I've rescued a few young ones who just struggle to keep weight on, and stress me out completely. I know there's nothing wrong, it's just the way they are. Takes time. 18months seems to be where their metabolism settles but it seems to be individual also. I like the look of your diet. No reason not to add a bit of Rebanne's porridge.

No idea if this works...I tend to need to slim down fatties. But if there's a real butcher anywhere near, you might ask about fatty offcuts. I've often had to trim off and dispose of fat from chooks frames and brisket bones, and sometimes when I am at our local butcher I see guys in the background trimming off fat.

Nothing wrong with porridge. Proper rolled oats is, imo, a whole food. Just feed him this over winter. Or get supercoat puppy for him. Or just up his normal foods by 1/3.

I have had this happen with adolescent sighthounds.There is nothing wrong with having a greyhound or sighthound build! If he is very active he may just have a marathon runner's physique, very lean, or his hormones are not doing him any favours. If he is otherwise healthy (and not losing weight) I wouldn't worry and wouldn't add anything except perhaps carefully add some extra oil, or feed another small balanced meal.

I have 3 border collies...14 years, 6 years & almost 1. They all get the same food with the puppy getting a bit more plus training treats. Currently they are on Supercoat Adult, plus eggs, fresh (frozen) sardines, yogurt, chicken wings or drumsticks, & fish oil The two older dogs do well on this, so much so that I have to watch that they don't gain too much weight. The old boy is going well for his age & the six year old is very active. However, the puppy (1 yr old) struggles to gain weight. He is very active & growing tall (his front legs come right up to his chin lol, & his back legs are so long, that when he sits, he sits like a frog. He weighs 19 kilo & so far not desexed. I can feel his ribs & his backbone really easy, & I feel he is quite skinny... a bit like a greyhound with long hair. Am I worried about nothing & he is just having a growing spurt?? Or is there something I could feed him , apart from 100% raw (as we are camping & have limited freezer space). I know I could feed him things like porridge, but would prefer it to be a whole food. Looking for recommendations please that is readily available in our local pet stores

Compulsory superannuation was guided by accountants who were given the remit to legally minimise your tax. There is no nefarious purpose in people transferring or buying assets for their super fund. The Government said we had to have super and the people invested in their super fund. For many on the land the assets that they placed in their super fund was the family farm because this is what they were advised to do by their accountant and their accountant had no knowledge aforethought that this would be a very bad idea. But the nasty bitey bit is coming now thanks to the Labor Party. Many farms, if they can provide a living for the family, are worth vastly in excess of $3 million. But farms are like a third parent. With most family farms there is no intention of selling them, in fact it is looked on as failure or treachery if a family member sells the farm out of the family. Once a family farm is sold it can never be bought back. As the globe is not creating more farming country and as the population of the globe races towards eight billion people that can’t properly feed themselves, the value of land and farm produce is going up. In fact, farm land has been appreciating at around 18% per year. This is just a figure on the books because there is no intention of selling the asset, however the Labor Party is going to tax Australians 30% on the increase on the book value of an asset even though it hasn’t been sold. So, let’s go through the figures. $5 million for a farm that can support a family is not unreasonable at all, in fact it might be a bit light-on. Now, if this farm is in the super fund then an 18% increase would mean an unrealised capital gain of $900,000. If $900,000 is taxed at 30% that is $270,000 that family has to find to pay Dr Jim Chalmers. If a farm worth $5 million could make a $270,000 profit they would be genius farmers. Not only is it one-off, it could be every year including droughts. As corporate farming buys out family farms and overseas buyers buy out Australians without any government wanting to do very much about it, family farms are going to be pushed further into the history books of Australia. As farms become bigger the number of people supplying the market for your food becomes smaller and inevitably makes the price of food larger. This combines with a bat poo crazy idea of Net Zero emissions by 2050 and further restrictions on how farmers operate their farms to placate the great god Gaia and his environmental policies which exacerbates the cost of food you see in shops today. Its a bloody mess added to that is take details to council to log and get told "we dont do it any more, you have to go into the pet registry yourself and do it" then try and cant get in. they have created a new one and the program or whatever it is, is a nightmare to negotiate. OK - I spoke to another friend who is an implanter, and they still have access to enter the details of the dogs they chip directly to the database, so whatever the issue is with new owners being unable to access their pet's details is not related to that, unless vet clinics who chip dogs/cats are being slack at entering those details because they are too bloody busy with everything else they do in any given day. Most likely it's when the change of ownership information is required to be entered into the database that there is some sort of delay, but I'm pretty sure that vet clinics aren't responsible for that stage of the identification process, so whatever excuse is being given for the PetRegistry portal not working as planned is probably just made up to deflect attention from the fact that the stupid thing doesn't work because they are constantly having to change how it works every time government makes legislative changes. Hey @asalI heard that there have been changes made to the NSW microchip online registry whereas licensed implanters can no longer directly input the animal's details to the chip registry in NSW via the online process? I was told that this is now supposed to only be done by local councils or vets. Is this true? As an implanter, can you still access the NSW online registry to enter details for newly chipped animals, or do you have to send paperwork or an online form off for someone else to enter those details? I was told the above during a conversation about issues with new owners not being able to register their pet via the NSW online PetRegistry portal, as there is a backlog of details having not been entered by vets or councils in a timely manner. I'm thinking that it would be stupid to remove the ability for implanters to immediately enter animal details at the time of chipping, and that the backlog most likely pertains to the change of ownership form details not being entered in a timely manner when that pet is transfered to the new owner... is that more likely the case here? T.

I’m not a breeder but I’ve spent my life around the “dog world”. I’ve had three puppies come home with health problems and spent thousands of dollars treating those problems. I didn’t ask for refunds or help with vet expenses, although I was relieved to get a refund for the puppy that died of congenital kidney disease. Actually, thinking back, I was too distraught at the time to be relieved about anything, but I was thankful later. The breed standard is someone’s ideal of perfection. Most dogs, not being machines off a production line, are not perfect. That’s why breeders spend decades striving for that breed-standard-perfect puppy. Ears often don’t align with breed standards and semi-prick ears are particularly problematic. They shouldn’t be up, they shouldn’t be down, they should fold the right way and they should stay that way all the time. Im gathering you didnt tape the ears whilst teething ?? Have you tried taping the ears now ?? Where they rose bud as a baby . Are you rubbing them upwards ?? Greyhounds,Whippets many breeds get funny ears whilst teething & we will assist them during the process . And many breeders have ended up in breeds with ears that just dont tick the plan they wished for .it comes under Sh&t Happens & many thousands of dollars spent ,your investment a very small amount & if you wanted perfect & statue would have been cheaper . Yes i get your disappointed but seriously this is a living creature that thinks your its humans & you are p*ssed & want compensation for ears that at 6 months with effort may sit folded . Good things about dogs is they dont judge humans in the same way And yes just like a human you may think your a super model good looking human & have children not getting the same good looks ,the world doesnt end nor are you going to offload your kids . As a breeder no way would i partially refund for prick ears The breeder has offered you a full refund on return of the pup which is how it works in consumer law .

I agree but tips and tricks are what you'll get from dog owners PK, and is pretty much why people ask on Dol about any dog topic. Everyone likes to gather information here and there from other dog owners. Saying that, we've no idea if the vet has been the one to suggest a change of diet or if everything has been tried for treating the ears.

It’s an annoying thing to hear but I’d go back to the vet. Sometimes it can be a process of deduction where we try first line interventions then move on to the next thing. When we just try tips and tricks that others have found helpful, we can end up spending a lot of money on things that were never going to help or have much of an impact, only to end up in the same place of needing more veterinary work ups and treatment. Meanwhile the dog is suffering… and humans also annoyed by the constant scratching!

Vent away. Yes you are entitled to be disappointed. Can you get any sort of refund, no idea. Beauty is as beauty does. I have Greyhounds, have bred them and shown them. Same ears as whippets. But my adopted retired race dog, nope, not only does she have prick ears but also a Roman nose. Though at least I knew what she was as soon as I saw her. As your disappointment eases you'll see what you have. A wonderful friend and pet for your family, and the ears will grow on you ❤️

There's stacks of free chipping days around Sydney, but people don't take it up. I believe many fear the steep rego bills that come in afterwards. Particularly if their pet is entire. Once the unchipped pet is roaming and picked up, the fees for impound reclaim are even higher. So the pounds are chock full of med-lge breeds that people got cheap or free, didn't vetwork, possibly bred from and aren't reclaiming. It's awful. Or the chip is blank. Or it leads to someone who says they gave their pet away and don't remember who to. ---- At this point I would insert rolly-eye emoji if we still had one.

ah so the idea is to track black market puppy farmers????? hullo what part of the majority of dogs impounded ARE NOT MICROCHIPPED will they ever realise? how can they "track" un chipped dogs or cats? when two of my puppies were stolen years ago. unknown to the thief both were already vaccinated and chipped. one i got back within days, found wandering a six lane highway. rescued and scanned by a local vet. the second I spotted advertise for sale on gumtree. the lady had bought her from an online sale site, she was told she was neither vaccinated nor chipped. considering she paid 500 for a pup normally worth over 2500 she bought her. the reason she was advertised 5 months later she was being transferred back to japan. (I recognised my puppy Fire, because of her unusual markings.... the disturbing part was this lady had not taken her to a vet to be vaccinated or microchipped because she considered she didn't need to be as she lived in an apartment and could not get lost.... She sure got a shock when I ran the scanner over her and showed her the chip no. think on that. how many are the same? well the figures for all the unchipped dogs turning up at the pounds shows a vast number of people dont care a fig about microchipping and probably vaccination either how many DECADES has it been law now???????????

I'd try the slow cooked Prime 100 SPD Wild Boar and some probiotics like Synbiotic D-C which is just a plain powder, no added flavours. Both available online. And a request that the vet try the new month-long ear med. (it's not twice daily drops. It is squirted right down the ear canal and stays there). Plucking the ear hair if there is any, is usually recommended also. We make sure the underside of their floppy ears, is clippered extra short to allow better airflow. Allergies effecting the skin/ears make yeast and then bacteria. I'm guessing you already know that having had dogs!
