  1. Jasper did a lovely calm cast for me on sunday.. i was so happy ! He worked the sheep so calmly straight up... we started on the driving... thankfully he understands what Walk Up means and when I said Push.. he moved up quicker.. so that is helping. But we have something new to work on now as just doing the A course was getting boring as he does it so easily !
  2. teaching stop can be fun!!! NOT !! LOL my instructor has us hunt the dog down and roll him over enforcing the stop if the dog does not do it when told. It works really well, Jasper was quite hard headed with stop and after doing this a few times he really got the idea that when I say stop, I mean it !!! If the dog persists with not stopping, enforce the stop as above and then just walk out of the yard. Dog does not get to play unless it does as told hard lessons for some! Shamus was easy as he had obedience training before I started him on sheep, but Jasper had nothing and had to learn from scratch.
  3. Thanks Superminty :p Jasper really is a nice boy... even though i breed show kelpies, his type is what i prefer and what I will be trying to continue to breed, I love the working kelpie ! He is holding balance much better now, not covering so much, although he is worse when working the fence line. When i work the stock in the open... i just walk, and he does the job of keeping the sheep with me! I dont even have to know where he is because i can see from the sheep what he is doing and I can give a simple command to correct if needed, he is such a natural balancer... sigh.. now to teach him to drive.. which we will start soon! By the time trials start up again i would love for him to be at least trained to Inter level in A course! I would also love to introduce him to ducks sometime as well. with Jasper busting when i took the lead off, we started by walking in the yard off lead and if he took off, i would put a stop on him and walk back out... only had to do it a couple of times until he realised he doesnt get to play until i say so. I can now walk out in the big paddock and he will follow behind off lead until i give him the signal to fetch the sheep... Also, what do you mean by flanking commands when you are teaching to drive? Jasper knows, Bye, Away, Out, Walk in and Stop...
  4. Good luck ! I hope you and Quinn have heaps of fun!
  5. Another couple of him training out in the A course arena... He is now putting stock through the A course obsticles easily and we are starting to teach him to fetch... hopefully some more video of that soon..
  6. Jasper's first PT run... 6th September. I was having all sorts of problems with him splitting out as soon as I took the lead off.. but fixed that by just walking into the pen with no lead! Amazing! I hope this link works ok... first time I have put one up from FB http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=453...?v=435469912388
  7. Hi guys, I havent been on DOL for awhile but a friend sent me this Topic and I thought I would share what I am doing with Jasper. I think most of you will remember him as my gorgeous singleton pup born Easter last year... He is excelling in the showring and is now 18 months old!! Well at 14 months I introduced him to sheep, not expecting him to do much. He is very well known for his power naps at shows... everytime you look at him he is asleep!! LOL Well, he nearly left me speechless... he is so keen and confident with the sheep. He got his PT title easily after a couple of months training.. with comments from judges about how well he naturally rates stock for such a novice dog, and my trainer says he is the best bench bred kelpie he has seen work stock !!! Im so happy with this boy and Im having heaps of fun with him... Here are a couple of pics of him the first time he saw sheep!
  8. He is gorgeous Skyehaven ! Should compliment your wonderful showteam nicely :p
  9. i think it looks nice for winter... as long as the skirt is longish... like to the knees or longer...
  10. Yes I wear Jeans !!!! Usually black or grey, I also have a purple pair. And I do have blue denims I will wear, but most of my jeans have bling or embroidery on them and I always wear them with a dressy top. I will mostly wear the blue jeans at Ag shows. A friend of mine always wears blue jeans with a nice button up long sleeve top, that is just her and I couldnt imagine her in anything else. She shows cattle dogs and it suits her dogs. I also know another lady who wears jeans when showing her cattle dogs too. When you have Australian Working Dogs, I think jeans can work very well, as long as you dont look like you have just stepped off the farm.
  11. The two colours are definately different... red is at is states red... the chocolate is much darker, they can be almost black. They have darker pigment and a true chocolate tends not to fade in the sun like a red will (they will go orange to yellow if left out too much) Obviously red can get darker and look almost chocolate, but pigment will normally tell them apart.
  12. Aww he is so cute !! To be honest... the level of exercise will depend on the dog himself.. and sometimes i think people buy a 'working' dog and think they have to excercise the hell out of it. They can actually make them into high energy, highly strung dogs (ie, the more exercise, the fitter the dog, the more exercise it takes to tire them out!)... just work out what is best for your pup. My kelpies are very laid back and dont require the level of work some people think they would. Kelpies fit very easily into people's lifestyles.
  13. TJ I have replied on your other thread There are no show Kelpie breeders in WA. There are only 4 entire showlines dogs that I am aware of and two are males and one of the females is too young yet Trinity is the only other bitch in WA (mother to the young girl). Send Kelpiesrule a PM as she bred Trinity and so will know if Trin is being bred again anytime soon I do know of a litter in SA though that may have pups still available. Otherwise there are several working kelpie breeders. I havent popped into hear for so long ! I believe Sandria is hoping to repeat that mating she had with Trinity, but Im not sure as to when.. maybe later this year or early next year there will be pups in WA again...

  20. I sent a 4 year old dog with her 1 year old daughter to sweden several years ago. They were crated for 30 hrs. The lady at the other end said they came out of the crates bouncing around, all excited and happy. So no worries or damage done. I have also sent a puppies to France, Finland and America.
  21. My little girl Sirena finished her baby class with a BABY IN SHOW a couple of weekends ago! She had also picked up 3 Baby in Groups previously.
