it’s a shame. The breed was created to be a very stable animal.

wrong kind of people are ruining it by introducing aggressive dogs to their breeding.

banning it drives it underground and it continues in that direction. Great shame.

Dog related deaths includes dog strike (knocked over by a dog?)

Majority of fatalities occur in the home.

[3 per year average.

1 per year from lightning strike, 3 after falling from a tree, 1548 from car accidents]

The authors state that circumstances leading up to the incident were not available and so cannot lead to information about prevention.

I've read in other reports that most fatalities involve dogs above a certain weight and are young children or elderly.

This is an old news story but I think it illustrates how complex and unexpected the causation of dog attacks can be.

IMO it's a cross breed, not a breed, and the reasons for the cross are not to be encouraged.  Oodles are bad enough. Modern society doesn't need extra large cross breeds that look frightening...some sweet,  some definitely not sweet...and all the disputes that go along with deciding, after fatal attacks, which dogs should be classified as dangerous and put under heavy restrictions

Aggressive dogs and criminals have been fraternising for a long time. More likely the dogs are not desexed or properly socialised because "we don't want him to be friendly" - actual quote from puppy owner who I tried to educate.

Its worrisome what is happening to the malinois breed. There seems to be an increase in facebook posts by breeding kennels emphasising their dog's attacking capability given they are marketing to security, military & police. I fear it is only a matter of time before there is a 'leakage' of aggresive dogs to the general public, just as there has been with 'game-bred' APBTs.

Already happening in "bite sport" dogs. I refuse to call it "protection" or "character work". If you breed a dog that is happy to bite to another dog that is happy to bite you get dogs that are even happier to bite, and I know of one who attacked her puppies and permanently injured one.

Some kennels/businesses/enthusiasts are very military and violent in their posts, imagery and music. One overseas video summary of the "sport" had a violent and expletive riddled gangsta rap music soundtrack.

 

I don't understand why UDX is not enough of a challenge, or why people need their dogs to fight their battles for them.
