  1. Her urination is not affected. The skin folds were trapping bacteria and causing dermatitis infections which then led to UTIs. She would get sores from licking it so much.
  2. Yeah, me too! At the vet's tomorrow I'll ask if they had to push around a lot or something. Daina did bruise a lot after her desexing though so she may just bruise easily.
  3. Today's photos, 4 days post-op. It looks really good today. The swelling is so minor and it looks almost like a normal vulva! She hasn't seemed bothered by it at all today and is fully convinced she should be allowed to wrestle and sprint around  From behind while standing (her poor butchered tail fur ) Lying on back I wish I had taken a photo when we brought her home because it looked sooooo awful and swollen. I'm too much of a softie and didn't want to annoy her though. Such a huge difference in a matter of days. Today is also the first day she hasn't been nibbling her front leg where they shaved for needles and things. I've been applying calamine lotion multiple times a day but, up until today, whenever she had her bucket off she was trying to satisfy the itch. Tomorrow she has a follow-up appointment at the vet :)
  4. Just took a photo while she's snoozing. Swelling has gone down and the bruising is slowly fading. This is how she's lying a lot of the time so it mustn't be too painful for her, otherwise she wouldn't have her legs against it.
  5. I like that icepack idea although Daina is spending most of her time lying down rather than sitting. I would really like to see the album, thank you!
  6. If it is an inverted vulva and the dog isn't desexed then definitely encourage them to let her have a heat or two, if they are planning to desex her.
  7. Raffikki, did your girl stop being bothered by the stitches? Daina is so annoyed by them but I'm hoping as the healing begins they won't be as uncomfortable. They'll be in for 10-14 days. Here are photos from this morning: Standing - can't see anything but swelling from this POV Lying on her side with leg lifed And this was her drugged face when we brought her home
  8. Yes oso. Unfortunately it was never noticed when she was younger and she was desexed without ever having a heat. For a while I was very annoyed that the vet who desexed her hadn't picked it up because we would have let her have a few heats to see if it corrected itself, but what's done is done. She's doing really well. She's obviously very uncomfortable but I'm just encouraging her to sleep all the time. She is eating, drinking and toileting so that's good. She starts her tablets tonight; antibiotic and painkiller + anti inflammatory. Starting tonight as she had injections of everything yesterday. Will post photos soon. The area is very swollen and has a lot of bruising but I actually think it looks quite good.
  9. The surgery went very well and she's home now. I don't want to bother her at the moment so will take photos tomorrow. It is currently swollen and a bit bloody but looks so much better. They shaved off so much fur though! The vet nurses loved her and said she was the best behaved of all the patients they had today. :) She's had some dinner and is currently sleeping. Muddy wants to get to her SO badly but he is a nurse dog (always licking any cuts or blisters we have) so he won't be going near her for more than nose-sniffs for a little while.
  10. Thanks, CC! Dropping her off at 8am :)
  11. Daina is a 6 year old desexed female Pembroke Welsh Corgi. At the start of the year we took Daina to the vet because her vulva looked mucky. It was then discovered that she has an inverted vulva (also called hypoplastic, recessed or juvenile) and the mess was vulvar fold dermatitis as well as a UTI. We have tried antibiotics, anti-inflammatory injections, topicals and daily cleaning but the infection is very stubborn and she is uncomfortable, so tomorrow she is having surgery to correct the inversion (vulvoplasty). I am writing this post because when I was researching, there was not a lot of information about the surgery and people's experiences. This is one website I did find to be helpful. I will be updating this post including photos of her progress in case it will help somebody else one day. Before: Lying on her back She is standing in this photo and I have spread the skin to pull open the vulva a bit. You can see some muck in there. And the rest of her
  12. Years ago my girl had a cut on her nose from a dog bite and I was also worried about pigment and scarring. I did nothing special; just treated it like any other wound, and it has healed completely with no scarring. You can't tell there was ever a cut.
  13. We often talk about accidentally ingesting dog hair but my poor Daina seems to accidentally ingest MY hair. There have been a few times when she's come running to me, panicked, because she's done a poo and it's dangling by a hair that isn't all the way out yet  Human to the rescue!
  14. You would have seen Sax then! I love him, he is just such a perfect looking Vall.
  15. Vehs, have you thought about a pembroke corgi? A lot of people tend to own GSD and Pembrokes. In fact Ish has Pembrokes and GSD! They are very similar in terms of temperament and trainability.
  16. Ranga if you saw a vallhund, a cardigan corgi and a pembroke corgi all side by side you'd see that they all look very different! :)
  17. Valls are fantastic! Mine was incredibly sweet and loving, an excellent watchdog, loved other animals but an exceptional rat hunter. She took a while to allow new people to be her friends, she wasn't the kind of dog to be insta-friends with everyone. She did love to bark though, about as much as my corgis. They shed, perhaps slightly less than pembroke corgis. She was highly food motivated and easy to train but she was stuuuuuuuuuuubborn! With my corgis, they may be reluctant to do something but if I continue to ask then they will. With my vallhund, you could ask her to do something until the cows came home but she wasn't going to do it unless there was something making it worth her energy  I'll definitely own more in the future.
  18. I love my vebo crate. It is well made, sturdy, easy to clean and very reasonably priced.
  19. Ah, the beauty of owning a breed with legs so short that when my boys squat, the stream couldn't hit their legs if they tried!
  20. It's a shame he hasn't gone back to normal but how great that he can move around and enjoy life :)
  21. That's looking good; it'll heal in a jiffy! Does he have any lasting effects from his back? Or is he completely recovered?
  22. My dogs don't react at all when I put peroxide on. I've used it on myself and it honestly doesn't sting much at all. Yonjuro, I'll have to check the strength for you.
