It’s an annoying thing to hear but I’d go back to the vet. Sometimes it can be a process of deduction where we try first line interventions then move on to the next thing. When we just try tips and tricks that others have found helpful, we can end up spending a lot of money on things that were never going to help or have much of an impact, only to end up in the same place of needing more veterinary work ups and treatment. Meanwhile the dog is suffering… and humans also annoyed by the constant scratching!

Vent away. Yes you are entitled to be disappointed. Can you get any sort of refund, no idea. Beauty is as beauty does. I have Greyhounds, have bred them and shown them. Same ears as whippets. But my adopted retired race dog, nope, not only does she have prick ears but also a Roman nose. Though at least I knew what she was as soon as I saw her. As your disappointment eases you'll see what you have. A wonderful friend and pet for your family, and the ears will grow on you ❤️

There's stacks of free chipping days around Sydney, but people don't take it up. I believe many fear the steep rego bills that come in afterwards. Particularly if their pet is entire. Once the unchipped pet is roaming and picked up, the fees for impound reclaim are even higher. So the pounds are chock full of med-lge breeds that people got cheap or free, didn't vetwork, possibly bred from and aren't reclaiming. It's awful. Or the chip is blank. Or it leads to someone who says they gave their pet away and don't remember who to. ---- At this point I would insert rolly-eye emoji if we still had one. -

ah so the idea is to track black market puppy farmers????? hullo what part of the majority of dogs impounded ARE NOT MICROCHIPPED will they ever realise? how can they "track" un chipped dogs or cats? when two of my puppies were stolen years ago. unknown to the thief both were already vaccinated and chipped. one i got back within days, found wandering a six lane highway. rescued and scanned by a local vet. the second I spotted advertise for sale on gumtree. the lady had bought her from an online sale site, she was told she was neither vaccinated nor chipped. considering she paid 500 for a pup normally worth over 2500 she bought her. the reason she was advertised 5 months later she was being transferred back to japan. (I recognised my puppy Fire, because of her unusual markings.... the disturbing part was this lady had not taken her to a vet to be vaccinated or microchipped because she considered she didn't need to be as she lived in an apartment and could not get lost.... She sure got a shock when I ran the scanner over her and showed her the chip no. think on that. how many are the same? well the figures for all the unchipped dogs turning up at the pounds shows a vast number of people dont care a fig about microchipping and probably vaccination either how many DECADES has it been law now??????????? -

EXACTLY Its one country, ONE DATA BASE but then pollies have not given us a lot of confidence about their intelligence except when it comes to taking good care of themselves the latest decision to tax super. so much for having already paid your tax. now in additions they are intended to tax any increase in value of your land, in the case of farmland farmers could be facing over $100,000 in tax, based solely on how much the value of the family farm has risen the previous tax year????? they will be taxed on the value its risen? yet they have in fact made nothing from that. unless the sell the property??? so farms been in the family for generations will have to be sold to pay the extra tax, that's the only way it can be paid since the west is in such drought stock are being sold for next to nothing as they cant feed them anymore. so no income to pay tax on but now have to pay tax on paper value???? so the corporations can buy for a song, overseas companies can buy for a song and of course our farmland is gone from the families on the land to corporations who of course our pollie's are happy that they pay no tax because our pollies drafted the laws so they and their accountants dont pay tax do they? either be HUGE, preferably foreign owned or they will tax you into homelessness what a great nation australia is not.... anymore . -
I'd try the slow cooked Prime 100 SPD Wild Boar and some probiotics like Synbiotic D-C which is just a plain powder, no added flavours. Both available online. And a request that the vet try the new month-long ear med. (it's not twice daily drops. It is squirted right down the ear canal and stays there). Plucking the ear hair if there is any, is usually recommended also. We make sure the underside of their floppy ears, is clippered extra short to allow better airflow. Allergies effecting the skin/ears make yeast and then bacteria. I'm guessing you already know that having had dogs!
-
Have the ears been examined for hair, inflammation, infection or poor anatomy? The ear itching may not be related to the allergies.

has she tried venison or kangaroo, rabbit or fish ?

Hi All This little girl has allergies to beef, lamb and chicken. Yes, she's been to the vets. The owner is trying out the Lyka meals in hope they will reduce the ear itching. I'm no longer up to date on all of this kind of thing, so what would your suggestion be? Thank you

I purchased a puppy who is now 6 months old. She is not conforming to breed standards, she is a whippet and should have rose bud shaped ears but instead her ears prick up. This is shame as she has deviated away from the general whippet look which I desire. I paid top dollars for this pup so a heavy price. I've contacted the breeder who is happy to refund me but that would mean that I would have to tear her away from my children who love her dearly. Yes I hear you all saying isn't that most important part well yes of course it is but still I can't hide my disappointment. I did ask the seller to partially refund me to which she said no. The breeder did mention that unfortunately her sister is the same which makes me think that its a genetic trait. I don't know I'm just venting and frustrated and wondered if anyone else has had this happen?

I would go to the Local Court and lodge a Letter of Demand.for the deposit. I'm not sure about legal procedures in ACT but you can definitely lodge a Letter of Demand in NSW. Maybe check with your Local Court.

The State bodies wont get involved as this is a personal issue at present . Just go to small claims or the relevant body in your state . If you paid a deposit you should have the contract listing the deposit guidelines & the what ifs . If you have in messenger the aspect of refunding copy that . If they have a website that outlines the process copy that . Also read up what the deposit law is in your State & when the item has not become available in the appropriate time . We never took deposits although some breeders do as its like a form of income ,have 1o deposits of $500 you have a nice income happening . It also blows my mind that people hand over money like this on something thats not even born, vet checked or even appropriate for there home without a question

This is what happens when proper research into exactly what they want the database to do is not done before declaring they are building one. There are other state registries (databases) that are functioning "reasonably" well in this sector, so why couldn't they look at modelling based on one of those? It's not actually rocket science, but there are some small intricacies that need sorting out before attempting to build such a database from scratch. Quite frankly, I think that a national registry/database is needed rather than different states all doing different things in this sphere - and none of them talk to each other. T. -
Sydney Councils Pushing for Harsher Penalties After Decline in Pet Etiquette

This is reported as coming from Randwick council. The actual figures, which took me 5 minutes to find and fact check, are... 65 attacks reported for the whole year of 2024 in Randwick LGA - and 5091 for ALL reported attacks in the whole state of NSW for the year 2024. The stats are published by quarter on the OLG website for anyone to find btw. So, 65 attacks (also broken down into attacks on humans or other animals) recorded in an LGA with 26,254 dogs microchipped as living in that LGA, doesn't seem like a massive statistic to use to claim that there seems to be a chronic issue, does it? Maybe the fact that the current fines don't actually cover the man hours spent chasing up the reports of attacks might be more to the point? The other fact that most LGA's haven't got the staff to functionally enforce the laws couldn't be an issue either, could it? Interestingly, the Randwick stats actually show a decline over the 2024 year for the number of reports made. Jan-March was 19, Apr-Jun was 18, Jul-Sep was 17, and Oct-Dec was 11... which doesn't really gel with what the article is inferring, right? As for the total NSW attack figure of 5091, when you break it down as a proportion of the total number of microchipped dogs (and this doesn't factor the numbers of non-microchipped dogs) in the state which is 3,094,312 (as at Dec 2024) - the numbers, while not great, are still a very small percentage, yes? Just remember, there are lies, damned lies, and statistics... all of which seem to be apparent in this article. Check the stats for yourself here... https://olg.nsw.gov.au/public/dogs-cats/responsible-pet-ownership/pound-and-dog-attack-statistics/ T. -
