  1. Hi everyone, Hopefully someone can help me here. First I bought a 'mini rotary tool kit' and tried it out on my cav. Nothing at all, and the sensation on his nails irritated him. I thought fair enough, it's cheap and not very powerful. Yesterday a friend lent me his dremel and I saw straight away it was much more powerful. I tried it out on Ollie again and it seemed to have no effect? He was slightly bothered by the sensation and his nails did not seem to be changing. I held the dremel perpendicular to his nails. He has quite long nails as he does not take well to cutting them at all and we put it off longer than we should. Any advice? TIA
  2. Wow great editing! :D love the kid shots, they look high key
  3. I'll give you the best of what I know, not being an expert and all If you shoot in manual mode you select what you expose, so when you correctly expose your subject it may result in the background becoming darker or lighter. Manual exposure works by trying to get the light metre in your viewfinder to sit on zero by changing the apperture, shutter speed and ISO settings. In photoshop a very common and effective technique is vignetting- darkened corners. This 'highlights' the main subject, drawing your eye to it.
  4. I would definitely check out this site. It's great, very simple and you learn a lot. I have a Nikon D50 which I bought second hand with the twin kit lenses and I really can't fault it as a beginner camera. There are really so many options and it's becoming very difficult to go wrong with whatever you choose. Canon and Nikon are highly recommended of course, but you can also speak to many happy Pentax and Sony owners.
  5. No problem royalla :p Glad you like it
  6. If you go to 'Window' in the top tab and select 'Layers' you can make every different photo a new layer. PM me if you need more help!
  7. Hi Royalla, what do you think of this? Not sure what you'd like written on it.
  8. Hmm I'm sure many people will tell you, don't put a $200 lens on a $1000 body!
  9. Nikon has its very own nifty fifty, the 50mm f/1.8. Depends where you shop, you can find it for something like $100 second hand and up to $200 new. It has its advantages over the 18-55 such as being faster, way better in low light and indoor situations and generally clearer shots. It has no zoom at all though.
  10. Hmm the pricey option: get a speedlight.
  11. No problem at all! Keeps me from doing work
  12. Ooh I love the second one! That red is too enticing (eh.. it's not meant to be, is it?)
  13. Hey I whipped this one up pretty quickly so I hope you like it, Krya
  14. Gimp is the free photoshop all the experts use
  15. Manual seems kind of big and daunting at first, but it's not so bad! My biggest tip for you to is to always pay attention to that exposure meter because otherwise you can get some really big duds. If you have any questions feel free to ask or better yet, ask one of our more experienced members
  16. Hmm I'm no expert at all but if you try shooting in manual mode you could probably control this problem more. Or even A or S modes where you only have to choose which Aperture or Shutterspeed you want and the camera does the rest for you. In manual mode there's an exposure meter (think this is what it's called) which helps you determine the correct exposure. Just point it at the sky and toggle the settings until the line is on 0. The number line thing is what I'm talking about, which is what you'll see in the viewfinder on manual mode.
  17. I took these from the backyard through the evening, I think they are fitting...
  18. Thanks chezzyr I'm very happy with it and (hopefully) can only get better from here.
  19. Can't figure out if this one is underexposed or just right? Must say I'm pretty happy with it
  20. Thanks, I'll give it a go! Thanks! Ahh, a limited crowd is it? I've got to say I was very canon inclined until I held the beautiful D50. It's just so easy to use! I've got the 18-55mm and the 55-200mm but not sure how I'm going to replace them in the future, but they're great for now.
  21. That's really helpful (and easy to understand), thanks Ashanali! I'll try that
  22. Thanks! Now to find OTHER things to photograph!
