For sure! I know I have lots to work on with my dog. But surely dogs can have a "bad day" just like humans as well? I know there are days where I have really felt like not working and only put a half hearted or no effort into it Of course it is up to the handler to motivate the dog though... Which I clearly need to work on lol I sometimes wonder what comes first - is my dog having a bad day, or is it me and I'm influencing how my dog is feeling? I've just come home from a not-so-great session, and the first thing I did at the end of class was talk to my trainers and ask them what I might do better next time. I've come home armed with some great idea's and am now feeling very motivated to put their suggestions to work

Why's the postage so expensive? I bought 2 Leerburg DVD's a couple of weeks ago and postage was $33.00.

Have to agree - he's a great puppy. I have no idea what his bloodlines are - I was told the RAAF keep the bitches from their own litters for breeding (if they show any promise). As far as this boys bloodline is concerned they may have to go back a couple of generations, but now that the question has been asked I'll have to quiz my coordinator ;)

He was bred at the RAAF base (Amberley). They breed approx 80 puppies (Mal's and GSD's) a year apparently. Mita thanks so much for giving me the incentive to get in touch with the RAAF, it's something I've thought about for a long time but never took it any further. I'm enjoying the experience so far and love learning how the Military use training in drive - I've been using it with my own GSD since the beginning of last year and I'm keen to learn more ETA he's from "U" litter - I think the litter you would've seen would be the "T" litter?

Thought I'd add a quick update and introduce my MWD foster We're up to week three of his four month stay, and so far we're having a great time. He and my two other dogs have become great mates, he loves coming to work and so far he is literally "bomb" proof Nothing upsets him and he's keen to investigate everything - I'm now discovering the difference between my showline GSD and my foster workingline GSD

Help To Find Pet Friendly Rental In Brisbane!
gsdog2 replied to kitty's topic in General Dog Discussion
My son and his partner have a Ridgy and today they have received approval for a brand new (house) rental at Springfield Lakes for less that $400 p/w. Not in the right area but thought I'd add it anyway - there were a number of dog-friendly rentals found on realestate.com -
I'm sorry I don't see how you can make this comparison I agree that small breeds will also bite and because of size the media disregard this. But an elderley lady losing her footing has nothing to do with a child being attacked by a dog

I am fostering a RAAF Military Working Dog (MWD) puppy at the moment and I know he could well end up in Afganistan one day . However in the meantime I know he is going to get the BEST treatment and have the MOST fun a dog could wish for 24/7. Lucky obviously showed some potential to be offered to the Military otherwise they wouldn't accept him. More often than not the potential he would have shown would have made him difficult to rehome into a domestic situation, so what sort of life was the RSPCA expecting him to have? I feel privileged to have my MWD puppy for a few months before he starts his real (and very important) training, and if he saves one life the work that the Military do with him will be worth it.

I considered this when I brought my shepherd home after he died earlier this year but it broke my heart to think of Indi seeing him (he was pts during surgery as he wasn't going to survive) - I couldn't go through with it

Does Anyone Know If Any Dog Parks In Ipswich
gsdog2 replied to SueM's topic in General Dog Discussion
The one at Sth Station Road (opp. Brothers) has a seperate fenced area within the offlead park Great thanks, will work out which one is closest to Karalee. We're talking about the same one. Ok I thought there was one at Booval as well - as Greymate has said. I don't go to offlead parks at all so have no idea what either of them are like ;) -
I have also tried seperating our dogs from an early age and it doesn't always work. I lost my nine year old shepherd to gastric torsion earlier this year (very sudden) and my younger shepherd was completely lost without him. Yet from the day I brought her home I made a point of taking her to work with me four days a week, so plenty of time for the both of them to be apart. She had little routines like meeting him at the gate when we got home from work and going for a daily walk with him down the back yard (acreage) to "talk" to the shepherd that lives behind us . So despite the fact that they spent plenty of time apart her life was still turned upside down when we lost him and it took her quite a few months to get over his loss. She is now much closer to my Goldie than she was when my other shepherd was still around - I think she's just the type of dog that needs to form close bonds with another dog, despite her close relationship with me.

I had two German Shepherds that were a year apart in age. I never thought about the fact that they were so close in age - until I lost the younger shepherd. When I took the older one to the vet for a general check he warned me that at his age (11 yrs) he could just give up living after losing his mate. Sadly, a month after losing my first shepherd the second one literally gave up, allowing his arthritis to get the better of him. I then had to make the most difficult decision and allow him to join his beloved mate waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for him. I decided I would never have two dogs so close in age again, however I now have a Goldie (6yrs) and a Shepherd (2 1/2 yrs) and I'm worried the same thing's going to happen again as Goldies tend to have a longer lifespan than Shepherds

So will the ban also include the military?

Training And Pps Recommendations
gsdog2 replied to Prydenjoy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Facebook page I thoroughly recommend Von Everest Dog Training Center at Wulkuraka. I go on Sunday afternoon but I see they've just started a class on Saturday morning. Their training is all positive -
I think the family made the right decision too and using their own vet was also the right decision - an absolutely heart breaking decision though
-
R.I.P Dusty - my heart goes out to your family
-
I agree - the idea of this poor family's pet in a lab is horrible. The fact that the Bondi vet suggested it doesn't surprise me at all
-
I lost my shepherd earlier this year and like you I stressed about the arthritis he seemed to suffer with most of his life. Ironically just before we lost him we had commented on the fact that his arthritis had not really gotten any worse in the last couple of years and we might actually have him for a few more years. Sadly we lost him to something completely different (gastric torsion) which could have happened at any stage of his life. I guess my point is your worrying isn't going to stop anything, but it is going to influence the time you do have with your beautiful boy. Just enjoy him - who knows, you just might have him for many many more years to come

Amazing German Shepherd Dogs Performance
gsdog2 replied to Brennan's Mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I agree with Vickie too - I've seen a shepherd demo team work with fire and it wasn't easy. They were clever dogs working to a fairly high level but they were refusing to go near the hoops on fire. As Vickie said - "If you have a dog with good solid nerves & structure & you are an experienced trainer who has worked at building a strong reward system with your dog" ....... then it's easy -
I still think Gus is very clever - his plan right from the start was to take his pool indoors and that's exactly what he did

Apparently the vet nurse you have mentioned is still not well
