  1. OMG I can't believe you remember that!! hahaha. I had a packet of chocolate freckles and a packet of strawberries and creams (you need to eat both of them together at the same time - seriously, try it!) at the last K9 Pro workshop at CT. I had them zipped in the pocket at the top of Daisy's crate during the workshop and forgot they were there... until Daisy unzipped the pocket and ate the whole bloody packet Thankfully she waited until no-one was watching her to do this, unlike that DOL meet with the box of Krispy Kremes... Ok so I've picked up two things I must remember:- 1. Must have chocolate freckles AND strawberries & creams 2. Must have "above" in STRONG Daisy-proof container I'm learning things already ;)
  2. Yes dandybrush (very awesome!) - I missed out on Steve's seminar last year due to transport issues and my OH knew how disappointed I was so he wasn't going to let it happen again. He said he'd drive me there, stay the weekend (and go fishing of course ) and drive me home on Sunday. Now all I have to do is *hope* he catches some fish!!!
  3. Mine doesn't want me to commute so I'm dragging him with me (he's driving) and he's going to find himself a good fishing spot while I'm off doing my thing ;)
  4. Hey thanks huski - looking forward to meeting you and the lovely Evil Beagle too . I'm going to have one crazy sheppey with me though - she's driving my other two nuts atm after being inside for so long
  5. Me too - Indi and I will be there, and Indi will be very "fresh" !!! With the floods (not to mention xmas) we haven't had a chance to do a whole lot of training. At one stage the only time the dogs got outside was for a quick toilet stop and then they were back inside - and they're feet were still red from the water and mud they had to walk through .
  6. Safe at home (Ipswich), however our business will probably go under tonight/tomorrow
  7. I've often taken my Gsd's for a walk at night on my own, confident that I was safe and no-one would even think to hassle me - maybe I was wrong
  8. I've been thinking the same thing - and we're talking about a specialist I'm wondering if the original vet (not the one I saw today, but from the same surgery) should have done a blood screen before sending my boy off for the Endoscopy. At the time all I could think was - tumour!!! and just wanted to get him checked out. My poor OH couldn't look sideways at me without me - I wasn't thinking straight as I was sure I was going to lose my beautiful boy. With hindsight things could have been handled better
  9. I don't wish to stand on any Vet's toes, although I'm sure I often do. I'm sorry for that as I do not ever intend to give the impression that I think I know better. As a general rule, I do not. I readily and freely acknowledge that. BUT .... if the results for thyroid show up as ok, I wouldn't be trusting that result unless the bloods were checked by Dr Jean Dodds in the USA. Reason being is that our facilities in Oz don't pick up thyroid issues until the thryoid is further degenerated by comparison to the testing facilities in the USA. I don't trust the analysis comparison we do here either. I'd prefer to know this as a certainly before heading down the cortisone track. But that's just me. Thanks Erny - I'll be speaking to my vet again tomorrrow morning so I'll mention the thyroid to him Today has been a good day for my boy, with no sign of blood from his nose. And as I mentioned earlier the drinking and urinating is back to normal, however I'm still concerned that this happened after a GA - not a normal reaction.
  10. Ok - I'll bite I, and I'm sure many others here, take offence at this comment. I own 2 GSD's and 1 GR and the most "protective" of the three is the GR. The female GSD comes to work with me every day and welcomes all customers with a friendly wag of the tail and possible cuddle - no ripping off of arms with my GSD's (or the Rotti's I know either)
  11. yeah he should have really done this first. If an inflammed site is bleeding out constantly there might be another bleeding you DONT see. I would get a complete blood spectrum done, I mean everything, and go from there. Especially since he's drinking so much water Hope things get better for you I mentioned this to the vet and he's now doing full bloods and Urinalysis. I'm really hoping nothing too serious shows up. He's assured me if there's a problem it will show in these tests and I should have the results tomorrow. All going well we'll start the cortisone tomorrow afternoon.
  12. Ohhh noooooooo ............. :D had it on and fell asleep! Missed the whole thing!
  13. I notice also that this breeder has not gone back to the media to let the public know that two of their beloved pups have been found and that they have received $1200 for them
  14. Spoke to specialist this morning and the result of the biopsy was that he has inflamed cells and the most likely cause is Lymphoplasmacytic Rhinitis. The specialist wants to treat him with cortisone, however when I brought my boy home he was drinking large amounts of water and urinating more than normal (he's back to normal now), so before he starts on the cortisone he will be having blood and urine tests. On top on this the specialist now informs me that he is moving interstate so he will pass my boy's history on to one of the other specialists. When I asked who I should ask for if I need someone in an emergency he named three different people who might be able to help (not one of them work at the centre full-time). *Lolapalooza* - no he hasn't had a GA in years (probably 2005). Pyometra is such a scary thing, and being told she had cancer as well it certainly puts my problems into perspective. I'm so glad she's ok now Nekhbet - the specialist has mentioned this, but ruled it out as he is only bleeding from the nose. At this stage we have spent over $2000 (I would spend $$$ again if it would help) with no definate diagnosis and back to our vet tomorrow for tests and cortisone as the specialist agrees they are quite capable of carrying out the same tests he was going to carry out, and they are much closer.
  15. No, the only medication is Heartguard once a month. His blood pressure was "slightly" raised, however the specialist felt it was only due to the excitement of being at the centre and not enough to cause his nose to bleed.
  16. I have a 9yr old male GSD that started having nosebleeds two weeks ago (that I've noticed). I first found brown spots on our garage floor where he has a bed and sleeps at night. We have three dogs but the other two sleep in crates - this boy prefers to sleep on a large mattress on the floor. I noticed brown spots on the floor but it didn't occur to me that one of the dogs was bleeding until the spots increased. We checked all three dogs and couldn't find any cuts or anything that would cause the spots of blood on the floor. Later that day my GSD had blood literally dripping from his nose, but it only lasted about 5 minutes and gradually it became clearer in colour and slowed down. As it was Sunday and the bleeding seemed to ease I waited until the next day and took him to the vet first thing in the morning. The vet couldn't find any obvious cause and said we could either try some AB's or what she'd really like is to send him to the specialist for an Endoscopy. We chose the Endoscopy as we didn't want to waste time guessing what might be wrong. An appointment was made and he was at the specialist first thing the next day prepared for a GA and Endoscopy. After some discussion with the specialist I was advised that my boy should also have an MRI just in case the Endoscopy didn't show anything - with the bleeding it's not always easy to see what's happening. My GSD had both the Endoscopy and MRI with no evidence of tumours, fungal infection or foreign bodies. The nasal passages appeared to be inflammed - possibly due to allergies or reactions to inhaled irritants (not that I can think of anything that has changed recently that would cause this ) We are now waiting on the results of the biopsy. I brought him home last Wednesday, as he stayed overnight at the specialist centre, and although he was still bleeding from the nose occasionally it seemed to be improving. He was sent home on Cephalexin to guard against possible infection from the biopsy, but I hoped that maybe it was helping with whatever was causing his nose bleed. This was a week ago now and today I've noticed the bleeding has started again - not all the time, but it's there. The specialist told me he would ring either yesterday or today with the results of the biopsy, but as yet I haven't heard anything. I will ring him tomorrow morning, but in the meantime I was hoping someone here might have come across something like what my boy is going through that I could put to the specialist when I speak to him. Any help would be welcome as this boy is very special to me and not knowing what's wrong with him is very upsetting.
  17. The "good news" is that two of the pups have now been located. Apparently the breeder approached a nearby vet just recently giving the details of the pups microchips. By sheer coincidence a pup was brought into the surgery soon after and when the vet scanned it's microchip it turned out to be one of the the lost pups :D . The vet realised he'd had a similar pup in his surgery only recently and contacted the pups owner - asking if they would bring it in. The vet scanned the second pup and discovered it was also one of the stolen pups. What followed was a round table discussion with the pups new owners and the breeder. Apparently both pups were innocently purchased by the new owners, one for $600 and the other for $800 (without papers :D ). The breeder said if these people gave them $600 for each pup they could keep their pup and it would be up to the new owners to chase up the people they originally bought them from (the people who stole them ???) to get their money back. Not surprisingly the new owners paid the money. What happens now I don't know but it's nice to know that at least two of the pups in a roundabout way have ended up in good homes. The vet also deserves the for being so observant.
  18. I'm going through this right now with my nine year old GSD male at the specialists as I type, undergoing a general anaesthetic, endoscopy, biopsy and MRI - after I noticed he had a nose bleed on Sunday. When I took him to the vet yesterday she said she could try AB's although it doesn't really look like an infection, or I could take him to the specialist and have an endoscopy performed. I chose the endoscopy as I didn't want to muck around with meds and end up at the specialist anyway. So, we arrive at the specialist today and he wanted to do an MRI as well!! Prices went along these lines:- MRI $1750.00 Endoscopy $1500.00 Both at the same time $2200.00 I rang my OH and he said we may as well go ahead and do both (I love him ) I am happy to go ahead and spend this on my boy as he's my heartdog and I love him to bits .......... however, the specialist is already talking (if it's a tumour) radium or maybe chemo. Not because of the cost but because my boy is nine years old and already has quite bad arthritis, I don't know that I will put him through this. It may give him a little more time, but he is not a social dog and doesn't like strangers or strange places and I know he would really stress if he was put through these procedures. I am hoping that I won't have to make this decision and his "problem" is nothing more than a grass seed, but if it's not, my decision will be whatever's best for him and not me being selfish and keeping him alive for my sake ;) ;) ;) Money won't be making my decision!
  19. Mine arrived this morning Thanks to all involved you've done a great job :nahnah:
  20. After all that Sarbi's been through you couldn't ask for a better way for her to spend her "retirement" - she deserves to be spoilt
  21. The Leerburg DVD "The Power of Playing Tug with Your Dog" is a favourite of mine that shows the correct ways to present the tug And I agree with you that DOL has shown me just how little I know about dogs too - but it's also a great place to learn
