here, not sure if it is worth giving her some. She's got a strong sucking reflex and Ruby has some milk/colostrum when we squeez her nipples, but the baby seems to suckle for a long time and I don't think she's getting much. I don't want her to get weak but I don't want to supplement, I would rather have the stimulation on Ruby to help it come in. Any thoughts? She's only 154 grams after a nice big poop and this is our first litter, so we are a bit nervous, especially with all the issues already. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
leopuppy04 Posted February 23, 2012 Share Posted February 23, 2012 From my experience (very limited as you know!) I would let the pup tell you. If she's unsettled and not thriving then I would supplement. One thing I've noticed as a stark difference with this litter being Kinta's 2nd is that the milk came through early and while the pups fed a lot, they are the most contented puppies around and I think it's because they have constantly full bellies. The last litter was a little more noisy especially in the first day because the milk hadn't come down yet. I'd supplement if need be - especially coz she's only a little 'un. I'd assume you would only need to for a day or so as Ruby's body was preparing for 6 kids, so her milk will come through soon enough. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ruby's breeder came over today to see the bub and how we were going, and she said she would top her up as she didn't feel like Ruby had a lot of milk yet, but place her on Ruby before we supp feed. She was happy with how the pup was going, said she looked and seemed strong and well hydrated, she's just small. Ruby is now reluctant to leave the room and is happily letting her feed now. Did they give her any antibiotics? I am just asking as since the other whelps were starting to break down, there may be some infection. She looks like she has good sucking reflex going. She doesn't like the front two nipples, the other 6 all seem fair game but she does stay on the caudal ones longer each time.
