  1. what a cute puppy! Abbey, you don't happens to have a video you can upload on youtube do you? what breed is she/he? Sorry I don't have any advice for you except puppy socks.
  2. Oreo, first of all it's very difficult to read if you typed with your CAPs on. If possible, in the first week or so, whenever you are home, try going out and coming into the house often to let him get used to the idea not everytime the sound of the main door is locked and unlocked, someone leaves and never comes back. Then if he is outside and whine/cry, don't go to him or even peep through the window. Just let him cry as long as he will, once he stops, count 10 seconds before you go outside let him see you but don't look. Then again count 10 seconds before you go and praise him CALMLY (not excitedly). Then go back inside again. Do this as often as you can. His cries should shorten in no time.
  3. wow you guys' dogs live a better life than I do!
  4. Hey feralpup, mind I ask, what really is a Dino bone, and recreational bone and any others? I know there are those I buy in pet shops which are smoked dry and then there are the fresh bones from butcher.
  5. kamazz, I had the opposite problem to yours, hehe. My last dog chewed when I was around, and very well behaved when I was out. He would catch my eye contact and grabbed something in front of me and happily chewing away. Such an attention seeking b**t*rd. LOL!
  6. quite true, my previous and current dogs did the same, if I hold it for them, the gulped it down. Leave them alone and they savour it.
  7. Hello snobbybobby, I do give meaty bones quite frequently but they are big, I don't have a big fridge. And if you have a dog that will chomp off most of a meaty bone in less than an hour and prone to put on weight, it can't be the everyday solution. I gotta give pup food rewards that can't be eaten too quickly thus a stuffed Kong (or marrow) ETA: I usually give the full pork shoulder bones, haven't try lamb flaps or legs yet, will give it a go soon. Kongs are great as it doesn't dirty the floor as much as a bone.
  8. This is hilarious! both the sulking and cat bed.
  9. I have a treat ball but gotta find the right sized kibble/treats to put in it! :D I have two types of kibbles, one type is too big so I got to set the ball to quite a big hole and it all fall out easily. The second one is too small and doens't fall out easily, end up I set the hole bigger as well. Only last ten minutes each round!
  10. how do you put grated carrot? Just stuff it full? Wouldn't that be too much carrot and too easy to get it out?
  11. These ones don't stink - they smell yummmmmooooo :D And they come in cool colours not just your stand red or black. Orbee Tough ORBO My boy loves to play with it, full of treats or not :D Thanks, will check it out. Do you know where can i find it besides online? I like to smell it first.
  12. It's about time, their designs are so limited. I won't buy one though, don't want mine to be encourage, as it is she is 'squeaky' enough already. :D
  13. The first time I discovered a Kong (or kong typed rubber toys), I thought it's the most boring thing on earth. It stank and I assumed tasted bitter since it's hard rubber. Why would any dog like it I hadn't a clue. There are various designs and boy they are expensive. I bought a big dental type in the shape of a dumbell, hollowed out. I used peanut butter and cream cheese but didn't get my pup interested. I put bikkies, icecubes, frozen kibbles etc and they only kept her occuppied for one minute. Now I discovered a new way of using it, stuffed with a big fat frozen chicken neck. Does your dog have a kong? How long does it kept him/her busy? What do you stuff in kongs? Let's share! :D
  14. Hey westiefan you want to try this on timber? - tiger balm. I discovered it by accident, just a little smear on the wood, my dog hates the smell. Or get the citronella. ETA : if it's done on the deck timber which is porous, the dog won't get to ingest it that much. Don't put it on none porous surfaces.
  15. No she's born on 5June, so by monday she'll be 13weeks. I got her when she's two days to nine weeks. I think my signature ticker is not too accurate. I didn't notice the structured part until you mention it now, yes my bad, I haven't really let her just be a puppy. I'm too careful about this critical period that I just want to do everything right. I'd be more relax now and bringing her out often from tomorrow onwards, going to a small park nearby to have a bit of sniffing. You guys' inputs have been a big help as usual. thx.
  16. She's only just done her second vaccination. I've had her for a month. She's been whiny since day one, then toned down. But she's bouncy and happy until 1.5 weeks ago started to get bored. I've taken advice from some of you and today gave her free time away from my watchful eyes in the backyard with her toys. I only peep occasionally without her knowledge to check if she is fine. Let's see how this goes.
  17. Appreciated! Yes indeed looks are deceiving, you should see her dark side from her eyes. She loves other dogs, those much bigger than her especially. I felt that I'm doing the right thing by ignoring the whining too. But I'm just caring for her well-being and want to find something for her to keep occupied.
  18. hmm that's an idea, thanks Benji's Mum... although unfortunately I'm surrounded by untrained barking SWFs, I estimated there are at least seven around my house, maybe I'll try to look further a bit. Hey Kristie, I live in the northwestern, right at the other end from you, I'd really love to but unless I have use of the car... I'm kinda bounded in my area for the moment, partner need the car regularly. Will your offer be kept open?
  19. Sorry I wasn't clear enough. When I said I crate her I actually means confining in a Pen. I don't use crate. She have a puppy kennel in her own play pen so she can walk and jump and play her toys. She has a puzzle food ball too which she loves when there's food inside. How do I exercise her mind? Already doing fetch+heel+drop during her training times, we are attending pup school. she is really happy around dogs and other people (like visitors). Maybe she don't like us anymore.
  20. About 13hours including bedtime. She's let outside more than 7-8 times a day, twice a day is just my personal time with her, 30-45mins each session. Then she get bored outside and want to come back in. The rest of the day she go around the house whining 'softly' or sit beside me and stare or chew my furniture. LOL! I thought I've gave her reasonably enough enjoyment? hmmmmmm..... Yep, I do let her explore, that's my fav, to observe her puppy stuff especially her pulling leaves off my trees. And yes I also rotate rawhides, chicken frames, recreational bones, kibble icecubes, iced robes, well these are the ONLY things she enjoys -FOOD!! I also don't understand this, that's why I came here for suggestions. She came from a farm. She
  21. StaffnToller, cazbear and Sky, She wasn't crated for long, about 9 hours at night and 4 hours in the day - two 2hrs each time, with break inbetween). Other times she's has free roam, with my company. On top of that I took her out to the yard twice a day for her personal time with me (training and playing). Other times I took her out for toilet and while she is at home, I'm around with her mostly in the same room, not too much attention though when I'm doing my work. My partner came home at six and gave her 1hour play/training time too! So I think she has a reasonably good life here!!
  22. No it shouldn't 't because I don't give her attention at all when she sulk or whine. Only when she is quiet and well behaved do her own thing I'd go and give her attention. But I admit this is one hell of a smart and dominant pup. Partner asked me why didn't I pick a dumb one?
  23. How long did yours lasted? I am just feeling for her, she just sulks whole day long, so far it's been over a week of sulking, now I am getting irritated by it.
  24. I need some suggestions. My three months pup has been whiny. I ignored her 99% of the time. Whenever she's out of her crate, she'd walk around bored, sat next to me and stared at me every minute with eyes saying "let's find something to do!". Fair enough, so twice a day I brought her out for play+training time. But she just laid/sat there. She is not very interested in anything, ball, toys, softtoys, kong, cardboard, paper, cloth, rope etc. I threw the ball she run half-hearted for three times max then sat there again. Even when I gave her treats she's not overly excited. She is a very bored pup, when I gave her cuddles or praised her, she looked uninterested. She walked around the house, whined a bit here and there at anything (eg. the wall), as if protesting "there's nothing to do here!" She is just bored Bored BORED!!! The only thing that will catch her attention is food but I can't give her food all the time? She's slim and pretty but a LAB so I don't want her to put on the weight. I have sent her to the vet, she is all healthy and vaccinated and well. Maybe my partner and I are just boring people  What can I do to make her happier, any suggestions? er...and bringing in another pup is out of the question edited for typo errors.
  25. faster way I am using now, use her food bowl. Before you feed her, hold bowl in hand, insist she sits. She doesn't? You walk/turn away. Then try again. First time she sits, praise her, give food. Next meal made her sit three seconds, then give food. Increase the seconds gradually. My pup sits minimum 10seconds before allowing food. If you have patience, when you put down the bowl, put your hand ON the side of bowl, once she's done, take away. This is a dominant act over her. Control her by her food, she cannot refuse this one. From then on keep asking her to sit for everything, let her earn it.
