  1. Poor old girl- she must be exhausted:( Best of luck at the vets tomorrow.
  2. Don't guide dogs have puppy walker folks who help (puppy raising officers, from their website) ? It seems to me that instructions from them would be better , as the methods would be approved by them, and be a constant thing.... Email or phone teh GD people and ask them these questions... it's their pup after all Gosh- times change... treats were an absolute NO NO for guide dog pups/dogs in training way back when. PS: it only takes a second to sniff up a parvo bug ;)
  3. Sounds a good morning! ;) He's a smart boy ...

    Help!

Welcome ;) What did the breeder say? The vet didn't notice anything when you took him for his first vet check? If not, I would suggest making an appointment . The quicker he is checked , the quicker you know what needs to be done, I guess.
  5. I hope you have taken this poor old girl to the vet. ;)
  6. ..someone's probably done a study on it, somewhere ....
  7. jaxx's buddy - same here- with all our working dogs and pets over the years... about 40 years that I remember- there have been many dogs- and never any trouble .
  8. ?? less exercise/muscletone maybe? Stress- I would imagine stress would alter the muscles somewhat .. which may exacerbate a problem? Interesting concept .
  9. Good experiment opportunity Lucky cat , I think..... Hope the pegleg doesn't get stuck in his ear when he scratches
  10. ..and I guess it's like everything else- sometimes, genetics decrees that construction of something does not go as it should- and openings are angled wrong/muscles are a bit weak or something.... and there will be a problem .
  11. Hi - If your dog has a possible allergy, with DRY skin... I would not be bathing him ... maybe in plain warm water,if he smells... malaseb is used to treat skin conditions/infections where the skin gets oily and smelly and itchy.. it is wonderful when used under vet advice, for specific conditions. as you are going to see a dermatologist- and they need to see the dog's skin 'au naturelle' it would be wise to NOT bath/oil./ etc at all . When you do any of these things , it will change the appearance/function of the skin, and may well hide symptoms that the derm. needs to make an accurate diagnosis

    Harness

Hi- why not get a trainer to SHOW you how to get your pup to walk as you want? Understanding WHY the pup is pulling/walking fast is a BIG help , and then having someone alongside you showing you what to do is a fantastic way for you to gain proper control of your dog It's a bit like stickytaping a cracked hose in your car engine- getting it looked at by someone who knows is a MUCH safer option
  13. Hmm.. I believe that if a dog has a diet which is rich in bones/fibre..plenty of exercise and lots of liquid- they should never need their AG's expressed. A diet which leads to smooth softish motions- passed with no effort does NOT apply enough pressure on the glands to squeeze them out, IMO. I like seeing my dogs having to work a bit at toileting..... With all the dogs we have had here over many many years- I think there have been only once or twice that AG's had to be done...and I am talking dozens of dogs ... I must admit to being puzzled as to why it has almost become the norm that the glands are expressed frequently.... and puppies are having problems now as well? While that vet has the right idea... I think with dogs being fed the junk they are a lot of the time.. it could be dangerous to leave glands unchecked... impacted /infected ones are very painful and nasty.. The glands will often express when very full, with extra exertion.. also if a dog gets a fright- the glands empty in a rush.
  14. Hi- welcome. I really don't believe your 8 week old is 'dominating' the other animals ... she is a BABY and babies PLAY. They need to run/jump/pounce/nip/roll...and warm fluffy things that move flick this switch 'ON'. The pup has no litter mates with which to play,,, so your other animals are all she has. Because she was only 6 weeks old when you got her- she may well need some extra help. Puppies that age have not learnt all teh correct doggie 'manners' - their Mum will set them straight as to what is polite - as will their littermates. As your pup missed some of this- asking an experienced trainer might be the best approach right now- that way there will be less bad habits later on Provide her with lots of toys- things that roll and squeak, and can be shaken .. start training with her- get guidance from someone experienced in your breed . provide your cat with a room that is 'safe' .. babygates or something, so cat can jump over, but pup cannot. what is pup's routine during the day? do you do little training sessions with her? do you put a leash/collar on and practice walking around the yard?
  15. Because he's a dog. because he's a puppy, learning his world. Because when he digs, it feels good , and also releases scents which smell good . If he loves digging- get him a clamshell sand pit.. and bury toys/treats for him !
  16. That looks good ! I do love the bag Well done!
  17. It looks great to me- I would worry about padding tho .. on the bottom, and the top , as well as dividers I love the colour! Would enjoy seeing pics when you have it all kitted out, too !
