  1. Is it a suburban area? As I understand it, regulations prohibit the burial of dead animals in those ares. Not to say people don't. If that is the case, then yes they can photograph for that reason, even if for no other.
  2. This is a great thread - even if the original remark/s was/were out of order. I want a really nice house now. Found my motivation to get up and clean tomorrow! :p
  3. Loads of dogs are actually allergic to it, interesting huh, especially as it's meant to be good for skin Yeh. I didn't know that. Kasie is doing well on it. Between the diet and extra grooming lately, she's so shiny she's dazzling!
  4. Thanks for that information, VJB. It's been pretty humid/wet around here in the lst month and doggie odour has been more noticeable. I don't think Kaisie has been so well groomed in a long time. She's shining big time. I do agree - quite rude of the guest/s to mention it. When I was a kid, I used to spend a LOT of time with a friend and her Mum a few blocks away. They had all sorts of animals including 4 Pekes. The house was carpeted too. And whenever one stepped over the babay gate at the front door, there would be these 4 OTT dogs at your legs, sniffing, snorting all over and licking your legs. The place smelt like dog big time. But hey were lovely people and the house was clean. I loved going there and got used to the doggy smell. Never once said anything about it. I guess one accpts thse things more when young. I don't like to come home to my place after it has been locked up a few hours in the summer and smell an unpleasant odour. Kaisie stays outside when we are out. Putting the yoghurt in her breakfast every day has been a good idea.
  5. Sounds good. I was not too happy with the scent options for the Penetrator Plus, so I looked further and went into the "Hospitality" section. I'm thinking of getting the Ozona Room Reviver in Vanilla. I only have the one dog and she's not all that smelly. I can't see that it would be any different. As it is slightly more expensive, it might even be better?
  6. Use a different shampoo on the dogs. And do it regularly. I know Kaisie smells much more "doggy" on one shanpoo I use than on the other. I'm not replacing the smelly one now it's finished. Try to keep them dry. Yeh - I know, I joke given the weather we have been having. Try rubbing them over with a rag rinsed in a dilute shampoo mix every few days before brushing. And I second the hint about keeping the bedding well washed. The wooden flooring may need re-sealing. If it is a bit porous, that might explain it retaining odours.
  7. You can get calico covers that are replacement covers for the Pet Futon. Just get the replacenent cover/s and get the foam cut to size to fit in it (them) and you are done. Linky: http://www.vetnpetdirect.com.au/SNOOZFRC
  8. Good on you! It's an incredibly cheap medication. I was using like a 1/4 teaspoon for the Dobe and it only took a few days. Think I might give her another course of it soon. She's getting a bit "nervous" again. Poor thing. I think she is just getting more sensitve with age. Loud noises in particular and any sudden movements around her from visitors (visitors she knows even) seem to stress her a lot. I don't think it's likely to kill the dog if he gets a bit much. It's a natural amino acid. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tryptophan From research I have come across, it seems the body can only absorb a limited amount of it at any one time anyway. So giving any more is a useless execrcise and no more benefit ensues. Thus, giving more won't do any harm either.
  9. You could just add brewer's yeast to her food. That is full of all the B vits.
  10. Do you know if the dog was eating well at the kennels or not? Was the food there different? Had she lost weight while at the kennels? Has she been wormed well since coming back home? Some dogs do not eat well when separated. If she was fretting and not eating for a time, the stomach may have been affected in some way. You hear of stomachs srrinking in size for example, to adjust to low food intake. It might take some time for that to reverse. I don't see any harm in using the chicken necks for a while and maybe adding an appetite stimulant. Nutrigel, I think is another type around in that category.
  11. Personally, from a human perspective, I think Latex is better than memory foam. Memory foam depends on warmth to work. Until it warms, it is quite hard. Much as I tried, I could never get comfortable with the memory foam pillow. I now have latex mattress and pillows and am much happier with them. In both memory and latex there are a variety of "qualities" around.
  12. Yeh - makes me think that lightning was a bit too close for comfort. Poor thing. It happens here quite a bit as we are on a large block, can see for quite a distnace and have lots of trees. Needles to say, our dog prefers inside away from windows and lights on when it storms. If we are not home, she runs around in it and gets soaking wet, like yours did. If lightning hit close by, I guess she would be the same as yours was when we got home. Luckily that has not happened.
  13. How close? Could that lightning have come to earth somewhere very close to your house? If so, that might explain it. She may be suffereing from shock if that is the case. I assume you have dried her and warmed her since you got home.
  14. Where is the "dandruff"? Is it all over, or in particular spots? eg MY dog tends to get a bit itchy/dandruffy on her back, just forward from the tail. Only in that area. So she gets washed in either Malaseb shampoo - or the Dermicare Natural Shampoo - and I rub some Pyohex cream on that area after her bath - and sometime inbetween baths. Diet helped a bit, but i've never been able to beat it totally.
  15. My boy is a freak lol. Entire male, very protective, but incredibly social. Loves to meet and play with new and old dog friends, and loves to meet new people. Just yesterday, we had a couch delivered, and he goes from not letting them enter the property, not charging them, but blocking the doorway and barking and growling enough to stop 3 huge guys, to the second I appear and say hi, putting his ears back and putting on his cute face, ready for giving and receiving love. But yeah I agree with you, he is definitely the exception. I used to always get so excited when I saw another dobe, thinking mine would like to play with them, but now I don't bother even approaching, because best case scenario, they're totally dismissive, worst, they try and attack your dog. Don't you just love the way they follow your lead? When a strange car comes in, she won't let any sensble person exit it until I'm there AND being friendly towards them. One truckie jumped out before we got there one day and threatened her. Why couldn't he wait rather than risk dog attack? Idiot. I still miantain that if she had been some other dog or breed of dog, he would have regretted it. He later told my DH that he had recently been bitten by a Rottie. I wonder how come? If it's the JWs and I stand back and act a bit offish", she will round up the car and snap at any protruding body part ...until they get the hint. I think our Dobes would play. Jacqui
  16. My Dobe is not usually dog unsocial. There have been a couple of exceptions. But she's not OTT friendly either. If I call her away, she's happy to leave them and come. The attitudes to my Dobe have been quite a source of amusement. I've had people cross the street when they see us. I've had kids at the school do a BIG detour around us while we waited to pick up our kids. They must all think the dog leads are elastic or something. And other kids just bowl up on noisy scooter things, scare the heck out of her, and want to pat her. They didn't know ANYTHING about dogs. And a visiting doggy friend saying, while she patted the head on her lap, "I didn't realise Dobes were such sooks!" .
  17. Noni juice? Umm......some say it's a miracle. Got to be wary of miracles sold via "network marketing" aka "pyramid schemes". Who knows. it might work in spite of that.
  18. Cushion vinyl throughout. Except for tiles in bathroom, laundry and front entry. Mats at the doors for dirt collecton. Our dog does not jump in the house.
  19. They DO know the difference between warm and cold water. Kaisie was petrifed of the hose when I got her (and the broom, and the vacuum and......) Now, when it's hot, she will willingly stand and let me turn the hose on her full bore. Turns her head side to side and revels in it! I do what you do with horses - start at the feet and slowly work up so it's not a shock for them. She definitely hates the cold water. When I set up the warm water, she was clearly much happier to be washed in winter. The packet of treats helps lot. I used to get my son to hold her on the check chain and feed her treats to stop her snapping at me as I washed. It's a totally different picture now.
  20. Can you explain this to me please? So you rinse with vinegar, then wash with shampoo then rinse again with plain water? I'm just curious for next time I wash peter !. Wet Dog 2. Shampoo Dog 3. Fill a bucket 1/2 - 3/4 full and add vinegar. A cup ot two. 4. Pour this over sudsy dog. 5. Hose off whatever is left (and rinse off vinegar in the process.) Just try sudsing up your hands and put them in vinegar - it kills the suds and gets rid of detergent instantly. I also use it in the fabric softener dispenser in the washing machine to help rinse the clothes.
  21. Kaisie gets washed in the laundry courtyard under the clothes line with the hose. In Winter, I use an adaptor that hooks the hose to the laundry tap and we have warm water. The first rinse is a bucket of water with vinegar in it. That greatly reduces th water needed for rinsing off. She gets done as needed .........and when the weather is suitable.....and I have the energy. So only a few times a year. She's been done twice in the last two weeks tho, due to mud bath activity. We were not home and she seldom does that stuff. So I dn't know what got into her.
  22. GG is a tryptophan based calmative. Do a Google and you will get the details. Ask the produce. It's only in small packs, so probably easliy missed or kept under counter or they have another brand of the same thing. There are others that are similar. Check out this thread, too. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=207920
  23. I was just going to say - ours even does little barks in her sleep. They run and bark and growl and carry on even when asleep. :D They can snore too.
