I've had people ask if they can pat my dogs (ok good start) so I say yes and next thing thing I know they're picking them up! Sure they are small, and lucky they are friendly, but what are people thinking?!
-
My chis sleep in the bed with me, and i've never squashed them, but I don't let them jump off, they have a step by the bed to get down as it is too high for them. Thats probably the main issue for me

Raw Diet For Chihuahuas
honeychild replied to tropicalmango's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just from personal experience, i have found that feeding my chihuahuas raw is touch and go. They just dont seem to like it and it gives them the runs as i think its a bit rich. However if you start them from babies then you may have more success with it -
I am interested in this also. I have heard that they eat it for an upset stomach? But my two have a munch every time they go outside...

Vaccinate,or Not To Vaccinate Yearly.
honeychild replied to nicestman77's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
This is a topic that drives me crazy. I just want to do the right thing by my dogs but i do not know what that is. Both have had initial puppy vaccs, then 1 each year up to 2 years old. I dont know if i will continue, that might be the last one. My other dog who is 7 yrs has been vaccinated every year except last year, i am so conflicted and confused. -
I feed my chihuahuas 1/4 cup of advance kibble for breakfast, and about a bit less than half a slice of tuckertime for dinner. IMO, 3/4 of a cup is a bit too much, but your pup doesnt look fat, so maybe just cut down a bit if you think it is too much, mine would explode if i gave them that much! I sometimes also give them a bit of a snack at lunch (about a couple of teaspoons of kibble) just to keep their blood sugar levels up because one of mine is quite little. She looks like a pretty girl by the way :D

Kinda OT i know but this issue is close to home with me. Having an extra small dog does have its downside. I get people stare and shout comments about my 'rat' or ferret. They laugh and point, Its so rude. I cant walk my chi without being prepared for attention, positive and negative. Of course i wouldnt trade her for the world, but somehow i have had people ask if i want to sell her. It astounds me. Shes small so people seem to think that if they offer money then i would be prepared to sell her. Not for a million dollars.

I wouldnt think that too much meat would be the problem, the problem would be not enough of the other components of the diet...?
-
My vet told me that my girl would be great for breeding! She is 1.3 kilos!

I use people clippers. Works well for me i have found. Im sure groomers clippers are better but mine only cost $25 from myer so works out a lot cheaper than sending her to the groomer every couple of months. My grooming skills have a lot to be desired though lol

Puppy Bleeding From Anal Passage
honeychild replied to doggie_lover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would not be satisfied with that diagnosis. I wouldnt be able to think about anything else i would be so worried. I know i would be getting a second opinion for something that is potentially so serious. I dont think that anyone here was rude or attacking you, they just want what is best for the dog, as im sure you do. Hope that she is still doing well. -
I switched mine from Eagle pack to advance and they are doing much better on it. Higher energy levels, less poo, shinier coats. I guess its just about what your dogs do well on. I also feed tucker time.
-
Mine always eat a bit of grass. Most days they will chew a bit before they come inside.
-
Happened to one of mine once, it was an infected anal gland...

My maltese x has on occasion nicked chocolate from the table etc. We've always worried and panicked at first but nothing has come of it. Its not like id ever feed it to her on purpose but when she has had it by accident she has been ok. Shes only small too so just lucky i guess.

I was feeding EP holistic and changed over to advance for various reasons, even though i do feel that EP is a better quality food. The dogs coats improved out of sight and energy levels increased also. Better poop aswell!

Its disgusting isnt it. I used to work at a groomers as a dog washer, and i was completely shocked at the condition of some of the dogs that came in, and there was always a 'reason' or an excuse given. I also caught giardia there, so someones poor dog has had it but it has obviously gone unnoticed. Unbelieveable.

Thanks so much for your advice i'll definately be trying it! I must admit i have been getting pretty fed up lately, but i will perservere! Those suggestions sound like the kind of things that would work with her.
-
Thanks honeychild. I will definitely keep you posted with her progress, you'll have to do the same if you have a breakthrough too We can bounce ideas off eachother. Good luck! By the way, the chi in your avatar is gorgeous How did your chi go at obedience despite being a bit reluctant on the lead? She caught on quite quickly, eventually she started pulling out everything she knew before i even said it because she knew it would get her treats, She really seems to enjoy it, even if shes not the smartest cookie I had thought i might put her into agility just for fun when shes old enough, to burn off a bit of steam because shes soo full of beans, cant really see that happening anytime soon though he he

Yep thats interesting also. Instead of dragging behind, shes pulling in front and i have to drag her away from every little thing that she seems to get enthralled in, kind of uncontrollable (though shes only small so obviously i can actually control her) Ive done stop walking until she stops pulling, rewarding when shes walking by my side etc... I know it means something, just cant figure out what... It sounds like a dog that doesnt get out much, but that couldnt be further from the truth. Shes been on lead since she was a baby, puppy classes, obedience, the lot, I know it must have been something ive done wrong, i have no idea what though...
