  5. http://www.premier.vic.gov.au/newsroom/9200.html COMMUNITY VIEWS SOUGHT IN BID TO STAMP OUT DOG ATTACKS From the Minister for Agriculture Friday, 15 January 2010 The Brumby Labor Government will seek the views of the community as it prepares to introduce legislation to toughen laws around dangerous dogs. Visiting the Nillumbik Regional Pound today, Agriculture Minister Joe Helper said the Government was launching an online survey to ensure any proposed dangerous dogs legislation meets community expectations. “The Brumby Labor Government understands the community wants a tough stance to reduce dog attacks and that’s why we are making changes to the laws around dangerous dogs,” Mr Helper said. “We have taken action to toughen legislation in recent years but clearly the message needs to be reinforced that owning a dog is an important responsibility that comes with conditions. “In 2005, the Government introduced laws to stop the breeding of dangerous and restricted breed dogs, including pit bulls. We also doubled the penalties for irresponsible dog owners in 2007. “But we have seen an unacceptable number of dog attacks in the community in the last 12 months. There are too many people flouting existing laws by not registering their dogs, or not ensuring dangerous dogs are suitably restrained. “To those people we say the net is closing in and their irresponsible behaviour will simply not be tolerated.” Mr Helper said the new laws would further toughen penalties but also give local councils more powers in dealing with unregistered and dangerous dogs. “Proposed changes to the legislation would remove the right of appeal for owners and allow council officers more time to focus on the job of keeping dangerous dogs off Victorian streets,” Mr Helper said. “We need to give councils greater power so they can operate more effectively in stopping dangerous dog attacks. “The survey launched today asks important questions of the community such as whether they feel councils should be able to immediately seize and destroy unregistered dangerous dogs found at large.” Other survey questions include: • If a stray dog is suspected by a council officer to be a danger to the public by virtue of its size, breed or disposition and it is also not registered – should councils have the power to immediately seize and destroy the dog? • If a dog has already been declared a “dangerous dog” by a council and it is found at large should councils be able to seize it and immediately destroy it? • Should there be a penalty for possession of an unregistered dog and what should that penalty be? • Should medical practitioners or hospitals be required to report any dog bites to the Government Chief Medical Officer or the Police or Councils? • Should restricted breed (such as pit bull) owners be able to keep their animal only if its de-sexed and muzzled when off the property and registered or should they all be destroyed? The Government is planning to introduce its dangerous dog legislation into Parliament later in 2010. Mr Helper said the survey would be available by visiting www.dpi.vic.gov.au and would be open until Monday, 15 February, 2010. tybrax

  7. Sounds like my sons they are heavily tattooed, wear dark glasses, bald heads, pants down there ankles. But they do walk there dogs on a lead!!! Why stereotype?????? tybrax
  8. Hi Bully, I cannot say for sure in this case but as I have mentioned on other posts, when they set BSL, some areas included "Pit Type Breeds". Their thought was that Am Staffs were included in this "Pit Type Breed" (QLD was one of those places) How often do you see debates on whether Am Staff is actually a pitbull? Thousands of Am Staffs have been PTS as they have been regarded as pits. Thank heavens this guy has been in a position to fight for the rights of the Am Staff. I know all about BSL and the Amstaff/Pitbull same breed argument. I was questioning why if there is proof that Tangos parents are in fact Amstaffs, which are not a banned breed here, why is this still an ongoing court case. I think John has done an amazing job of making the average joe blow aware of BSL and the repercussions of owning a "bull breed" in this day and age!! Because the evidence will be submitted to the Supreme Court in March 2010. tybrax
  9. Hi Tybrax, Where did you get the Restricted sign? I have never seen one, although I haven't ever really looked. When I was going through my divorce a few years ago, my ex bought a sign that read ""Forget about the bloody dog. Beware of the wife"" It had a pic of a little dog looking on dumbfounded, as some mad woman with her hair in curlers attacked some poor guy. I thought it was cute so I hung it at the front door. Someone stole it so I guessed there was another guy getting divorced in need of it..LOL Hi Nanna's Gold Coast City Council give you the signs which have to be displayed. The mat at the front door states "BEWARE OF THE OWNER NOT THE DOG" tybrax
  10. My sign states Restricted dog.. The house down the road states Dangerous dog declared by GCCC. tybrax
  11. Tosa Inu, BoearBoel, Presa, Fila, Dogo, Cane Corso, Kangal, Bully Kutta, Dosa Inu, Caucasian Ovcharka, Central Asia Shepherd Dog , They all are suitable for the average family. What we need is more dogs like these recommded to familys, especially in the suburbs. As nanny dogs, kids playmates, etcc every household needs one of them because they are so easy to take care of and handle and no experience necessary. You state these dogs are easier have you ever owned one??? Nope you own APBT's/AST it took you 2 years to edited your posts and remove American. Why????? tybrax
  12. Thanks Rottnbullies l know who this is :D ;) He also know APBTS pedigrees back to front and has owned them tybrax
  13. Here the video of Ellen and Snorky. So gorgeous. http://ellen.warnerbros.com/2009/12/the_am..._p.php#comments
  14. Great Tybrax, PM me when you overturn the BSL. Sarcasm at its best l suppose. Where did l say l was going to overturn BSL?????
  15. No denial. No debate needed. I have stated in previous posts that they have to be watched with strange dogs and other animals. Their are exceptions, but mostly that is the rule with the APBT and AmStaff and to a lesser extent the SBT. So what? I'm surprised you haven't picked on my beloved Rotties. Did you know they rank consistantly high up in the attack per capita lists. Higher than Pit Bulls. But then so do many other breeds. Like I said no denial here. WHAT SORT OF BREED DO YOU OWN??? Be honest and up front. What annoys me with the majority of APBT owners and supporters is the rose coloured glasses they wear for the breed which is denial, no question or debate. I love GSD's which can also be bloody dangerous dogs in the wrong hands without effective training and are not nice gentle souls that love everyone, like the APBT brigade try and lead everyone to believe with their breed of choice. Of course with a well bred APBT, well trained and owned by responsible people there will be some terrific dogs and trustworthy family pets that don't deserve to be effected by BSL, but there are also some horrible examples of the breed out there attractive to people who want to own a dangerous dog and choose the APBT for the wrong reasons to contend with too. I don't like hearing of GSD attacks either, but in the wrong hands for the wrong reasons, they can be very dangerous, but seriously, if the desire is to get anywhere with the APBT and BSL, a charade of how wonderful the breed is and how out of character it is for a fighting dog to fight etc etc, is really a stupid argument. The "TRUTH" along with open education about the breed would have in my opinion a greater chance of being addressed in a manner of some credability. The GSD was once a banned breed and their supporters got off their bums and promoted the breed heavily in a favourable light with patience and dedication to lift the ban sucessfully. The APBT supporters could do the same if they had the motivation to do so???. No one is in denial, what's with the rose coloured glasses thats just a joke. As for fighting BSL its all going good maybe you should take some time to read my posts and website .. Any breed can be dangerous in the wrong hands."ANY BREED'' tybrax
  16. What are we in denial about please clarify? tybrax
