I agree. Sometimes there IS a case for using DRUGS. Knock him out! ;) That means YOU won't need drugs. It's the dog or me! When the vet recommends an exorcist, you know you have issues. No that I've ever had an exorcist recommendation from a vet. :D sorry - I know lack of sleep is not so funny after a while. I do admire your sense of humour under duress. :D

I have been avoiding weight bearing bones. So she gets chicken necks and frames. Wings are ok, but too fatty considering she gets other fatty stuff. Turkey necks Lamb flap in small portions. I must seek out some more Lamb necks. They are good too. She would still get Roo tail if she wasn't sensitive to Roo. It does all wonders for the teeth.

Yoghurt or acidophilous supplement? Withdraw chicken for a while and see what happens? My dog is clearly sensitive to roo. Some are sensitive to Beef. And a poster recently ssaid he thought chicken was the problem with his dog. Others say grains are a problem for theirs. Trial and error. One thing I have learned from human experience is that something like lactose intolerance is patchy. This is because the gut does not produce the enzyme needed to digest the lactose and it builds up and ferments in the system. It's only when it gets to a certain level of imbalance that symptoms become glaringly obvious. It can rumble on for a while before just a small amount of the offending substance tips it into overdrive. Not always easy to pinpoint the offending substance in that sort of scenario.

Real Christmas Trees And Doggies
noisymina replied to koalathebear's topic in General Dog Discussion
It's not the tree that is the problem. It's the presents one puts underneath it. :D I thought ours was safe in another room, but someone left a door open. 6am Xmas morning, I gaze bleary eyed out of the kitchen window ---- and wonder what all the flaky things are out on the grass. Our Weimaraner had acccessed the tree, snffed out the After Dinner Mints, stolen a pack, taken it outside, unwrapped the Xmas paper, taken off the cellophane, Taken them out of the box, one by one, taken each one out of it's little brown envelope and consumed them - one by one. When I got out there, she was exiting the room with her second pack. At that stage, I did not know that chocolate was poisonous to dogs. Fortunately, she did not suffer any obvious side effects. -
Our dog is perefectly fine with our cat. But she would kill a feral cat if she got hold of it. It normally ducks through the fence before she can get to it. And I'd wish her luck too, as we have lost one of our own dom cats to that feral. No way I'd re-home her for it. She would have been doing her job.

OMG Loraine. What HAVE you done to him? :D Are YOU looking ghostly lately from lack of sleep by any chance? ;) In which case, he now has TWO of them.

Umm...maybe yoghurt would be helping to "normalise" the urine? We don't seem to have a burning problem here. Mostly natural, but not all of the above. Yoghurt is a common one that I think might be helpful. I do agree that maybe it would be OK if the grass was not already well feritlized. Ferilizer will kill grass if it's over done - and yours just might be getting a bit too much at the moment.

Just a thought............. I have recently found that mine chucks dinner up if there is roo mince involved. The whole lot comes up. I have eliminated that mince and she has not chucked since. Try giving only one type of meat at each meal - and see if the chucking correlates with any particular one. I only give mine only two or three ribs from a Lamb flap at at a time because it is very fatty. She does need some fat in her diet - but not too much at once. .

My Puppy's Heart Is Failing... What Should I Do?
noisymina replied to Eco's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Darling, sometimes life is tough. Sometimes, the kindest thing you can do is let them go peacefully. I'm so sorry you are having this experience with your very first pup. That really is bad luck at its worst. The reality us that, at those prices, you are looking at very complicated and risky surgery. Major surgery on a very young pup. Even if you have all the money in the world, it may not be enough to save him in the long run - or even in the short run, perhaps. And he will be going through operations that he has no way of even understanding. Hugs to you, honey. Please take up the breeder's offer. Even if you defer and wait for the next litter, perhaps? -

OK - this is what I found. http://www.naturalnews.com/021059.html And yes - when Teflon is heated above a certain temp, it becomes toxic. -

Um..yeh. You've had a bit to deal with. Even viruses can spark off the Asthma if there is already an underlying allergy issue. So Pneumonia sure would not help. -

WOW - I didn't know about that Diamiond stuff. Goiung to Google it now. I was going to post about generations of HUMANS eating teflon with no short term ill effects - but long term unknowns. I avoid the stufff a much as possible. -

I was just doing abit of a run through Google and found this one! http://www.bigpawsonly.com/spayed-dogs-inc...ce-features.htm I think I would have a hard time doing that with a docked breed. -

Vets seem to vary in their attitude to the use of Stilboestrol. Kaisie was born 2.7.99. So she's now 11 years old. Which is a bloody good innings for a Dobe. She was diagnosed with Spay incontinence at 4 years. Except for that 12 -18 month herbal break, she's been on Stilboestrol the whole time since then. In the last year or so, she's been on Propalin as well. -

Unfortunately, if one is "generally allergic" as I am described, one is pretty well allergic to anything that blows in the door. Most of the time, I've kept the animals outside - very near to us as we have a slab-on-ground house with shelter at the kitchen/family room door. Now the boys are grown and Kaisie is getting "on", she's wiggled into the family room and now gets to sleep inside. The bedrooms, however, are a strict no go zone for animals. I'm planning to look into an air purifier for the bedroom area. Hard floors all round - ducted vacuum and wet mop regularly. But the pollen, grasses and, more likely, the fungii spores are still going to cause havoc - animals or no animals. I still believe the Poodle was the best dog I've had allergy wise. Although I still used to get a bit of a raction to her saliva. But that can be largely avoided with some care. -

You can do some research and try the herbal route. I did that with Kaisie for a while with some apparent, but not totally perfect, success. She is on Propalin and Stilboestrol these days. I'm 100% sure as it was a while ago, but I think some of the herbs I used were: Corn silk Rose hips Brewer's Yeast Calcium Ascorbate powder Fennel Seeds Dolomite Trouble is, you get varying opinions on individual supplements. So sure, do research etc before you go that way. I think, for example, some say Dolomite is not a good thing. Some say they can be allergic to Brewer's yeast. But I only used small amounts and she never seemd to have any probelms with the mix. We did that for over 12 months. Until we found our new vet. She was not worried about the mix I was giving her. Although I think she was dubious about the efficacy of it. Garlic is often recommended for animals but I'm not in favour of using it unless they are clearly unwell with a virus or cold. It is also a lot more trouble. But certainly not as expensive. The supplement packs go a LOT further! One bag of Corn Silk will last you for 5 years. -

Our dog understands the word "quiet". So I guess you need to use that word when you re-inforce and eventually she will know what "quiet" means. -

Jeepers Jaxx .........I like being able to just toss the raw meat out to her! If it's only Roo, I'm ok with that. Just took a while for me to work it out. -

noisymina replied to noisymina's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yeh - she does tend to gulp down the food. Always has to some degree. But the only chucks have involved the mince. She hasn't chucked the other. The amount of mince she had tonigth was about 2 tablespoons! That is not a big gulp for a Dobe. She knocked back an equivalent amount of BARF mince and them a large Turkey neck without the same result. Yes sheena .....it is INSTANT chuck! She was not keen on it much to start with, my OH said. She was not in a hurry to re-eat either. But was REALLY keen on the other stuff I gave her. Can't say she was being finicky. She did try. EFS -
I've never owned a Peke but when I was a kid, some good friends had four of them. Yeh, she had one, and they bred it (pure bred) and when it came tome to sell the pups, she found resaons why everyone that came along would not be a good owner. So she ended up with all four of them. They are small, cute, sniffly/snorting things that sneeze all over you all the time. :D I loved visisting them, but not my choice of breed. Oh - I never noticed them having too much trouble with the heat - apart from a fair bit of panting going on, but they always did that.. No air con in those days. But they were inside/shaded. I don't think full sun would have been a good idea.

She Swallowed A Whole Turkey Neck -
noisymina replied to noisymina's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think it's the new mince. I THINK it has Kangaroo in it. When she chucked the Turkey neck, she had also had a small amount of the mince in that feed. Tonight, I sent out the mince on it's own with her medcine in it, planning to take the Turkey out later and "supervise" closely. She chucked the mince straight back at DH. I later took her out and gave her a half BARF patty which went down ok Later still, I took out the Turkey and made her, sort of, eat it slowly. It stayed down too. She's never had me hold onto her bones before, but she was good girl. :D
