  1. Good news Greyseas.... just try not to put weight on him too quickly after about 3 months of age - unfortunately that can cause issues in the breed itself..... There is an article written by Karen Hedberg on the national golden retriever council website in relation to diet and growth, have a good read of that. http://ausngrc.org/index.asp?ID=39 Good luck with your little guy.
  2. Ignoring the food/bones for the moment, if you think Shelley may have a hip problem, I'd be getting xrays done - I'm sure someone can suggest a good place to get them done that won't cost you the earth. Atleast if you know she has a problem you can manage it with supplements or other means.... IF she doesn't have a problem, x-rays showing this will put your mind at rest. A friend had to have the balls of the hips of his dog removed when he was 5 years old, couldn't afford a total reconstruction, and couldn't PTS. Dog was still going strong at about 10 or so, but went downhill soon after that.
  3. Yep - just no idea if they are normally an expensive trailer
  4. Just wondering what you would expect to pay approx, for a basically new 4 berth trailer - but with some minor hail damage?
  5. My male golden puppy was about 7kg when we got him at 8 weeks. I was also thinking a cross, but with a spitz.... poodle would probably fit though. I wouldn't go by the colour, some goldens look very white as a puppy, even the light gold ones. My mid gold puppy bitch has two whitish stripes down each side of her, just means they will be a lighter colour. Henry had a big white patch on the top of his bead, very noticeable.... it's now blended completely and you can't see it anymore. Henry at 8 Weeks.... and 7kg... Please ignore my dirty jumper lol As others have said, I would also take the puppy back and get a refund. The breeder is atleast doing the right thing by giving you the option of a puppy from another litter. I personally would go with a different breeder though, there are about 200+ GR breeders listed on DOL... Ons... Tildy is gorgeous... love the stride she has going there.
  6. I didn't enter Hillsborough, but if breed numbers have come - can someone please tell me how many goldens are entered on Sat... am & pm. Thanks :)
  7. Only know some of the Gundogs... BIG - Gordon. RUBIG - wei Baby - Golden I have a catalog at home if you still need it after 5pm then PM me.
  8. Alyosha, our kids must be about the same age, Faith's first show in Minor is tomorrow night.... her last show in baby tonight... she's growing up
  9. Indy had a bad tooth removed at 12 - no issues with the removal under anesthetic. I second the vet. Unfortunately he had to be PTS due to an oral cancer only a few months later.

  11. Fiasco. Yes definately will get darker as he gets older. My eldest golden was very cream as a puppy, he's now a light gold colour. Have a close look at his ears, the edge of the ear should be darker than the rest of it, this is the colour, or about the colour he will end up. Goldens shouldn't be red either.... the standard says, Any shade of cream or gold, but niether red nor mahogany. I don't think breeders are necessarily breeding more cream, there are still plenty of goldens of all shades in the rings. The European lines seem to have more cream. It may also have something to do with the colour genetics and the mode of inheritance.... which I don't know much about... especially with shades of the one colour. I don't think breeders are going out of their way to breed more cream, I think that they are choosing the best dog for their bitch and if they happen to be putting two creams together etc then so be it. I think once people start being colour biased the breed will suffer. I admit I had a preference for gold when I first got into goldens, but now I don't care, I have seen some gorgeous cream dogs, but I have seen some equally gorgeous gold ones. Fiasco... where's your puppy from? you can PM if you prefer
  12. Talien. Definately a golden. I have a feeling puppy may be from American lines. There is a QLD breeder who focus's on them, actually I think there may be two. They usually have very gold goldens. Cream isn't a recognised colour in the USA, so you will see some dark goldens. Have a look at some American Golden retriever websites, they can get VERY dark.
  13. Wonderful to see an IW do well under strong Hound Group competition - could someone please tell me if it was Kaj ~ thanks ! Have just had my question answered - yes it was Kaj - just had an email from his owner - good entry for our breed - 12 and 228 entries in the Hound Group - Well done !!!! Edited to add - they got home to bed at 4am - The IW was a gorgeous dog. Absolutely devine.
  14. Hi Fiasco - firstly Welcome. Come and join us in the golden retriever thread under breed sub forums. The change of ownership papers that you got, did Dogs QLD on the front and were they Orange? Or was it micro-chip papers. You should receive pedigree papers, but these may be sent later to you. Sometimes papers aren't available at the time of pick-up due to the registering body being a bit slow to process them. Yes, Limited registration is different to registering with your council. You will still need to do this
  15. Dogs NSW Christmas Show BIG Toys - Pekingese BIG Terrier - Cairn Terrier BIG Gundog - American Cocker BIG Hounds - Irish Wolfhound BIG Working - Sheltie BIG Utility - BIG Non-Sporting - Dalmatian Don't know what got BIS as I left at about 1.30am and they were just starting GS I think the Utility was a Giant Schnauzer (sorry if that is spelt wrong, too tired to look it up). BIS was the American Cocker. RU BIS was the Schnauzer. Baby ESS A Keeshond got something, I don't know what class it was, sorry. It was 3:30 by the time we got home!!!
  16. I haven't bred anything... yet... hopefully in the next year if all goes to plan... BUT... I would say, being involved in showing, atleast initially is the BEST way to learn the ropes, learn what your dog has and doesn't have in regards to the conformation standard of the breed, get the contacts and see the dogs in the flesh and find one which will compliement your bitch. A GOOD mentor is also invaluable!!! Preferably the breeder of your bitch. The breeder of my bitch isn't my mentor, she doesn't show much. I am lucky though that I have a number of well respected and experienced breeders that are very happy to help me along the way, both in the breed of my girl and in another breed that I have.
  17. No, Atleast in NSW, ownership goes by the council as in local shire council registration... not Canine Council rego..... but I'd be getting the papers in your name nonetheless.
  18. There are some words you can't use... I think Of might be one of them.... could be wrong though - can't remember
  19. One of my goldens has 5 words in his name!!! They should be transferred into your name. Has he/she signed the back of the papers, if so, you can fill in the change of ownership and send off to dogs vic with the required fees and transfer into your name.... IF you want the name changed though, you'll have to go through the breeder, no idea how that works, ring dogs vic and see what they say.
  20. I didn't enter... just wondering how many goldies are entered though?
  21. After not having an entire bitch for YEARS.... when my wei first came into season it was a bit of a shock at how much blood there was.... it will get worse before it gets better unfortunately. Hopefully her season won't be that long.... with Willow, she bled for a good 3 weeks.
  22. Depends on what she looks like. Henry for example is only 7.5 months old, I have pulled him for a while to let him put some weight on, but, I personally think he looks a bit ridiculus in minor anyway as he is so big, I will probably just put him in puppy when I start entering him again. With Aria... I'd probably put her in junior until it clashes with Archer, then I'd be inclined to move one up to Aust Bred, depending on the numbers of goldens you have up there.... Numbers are dropping off here for summer. Today the first dog was a puppy dog and the only one in the class... most classes had only 1 or 2, it's usually a fair bit more than that.
