  1. Gail is a good instructor so you should have fun I now need to take a yearling down to Oakford on Saturday around the middle of the day so it would depend on when your lesson is :D Silly girl was meant to go tomorrow but has a swollen knee today so will give her a couple of days to recover (and if it still isn't ok a different yearling will go to "boot camp")
  2. You go through Gidge to get to Toodyay Gidge townsite is a bit closer to Midland than Toodyay but not by much. Although the "suburb" of Gidge starts soon after you get to the top of the hill :D We are probably half way between Toodyay and Midland townsites Once you get past Noble Falls while driving to Toodyay wave to us RnH We are somewhere off to the right a few km from Toodyay Rd
  3. Depends on where you live. One of the best canine ophthalmologist in WA is not an ACES vet
  4. vCBR, who are you having a lesson from in Gidge? You could always come and visit my ponies afterwards ETA: Toodyay/Northam (either one ) are about 50-60 minutes from Midland. (Or 30 minutes from me for Toodyay and 45 for Northam )
  5. ((hugs)) so sorry to hear about your lCavalier. I know more about similar human diseases and with those there is a massive difference in onset and progression even within families. We have a genetic test to determine genetic status of one form of PRA in Finnish Lapphunds (prcd-PRA). There is more than one form though since not all Lappies affected with PRA give a positive result on the test and two clear dogs (or possibly a carrier to clear) bred together resulted in affected offspring! Which is why yeary ophthalmic exams from breeding stock is so important even after they are genetically tested.
  6. Personally with cheques I assume that they will be cashed either in the week before the show or in the week after. I do internet banking so it is easy to keep a track of what cheques haven't been cashed yet. I do get annoyed if it isn't cashed soon after the show though :D ETA: A lot of horse shows are going to EFT and I love it However I can understand that there are a lot more entries in a dog show usually than in a horse show therefore itwould be harder to keep a track of.
  7. Congratulations She is lovely I am really starting to like FC Retrievers. Really don't think I need another breed though
  8. She is probably the better one to bring Banjo is a good boy unless another dog growls (or barks) at him then it is game over So Varda is a lot more relaxing in large groups of dogs
  9. Since she shares my Birthday she must really be mine I may possibly be able to come Amazingly I have a free weekend so far over that weekend (except for Bowen treatments for myself and several of my furry family on the Friday )
  10. What day are you on? (I can't be bothered looking it up myself )
  11. vCBR, the agility/obedience is a completely different atmosphere from the showing I am sure I could find a ticket for you if you want free entry too
  12. Nigel no friends is better than having a friend who is bored so keeps bugging you about when you can go and do something Obedience is on the Sunday so you can come and visit us at the show area Obedience and Agility you can sit where you want within the designated area, however for showing you are given specific benches that your dogs must remain on when not competing or going to toilet breaks. There are quite a few rules for the show dogs as well, such as they are not allowed to be hidden from teh public view for long periods of time
  13. I haven't been to training since the Nationals or done anything with Banjo at home Really need to start again but things keep coming up and I have used any excuse not to do the trip to Canine
  14. RubyStar, I should be able to give you a ticket for the Sunday Actually, I could probably give tickets for most days We are members so get several passes for free, plus the ones for showing the animals which we don't use since we get entry anyway, plus we generally buy half price tickets for friends that can be used on any day. This year will be a fairly light year for me I think. Saturday (1st): Teams agility if I can be bothered organising a team Sunday: Dog breed with 3 Lappies and a Kelpie Monday: Individual agility Wednesday: Show Hunter classes for my horse. Saturday (2nd): Agility games? Although that is up to OzJen and J. I would normally do at least two days of breed showing with the horses too, but one of my breeds is the same day as the individual agility and the other is the same day as my Show Hunter classes.
  15. Thanks guys That is what I thought as that is the usual price, but I figured if I didn't ask it would have gone up
  16. Happy belated birthday to Toby and I am glad to hear Lincoln is home Can anyone with a Canine News handy please tell me the catalogue cost for the Winter Festival. The schedule on the DogsWest website doesn't mention catalogue and I want to post my entries today if possible.
  17. As has been said, bringing a live dog back is competely different to bringing a dead one back. You can quarantine a live one to make sure it doesn't carry any diseases. I had an interesting conversation with someone the other day about bringing humans back who have died overseas... have you actually considered what you/your family would do if you are in this situation? Basically you are looking at $50,000 or so to bring a body back but a fraction of that (in fact nothing but your flight!) if you cremate. It is something that everyone should discuss if you travel overseas.
  18. The DNA test is great if there is only one form of PRA in the breed and they can test for it. However I know with Finnish Lapphunds there is more than one form but only one has a genetic test at the moment. Therefore, yearly ophthalmic testing is needed on breeding stock. It frustrates me that people seem to think that a single DNA test means that you no longer need a physical exam. Even if there is only one form in the breed it is good to get an ophthal exam done as there are many other eye conditions in dogs.
  19. Hopefully you won't need it again, however you might find that Murdoch is easier to get to anyway LOL
  20. (((hugs))) vCBR and well done on going with your instincts! Lots of healing vibes being sent Lincoln's way too.
  21. That first paragraph is just wrong I can completey accept that you wouldn't inform beforehand if that was the case What do they do if you do the booking, then as an aside at the end just say that your assistance dog will be with you? Do they suddenly fill up or have a price incease then too? Oh and I think the same for people in wheelchairs as with assistance dogs Just from a point of view that it is easier to make an appropriate room/table available if you know in advance. But in neither case should they be disadvantaged because of it :D: But then I get annoyed if the Doctors that refer patients to us don't put down "important" information like the fact that someone is in a wheelchair (or has a severe intellectual disability - and they have requested tests that require good concentration!) as that does change what we can do testing wise where I work... but for some reason doctors don't find that information as important as us Hmm, I wonder if we will ever get an Assistance Dog visit us at work, that would be more fun than the prisoners who have to have a guard constantly handcuffed
  22. He is a cutey And looks like the Aussies are multiplying in your household
  23. If you had posted this yesterday I would have asked the ladies spinning Angora fleece today if they can do dog hair Maybe contact someone like the angora society or alpaca society and see if they could suggest someone
  24. I got 100% as well I like the last question though, brings up morally vs legally As I personally think that you should inform beforehand for hotels at least, and even for busy restaurants when making bookings, as it makes it easier for the staff to give a room/table that is dog friendly. Last time I went to a restaurant with a friend that had a guide dog puppy in training they were told when booking that the dog would be coming but then gave us a table in the middle of the restaurant They did quickly change us to a table against a wall though so the dog could have a bit more room without having to go under the table to avoid tripping up other patrons/waiters
  25. My guys have eaten a lounge suite Luckily it was a hand me down I didn't like, not one I bought so I didn't care quite so much
