  1. Thanks heaps Cassie! Was so great to meet you and your boys at the meet. Next time we all get together Isabella will be all healed and maybe even clipped. Again thanks for the well wish and compliments have passed them on to Isabella ;)
  2. Well we did it... We got a standard poodle girl de-sexed on Monday morning and its been hell for us for the first 24hrs today is much better. Its not the spey thats great and im ;) that I've had it dont but she also had another surgery while she was under... She had corrective surgery dont to her vulva to fix her "innie" I found out at 10 weeks old when i first got her from interstate by my vet about the problem (to which the breeder had not advised) I was told by the vet I had 2 options.. Ignore it and face a life of rashes, licking constantly, UTI's (Urinary tract infections) and it getting worse with age... Or corrective surgery. I found out on here that some bitches can correct it themselves by going through a season but i didnt want to chance my boy getting at her so i opted to spey before her first season at 6 months. So the big descision... Do i put her through 2 surgeries or one? I couldnt leave it go because as it has been for the last 4 months i have been putting cream on her vulva in an attempt to prevent rashes tht were getting realy bad from her licking all the time! So Monday came and in she went and I had no idea it would look how it does! She had a frowning face around her vulva inbetween that and her bum! there are atleast 12 stitches! One saving grace is that she is healing fast and is already formed a nice scab where the incision is. Its hard for her becasue her spey line is not bothering her but her fanny is. If she sits wrongly it hurts and she cant bite it becaue shes got a bucket on. she looks ridiculous The vet took 2.5cms of skin and a chunk of fat from around her vulva poor thing. But she's doing well very veyr sooky la la but thats ok she gets lots of extra cuddles and her brother cant figure out whats wrong with her and is all whingy too. Well i just wanted to share my experience incase it was of help to anyone if they have a dog with an inverted vulva. Thanks for listening
  3. Try the WEA.. One of my groomers did that course and said it was good for basics which as a mobile is all you'll need. They'll teach you to wash and dry and brush. Wont need much clipping though as mobile is pretty much all washing. All I can say is if you have worked as a groomer before... DONT start as a mobile.. You'll fall flat on your arse in about 12 months max! and thats if you have a popular franchise. Get a job in a salon first and work there for about 12 months and see how your back is and your wrists... Ive been in the industry for 3 years and my shoulders and back are always sore and i strap my wrists at night because of RSI. Its very hard physical work... And being mobile you'll mostly come across the big dogs that are harder work to wash than the little ones. A staff member of mine went solo and mobile and with experience her mobile wasnt sucessfull. Its a hard industry. Hope ive helped a little
  4. I personally say yes to two pups! I currently have a 9month retriever and a 5 month poodle and its the best thing ive done. ive still bonded with both and am trainging both. they love the company and i love twice the puppy kisses! Just make sure you have the TIME for 2. Any one will have the love and money because if you didnt you would think of a second one but make sure you can give both indevidual attenstion. As for the bad behavious of the first its 50/ 50 wether it makes it worse or better. my goldie was digging holes and now he's not. Was licking the walls now hes not but have a new puppy in the house made him feel he could go toilet in the house for a couple of weeks until he got that it wasnt ok. Its harder to indevidually bond with the second pup because the first can need more attention but the older one usually helps the littler one learn the ropes with toilet training, food habits, walking nicely on lead and they will never be lonely. I love have two because they will be there for eachother for life. They will live about the same age both being large dogs and can see eachother safely to their twilight years without worrying about wether the younger whiper snapper is going to anoy them in their old age if you wait 2+ years. But thats been my experience. Hope ive helped
  5. I loved my breeders diet and have stuck to it for my goldie and my new puppy too! Ditch puppy milk.. It has no nutritional value. Also if you put food down and you pup doesnt eat it. dont pick it up and take it from them. For the first couple of weeks my boy was a grazer. He just ate when he felt like it so i left the appropriate amount down for him to eat slowly. The diet he started on and is till kinda on follows. Pro Plan Puppy Large Breed is great cause it has extra's in it for big dog bones. Fresh mince chicken, beef, lamb and a little pork (but not too much cause its a little fatty) and fresh veggies and fruit. Saradines in oil. At 8 weeks 4 feeds a day. spacing it out but the biggest meal mid arvo with 1 cup biscuit, 250grm mince and half cup veggies. Early morning 1 cup biscuits Mid morning 500grm of mince mid arvo as above night half cup biscuit and 150grm mince. My boy is just 6and a half months 27kgs and aprox 24 inch to the shoulder. Im sure his health is part breeding but i think alot is diet. But i dont know this is just what the breeder gave me and it worked. But a friend of mine uses optimum on her cockers and they have the best shiney coats and are really healthy. But please dont use pal! its cereal based so you have to feed them 4 time as much to get the nutrition from a meat based dry food. And tinned is pretty much the same except its water. Either way they get fatter on that food and not as healthy. The higher quality the food the more solid, less frequent and less smelly the poo is too! Anyway... Happy Goldie
