  1. Hopefully Wandy recovers quickly Lab_Rat! Good luck to everyone competing at the State Obedience Trial tonight. Mare still has her legs crossed so I am staying home. I am also very glad I didn't enter Varda - due to the mare but mainly due to how hot it is today! Hopefully the cool change comes before the comp starts.
  2. Mirawee- where abouts are you, may be able to help with the rabbits if you like depending on where you are. Ferreting most days just not in that area We are in Gidgegannup We definitely don't put baits down and I am fairly sure the neighbours don't either (I would check first). I wouldn't want a bunny to die from poisoning plus there is the risk the dogs would get it and we are too big a softies to do it ourselves (plus wouldn't be confident doing it quickly enough for a humane death) We also have plague proportion kangaroos for the same reason but at least they don't dig holes that can potentially break my horses' legs when they are playing in the paddock :D It isn't a good season for feed for my ponies but the rabbits and kangaroos certainly appreciate the pasture we put in this year ;)
  3. Welcome to DOL and the WA Thread :D Allie is lovely ;) Post photos as much as you want ;)
  4. Want to come to WA??? We have plague proportion rabbits at our place atm Big fat ones too Am about to move horses to a new paddock but will have to spend a couple of hours walking it find and fill in bunny holes first!
  5. That is because I was disturbing her breakfast to take photos And horse boobies aren't always as big as hers - I think she has jersey cow in her pedigree :D When not about to foal you actually have to look close to see them Oh and I am used to seeing horse boobie shots - just go to any horse forum at this time of year and you will see plenty :D It is one of the methods used to determine when the foal might deign to arrive Oh and vCBR Arab foals are so cute! I tried to breed a purebred but the mare I leased wouldn't conceive ;)
  6. Pretty well :D The colostrum often starts leaking prior to the mare foaling and it forms a solid bit on the end of the teat that looks like a wax candle (which can get a couple of inches long in some mares!) :D Boobie picture is from my mare this morning to show you what I mean ;) And I have given her a full body shot (photo was taken a couple of days ago) to give her some dignity
  7. And I thought I got strange looks when I tell people I have 2 whole frozen pigeons in my freezer Although, I don't tell dinner guests that... ;) Pigeon is a delicacy isn't it And now I know that the fox tails come through customs without a problem.... I am not addicted to Cleanrun, I am not addicted to Cleanrun... :D
  8. If my mare foals before then I should be there... atm she is giving lots of signs of impending foaling but has her legs crossed still! Bloody horse... last years foal arrived within hours of wax forming on her teats - this year we have had wax for a couple of days already!
  9. Everyone is welcome in the WA thread The collar on Tiggy's Banjo is a Cleanrun collar - which are currently in the free postage section
  10. That's showing for you ;) In fact it isn't uncommon to go BIS at a big show then at the back of the line at a smaller one in WA at least! Yay to the Winpara BC :D
  11. If you google "Breakaway collars" you get several Australian companies that stock them and they don't seem to be down as "out of stock" :D They are about $30 each including postage. Alternatively, given how good the Aussie dollar is atm buying from the USA is probably quite cheap depending on postage costs ;) I have seen some homemade ones made with strong velcro fastenings though ETA: hmm, just saw that you are "overseas" so my suggestions may not help
  12. I still have one cat at my place although she lives outside the front of the house She is 16yo though so doesn't tend to wander down to the sheds to keep the mice population on alert for me though She is often at the front door and when I let the dogs out they end up bolting out and have to jump her ;) Most of our cats have lived well into their teens Will be nice to have a new barn cat around as I miss being harrassed when feeding the horses (our last barn cat was very vocal ) ETA: And most of our cats have been ferals who turned up in our sheds (either as kittens or half grown). The last time I deliberately went and got a cat was about 20 years or more ago
  13. What does that matter? Cat will be an outside cat - well living in the hay shed - which is why I don't just go in and choose any cat and the dogs don't go near them that often - and if they do they will only chase if the cat runs I tried to convince Banjo to try and catch some mice the other day for me but he just looked at me and went off to find some horse hoof instead ;)
  14. Well all you lot are making me jealous with puppy photos so I have decided I need a new four legged animal :D Just waiting to hear back from the Cat Haven to see if they have anything suitable to be our new mouser (apparently Mum saw a big rat the other day too ) Our old barn cat unfortunately had cancer and was put to sleep at the beginning of winter so the mice have been having a grand time. Hopefully that will change soon The lady on the phone laughed at my requirements of no white on the face ;) But after our last two white marked two cats having cancer (ears and nose affected) it just is not an option! And she understood when I told her why
  15. Kelpies and BC are more Australian than Aussie Shepherds though :D Actually I am unlikely not to get a Kelpie... BC and Aussies require grooming, trimming and chalk for the show ring
  16. There's something else they should bring out, too :D They can do that too I think! But they would all be to scared to, don't think there would be a dog left in many breeds. ;) i am confused lol someone want to clue me in??? I am assuming RS means scales? However I just checked and thier is on weight on the Lab standard. Hmm, well my guys would be fine with scales as most working breeds don't have a weight standard Plus the last judge who mentioned Banjo's weight told me I needed to get him fatter
  17. ;) There's something else they should bring out, too :D They can do that too I think! But they would all be to scared to, don't think there would be a dog left in many breeds. i am confused lol someone want to clue me in??? I have no idea either
  18. Most heights in standards have an allowance. Ie Lappies are plus or minus 2.5cm. And most have the clause "type is more important than size" Banjo is 1cm over height for a kelpie according to his official measure. However I do wonder how he got measured at 52cm given he is shorter than Robi who was measured at 51.5cm! I have always measured him around 51cm
  19. If she fits the 22" weatherbeeta go the 22" then ;) They aren't that loose around the front (I wouldn't want Banjo's any tighter). If needed and it is too big you could always take it in a little bit yourself I am constantly having to put darts in my horses' rugs as they are too loose around the neck Or fly over and try Banjo's on and if that's too big try my Banjo's on ;) you might as well just move here Was actually thinking after I posted that she could try on both Banjos' rugs Oh and not only am I putting up with puppy photos on here- Winpara put up some new photos on her FB page and I WANT A BC NOW too! A BC, Aussie or Kelpie?

  21. Banjo (52ishcm Kelpie) fits his 22" with just a small amount of overhang. The same rug also fits a 50.5cm Aussie bitch perfectly. Banjo takes 55cm in his polar fleece rugs. So if you measure and your dog is just over a cut off size go for the smaller size RS, OzJen is still tossing up breeding Jenna and J is still tossing up breeding Abbey and/or Asha within the next year
  22. I would help too if I come down And leftovers on Tuesday at ACWA I have just ordered a new book though my work bookclub 600+ biscuit recipes Choc orange truffles anyone?
  23. Our sheltie litter was named after the Narnia books so Dawn Treader and Magicians Nephew. I was told Varda's litters theme was "The Way" and then we could choose so she is "Theway Todream". Or first Lappy litter the theme was "dragon" so our solo pup is "Dragonsong". Then our second litter was Power; so Power Play, Power of Love, Powers That Be, Power to Burn RS I am thinking of coming to watch on Sat if my mare doesn't decide to foal so I can bring my 22" coat down for you to try
  24. I can see you have a litter in the near future with your male dogs I always laugh when people ask me if I breed kelpies as well... I don't quite think Banjo is up to carrying a litter of puppies
  25. Exactly It is the same with Rodeo animals. I know a few horses who if not for going to a rodeo string they would be in a can of pal. For the 8 seconds they are expected to buck once a month or so (and they usually end up there as they like the buck when they aren't meant to ) they get treated like royalty. A good buckjumper is worth a fortune so it isn't in the rodeos best interest to not take the best of care of them Maybe we should stop riding horses full stop, and training our dogs to do obedience/agility? Hey I would much prefer not to work for my living as well Of course they should always be treated humanely however (I can't watch the video atm)
