  5. RIP Darling Old Girl She had a beautiful home and a brave owner when it mattered most Kaz.
  6. Where abouts in Victoria are you ? I may know someone who is able to come and help you out a bit
  7. Thanks Benji's Mum - I don't really want to get into a physical confrontation with this horse, what starts off as disrespectful play could turn very nasty if he moved to anger or fear. He is the type of horse that will do things for you if he trusts you and you ask firmly but nicely. I use a crop as an aid when riding, but would be reluctant to use it when he rears, as when he throws himself up or to the side, he is too strong for me to counter and correct by swinging him around or pulling the lead. If I was to smack his front legs he would just pull away. And if 1 tonne pulls away, you go with it or you let go. One farrier that saw him (sadly we have gone through a few ) wacked him under the belly when he moved, and the horse just got angrier and more afraid - and tossed the farrier like a peanut. You are so very correct there Lilli You DON'T want to argue with him . You just don't argue with a tonn odd of animal , you're always bound to lose . Hence you try to show them the 'easy way' of doing things
  8. Tony has given some sound advice Lilli The only thing I would suggest different is to not use your lunge rope for this . A 12 foot training lead is ideal and indeed , is what it was designed for . It gives you enough lead to send your horse out onto a small circle and still short enough to give a quick reprimand should it be needed . You indeed want the horse to realise that it's much easier to do the right thing , hence the reward is standing still . You may find he's content to go around in circles for 30 minutes and it would appear you are getting nowhere , take heart , he will get it ! And you'll be surprised how quickly alot of horses 'get' it. I use the send out on a circle and I also use the 'send them backwards' approach . At the sign of any unwanted behaviour the horse is driven backwards , fast . Then stand and allow the horse to stand and let things sink in a bit . Walk off again , at the first ( it is imperative to have your timing as good as you can get it - instant release of pressure the moment the horse 'softens' , instant 'send off' -be it round or backwards- the instant the horse misbehaves ) sign of the 'shirts' send him off again . I dont pertain to any 'one' method with the horses . I have studied Parelli and Monty , as well Australian Natural , I take from each what works best and add a dash of me . The natural approach is really just common horse sense wrapped up in a marketing box
  9. Well it is spring after all But you're right , really no excuse for such a display , not when complete with 'shadow boxing' . Is it only the once now he's done it ? Do you use a rope halter ? If you dont , invest in one asap . And as Cosmolo says , you dont want a flimsy , flap around lunge rope . You need something 'soft' but still managable . Is he aware of 'your space' 'his space' . Is it well enforced ? Do you/have you used any natural methods during his training ? Sorry for more questions but need to know a bit more
  10. PM if you like . But I will say this , rearing is the one thing I don't tolerate very well . It is often just an 'escape' route for a horse . ie ; Dont want to = I'll just go up instead . Rearing whilst being led suggests a respect issue . It can mean other things as well ; excitable surrounds etc . Would need to know more about horse and situation
  11. Thanking you Vehs , they are similar to my old ones , but not quite . But will look harder because they're awful close
  12. Just edited my rather cranky and pointed reply to an obviously nasty and cranky post made above. uncalled for and I took offence. Dont care who you are or what youve done....what you have just shown is not respect..... Posting it in THIS thread lacks respect . I was not rude nor was I nasty , but hell I can be . Deserves to know ?? why the hell does she deserve to know?? She went looking for a Pit Bull , she found a Pit bull , she found it all TOO HARD with a Pit bull and then she LIED to many people to get herself out the mess. She deserves nothing .
  13. Grumbles , could you please PM me ? I am about to post in the BSL forum for this exact reason but also need to speak you regarding something else . It would also of been nice if you had PM'd me rather then posting here in Dolce's thread . No-one else will speak to you of the reasons , it is not thier place . It is called respect in alot of languages .
  14. Yes , a tad different but thought why start 2 different posts OK , will do the flea's first . We have suddenly been absolutely bombarded with them !! Have not had a flea problem since moving here to the new place 6 months ago .Now , last night I had TWO jump on me whilst sitting on the lounge , the kidlet has numerous bites ( and he's allergic to the rotten little suckers) and Chop is scratching like mad . I have to be extremely careful what I use on or around Chop as he reacts to most flea products , he comes up in hives . So before I attack him with a vengance , I want to get rid of them everywhere else as well . So any idea's for a decent bombing expedition ? And also that doesn't cost an arm and a leg ? Now , nails . Chops need doing . My old trusty ( probably from the dark ages ) set of clippers finaly died I have not ben able to find a pair remotely like them anywhere . They were rubber handled , ergo..ergonom...oh kind to your hands or something shaped with a 'guard' type thing to apparently stop you from hurting your dog ( well I never did any damage lol ) . They wern't ovely big either . They actually reminded me a bit of pliers ? So I'm after reccomendations on 'safe' new sets . Thanks guys
  15. RIP Pip. So sorry for your loss dogmad . At the end she had you and that is most important .

  17. Oh! Rastus.....that is just simply beautiful . And thankyou again Thanks to everyone.....
  18. No! No no no ! Perrin , dont you feel bad !! You did good , you did real good . If you hadn't brought her to our attention things could've been so very much worse....
  19. Thankyou so much everyone for your kind thoughts and words . I have put a post in the BSL forum to her . I promise to get round to answering all the very kind Pm's soon . And as for the others ? They are not worth our time nor our effort. They hurt at first , but after some help from some friends ,all of you here , I now know who is the better and stronger person . Does not ease the sadness or the guilt . But makes me feel a hell of alot better knowing I am not as low as them.
  20. A sensible decision was made in consultation with those who helped rescue Dolce to give this girl her wings. Dolce had a very strong guarding instinct and coupled with the acute stress of displacement and fitting into a new family, was having a hard time finding her place in the world. In rescue sometimes they are just so mentally broken that they cannot be mercifully repaired. Thankyou for your thoughts guys . And to all the kind PM's as well - and to the few others ? well it wasn't a choice you would of wanted . It's all still a bit of a daze....
  21. Enjoy Your Wings Sweet One. There is no longer need to fear nor protect . Just run free and happy knowing you will forever have a place in many hearts. I am so sorry for the way your life played out . Sorry for any hurt you endured . But I am most sorry that I failed you . You will forever have a special place here amongst my memories..... Forgive me....
  22. Certainly not wanting to be atagonistic here at all..... but , My dogs sleep on my bed (well used to before I got my bootiful new BLACK & gold brocade bed set-Chop hair and black is not a good look ) and I have NO pack authority problems .Never had them at all come to think of it
  23. No words I say here can possibly help the breaking hearts of her family . But just wanting to somehow let them know our thoughts are with them. RIP Precious One - No More Pain
