  1. Sardines in oil, and other oily fish such as mackeral do wonders for skin, failing that try supplementing the food with Omega 3,6,9 oils and zinc for healing. Oats are also soothing, inside and out. Stay away from the mainstream meats and go for novel proteins such as turkey, fish, roo etc
  2. Not all blue dogs have a dilute gene :) In Staffords certainly it is a dilute of the brindle gene and we are seeing more and more instances of problems such as alopecia occurring because crazy people who don't know or don't care are breeding dilute:dilute matings more and more and are therefore augmenting and cementing these faults into the breed. Other breeds have a specific blue gene, such as the great dane and the amstaff and to be honest, I don't know enough about these breeds or that gene to comment :)
  3. Well you're doing well, we haven't got numbers through yet :)
  4. Hi guys My little girls wants to get into junior handlers. The judge on Sunday said that there was a whole list of rules on teh ANKC website but I can't for the life of me find them. Does anybody know where they are or, failing that, what they are? ta muchly Em
  5. I can go one better. Not only do I speak the language, I also speak the dialect(s) AND I can still do the various accents. :p
  6. She's usually quite a stickler for not accepting late entries, so much so that I had to hand deliver mine to make sure they got there on time! What's the FB page?
  7. I guess so, I've decided not to set up as chances are I'll just stay huddled in the car until we're called. It's been tipping down here all morning but nothing too extreme. Wear your wellies and lets hope the judge likes mud!! (Curses of having white dogs!!!)
  8. As far as I know its still on - we definitely haven't had that much rain in comparison to other areas. Stay tuned though, it could change at any given moment. I'll be setting up tomorrow so hopefully I won't be using my gazebo as a boat!!!
  9. that's right, last time El Nino paid a visit that's where we showed, in the sheds (it was so loud with the rain i don't actually know whether it was an advantage). Today, because it was the ag show, teh sheds were taken up with exhibitions of art/embroidery etc so rain hail or shine we would have been outside. Not as big a show as in previous years, but good for us nonetheless :)
  10. Take wellies people, the rain has only just eased off and it can get VERY boggy there. Thanks for putting the ring set up, it's not the usual set up but the alternative one. Terriers usually show where teh gundogs are being shown tomorrow, but it's better this way as if the heavens open yet again, we'll probably get shifted inside :nahnah:
  11. So terriers are at the upper end (not the car parking area but down the embankment), the last ring along the road? Clear as mud?
  12. Haven't got mine through either and we hand delivered ours!!! anyone know the ring set up yet?
  13. aint that the truth! our two whities always seem the clog teh plug hole when I get them ready for a show. Unbelievable teh amount of hair coming off them! OP: wouldn't worry about it. Just keep on grooming and vacuuming
  14. Yep, Caroline is there rain, hail or shine every Tuesday at Hillsborough showground from 5pm. it's $4 for the first dog and $3 per dog thereafter. We've started going again as my daughter is wanting to show.
  15. Keep persevering. It took about 6 months for me to have my new prefix approved. I think i was going through the thesaurus by the end of it! You'll get there, just keep an open mind as to what you want.
  16. I find there are two trends of thought: One is that you want to wear a colour that will make your dog stand out (think opposite end of the colour scale) so that you aren't as noticeable. Another was told to me by a show trainer who said that you have to be the whole package. When she was showing she used to be the one with a shiteload of jewellery so that she was memorable to the judge. I seem to tend towards the former but I'm currently trying to find my 'style' so that I compliement my dogs; am unique to other exhibitors in the ring but not too OTT so as to be ridiculous! Haven't got there yet LOL In both cases however, one thing remains: be neat, tidy and presentable as a mark of respect if anything else to the judge. I nearly always wear make up and hair is tied off the face to keep it neat whilst running and stacking (think Cousin It otherwise!). I have yet to find a skirt that suits my shape so I stick to pants. Being comfortable means that you are more confident in yourself and not self conscious, which will travel down the lead. The biggest no-no's women make (that I have seen) are the 'hello boys' moment when they wear too short a skirt so when they bend over to stack a dog you can see EVERYTHING! The other are women with big tits with inadequate scaffolding - can lead to black eyes you know! The only puppies that should be set free to run around are those with the four legs!
  17. It just takes a little time to let the cream rise to the top of the puppy listings. It is worth doing the research and taking that time to make damn sure they get a good quality pup from a good quality breeder. As Sandra has already said, there are at least 2 farmers in SA and the way they word their listings makes them sound like car salesmen. Let's just say there's a LOT of spin and marketing going on!!! Your friend needs to be able to cut through all of that crap and let them know it would be worth also looking interstate.
  18. Thanks guys, seems we're in the normal possy then. I don't have my numbers yet and I want to go set up on Friday
  19. Does anybody know the ring layout for this weekend? Specifically Terriers?
  20. Sorry Sway, forgot to ask you to add my new one to the mix: Medlund Staffords. Ta muchly
  21. I have had the same problem, though to be fair the two girls were never the best of mates, they merely tolerated each other's presence within the pack. However, after getting one of them desexed as we were never going to mate her, the other, more alpha bitch, took that as a sign of some sort of weakness or illness or disadvantage to the pack (well, that's my personal opinion of it) and decided to weed her out. It happened whilst they were being babysat by somebody else whom they obviously didn't listen to. It took over an hour on the operating table and a good 6 weeks of recovery and she almost lost a leg. We had to rehome her after that, would never put her in that risk again. She is currently being spoiled rotten, is as big as a house (ok, not my ideal but she is loved) and has a massive smile for everybody. I would be hesitant to desex a bitch now that I still wanted to run with the pack. I really do think that desexing was the 'excuse' the alpha bitch was looking for. If we were to desex a bitch we wanted to keep then it would be constant supervision with the other girls.
