Doesn't Want To Go To Bed
persephone replied to penstar1000's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
may I just say that - if you need to chase your dog around a room for anything , some recall training may be a useful tool ;) being picked up and put into the laundry is obviously not pleasant ..and each time it happens just reinforces her idea that bedtime = unpleasant things . One suggestion is that she gets a tasty treat..something VERY special ... that she adores, but gets only at bed time . a chicken/turkey wing ? A few cubes of cheese? half a frankfurt, in cubes ? a half slice of bread spread with peanut butter ? Our dogs would almost jump off a cliff into a fire for peanut butter . Associate it with cuddles & relaxation first .... then if she LOVES it , and will sit/come to you eagerly ..then show it to her and be all pleasant and rewarding for going to bed. Just my 2 C worth... -
Oh..I misread ..I thought you wanted to know WHEN he was 4 weeks sorry. saw the photo :) looks as if he won't be really scruffy ... just my opinion . The breeders, being first time ..may not have noticed the very long toenails ;) pups and mum are usually more comfy if nails are clipped a bit ... It's a cute face :D

photo didn't show ... what are others like from the breeder? It would be just about impossible to tell you exactly .. why is 4 weeks your target age? For photos, or ?

I would advise another vet ,perhaps, a sample of the discharge taken and identified- so that then, hopefully , the correct treatment can be found .... if the condition has not been named - then any treatment is only for symptoms ......
-
I think a bit more detective work needs to be done ,as you have had two dogs with similar symptoms ..... Breeding /feeding/ bathing/ things used around the home - insecticides, cleaning stuff, bedding. Garden - mulch, fertiliser, sprays . vaccinations/heartworm treatment , etc . Are there things in common ?

will she eat stronger smelling food like roo? Try her with some nature's gift , as well. Sardines? beef heart ? don't mix anything else in , or make a big deal of it , and just use one thing at a time . If she just eats meat and some bone for a little while it won't hurt her . IF she gets into the habit of eating ..THEN start adding things like veges ....? if she eats chicken wings--- try her on turkey wings as well. Chicken with bone in is not a bad meal at all :) I'm wondering if her sense of smell not working may be part of it? *wonders why a breeder would pass on a puppy who was not eating properly*

Depending on her worrywart status - My consideration would be that a puppy is kinda unknown .An adult's temperament /physical state can be seen before it lives with a new owner ... -
Training Out An Unwanted Behavior
persephone replied to hankdog's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
So dealing with the OP's question, you never trained out an unwanted behaviour. Rather, you trained in the one you wanted. Best possible approach but not what the OPs question is asking. How would you have dealt with an experienced sheep chaser? yes. Good planning! -

Rottie or Black lab :) -
..At first thought ..it seems to me the male is getting over excited ,and redirecting this onto the female ? Not so much 'playing' as doing what he does ,instead of jumping up & down and screaming? It may be necessary to do some work on desensitising him(them) to your approach, and to the sound of car on grid ....and the help of a professional would probably make this easier.. just my thoughts :)

Not a showie ..but I would imagine there are lots of ways a person's confidence could be shot down .... perhaps sports, or therapy accreditation ? -
at 12 weeks ..she shouldn't really be going on "long" walks , and should be having several very short training sessions each day ..plus training inside being calm . ;) the more walks/running on teh beach ,and playing she gets - the fitter and more active she will learn to be ! The methods listed are all good..if NONE of them work ..you may need professional help ...be CALM around this pup .... give her lots of mental exercise ,,in 5 minute bursts .... and provide her, in a safe spot away from other dogs and kids, ..with large bones for chewing.

the answers are probably in this thread :) do another read..have a look at the links . How old ,and what breed puppy?

My, how we've grown!!! We are almost snarky teens .....and have LEGS :) We are learning stuff, like how to remove prickles from feet ..and how to give 'the eye' to those Apostle Birds...

Head pressing ... from memory, this can happen with brain disease , or toxicity, or tumours . please mention this to a vet ,and get some bloods done to check for liver function , etc .
