What's The Most Ridiculous Thing Your Dog's Been Called?
JulesP replied to ~Rumour~'s topic in General Dog Discussion
My sable border collie gets lots of interesting comments. I decided that she looked like a corgi in this photo though -
Congrats on the new edition, she is very cute. I have been looking at the Borderton borders lately after a very cute puppy popped up on one of my US facebook friend's page. I have to say that I found 4 dogs easier then 3 as well.

Should Groomers Be Licensed? Qualified?
JulesP replied to Danielle's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
A heap of times I found it is the owners that want the dogs to look horrible. Or want weird things. They want the ears a certain length or want poodle feet on a maltese. Thinking about it I didn't have one purebred dog that needed a breed clip doing. I had a couple of pet poodles but the majority were all SWF. -
Should Groomers Be Licensed? Qualified?

One of the few people I didn't get back was a schnauzer owner. It had big balls of matting on its legs etc. Even when I showed the owner she still wanted it done in a breed clip. Just wasn't possible with the condition of the dog. I'm sure she would have told the next groomer about the idiot that shaved her dog. I did have to do a heap of shaving. It was not pleasant. -

Should Groomers Be Licensed? Qualified?

I did mobile grooming with no qualifications Pretty much everyone rebooked me so I assume they were happy with the job I did. Got heaps of clients from the local qualified salon. Dogs tend to like me so owners were happy to see their dogs happy to see me. It wasn't my intention to do a heap of clipping. I thought I would be mainly washing but that wasn't how it turned out. I got a heap of Oster videos and a book. I had been clipping my show horses for years so was quite good with the clippers. I would have loved to do a course but couldn't find anything I wanted to do. I was a member of a US grooming forum and got a heap of support on there. Never really got too many 'breeds' to do. Most were white fluffies that got done in a teddy bear clip. Another thing that I think was important was the ability to listen to the customer and do what they wanted. Even if I thought it was dumb As in ear length etc. Any way I think it is a bastard of a job and I am still so traumatized 6 years later that my poor border collies hardly get brushed -
Obviously the Staffie standard needs to change. It either needs to disallow blues or the nose criteria needs to change. That it is currently in conflict is stupid.

No aircon here! The dogs are out all the time and still sunbake.
-
My borders sunbake too Vickie. I can only assume that it feels nice.
-
I feel this way, too. It's kind of like: "Make sure you buy from a registered breeder – oh and make sure that breeder meets with the approval of x% of the dogzonline forum … ;)" :)

While you are at Bunnings have a look at the sheets of weld mesh. They are heaps bigger then the compost panels. Bunnings are also selling pool fencing for $80 a piece, pup might be able to get through the rails of that though. My Bunnings is also selling/renting temporary fencing.

You asked were it came from. I answered.

This would suggest that the OP did intend to say something about the puppy if her fears were backed up here.

I wonder what the stupid woman pays at the hairdressers? grrrrrrrrr

Do You Look At The Marketplace Page On Dol?
JulesP replied to wherezaball's topic in General Dog Discussion
I do look in there if I am after doggie stuff. It is important to support the advertisers who keep the site running. -
Lol Seita! I have actually quit for a while as I have lost my tolerance and would have been saying it out loud. I did find myself covering my face a fair bit and sighing.
-
Oh, absolutely! But I didn't think it was rocket science - good to see how it can be done badly because most of the people I talk to online or at trials use it correctly. I hang out with good trainers 4 years of training beginners class and I know exactly how interestingly people can interrupt something. Some days I just want to say "WTF are you doing?"

I'm Running Out Of Ideas On What To Offer!
JulesP replied to Kirra_Bomber_Zeus's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I hate the sniffing and walking away. Grrrrr. Amber sniffs and then trots behind me to check out what the other dogs are getting and then may go and eat some of hers when she sees it is the same or more boring. -

Any method is only as good as the individual doing it

Be proud of the guy he has tried to get a puppy from the right place. Don't give him any grief about the colour either. Puppy may be fine. I've taught several that haven't got bad skin issues. Also had several clients that had traditional coloured staffies that did have skin issues. Is a blue Stafford breeder unethical? For me it depends on the individual.

My dog is the opposite - refuses to eat dry food! Nothing wrong with her teeth as she chomps bones with no issues. And yes I have sat there doing the 'please eat for Mummy' thing. She doesn't care if I tip her food into the others bowls either. She is fairly fussy with her raw stuff too. She doesn't give in either with eating or rather I have given in first. She went about 4 days without eating at one stage which had me at the vets demanding xrays. Never had a fussy dog before. -
I don't mix dry with the meat. They are normally fed in different meals. Why some dry? Hedging my bets I guess. Rather then using a vitamin mix they get the super premium dry. I used to feed BARF as per the book, with kelp, juiced veggies etc. I had a bit of a traumatic incident and stopped feeding it. One dog is on full raw though as she refuses to eat kibble. The other 2 and still 50/50. If you do a fair bit of leg work i think raw isn't too pricey. Hunting down cheap bones etc.

I know what that is like. At least Cole is past that excitement now and just comes out and works nicely no matter how long it is since he's seen sheep but it took a long time getting there. I am preferring it to the - 'shove sheep in corner and hold them' trick that she did for the first year of herding.
