    Cant Wait?

If the mother dog goes into heat in April, the pups will be born around June.....you won't have yours until August at least. I would imagine Yorkies only have small litters, they are only tiny dogs, so I hope she has a boy for you.
  2. Helen I've heard nothing but good about the 85mm f1.8. Let me see your results and tell me what you think of it. The 100mm f2 is from the same series and is supposed to be very similar, and it's one of my faves. I just spent some quality time in the backyard with the puppy, camera and 100mm f2 lens. The results are pleasing!
  3. No vet yet. I will call in to see the one on the highway tomorrow and see if they will do it. If so, she'll start in about a month.
  4. That was the lens that spoilt zooms for me. None of them ever matched up to the sharpness and colour of this lens. Mine lasted as long as the warranty and then stopped auto focussing so when I won some money in a photo competition, I bought the 50mm f1.4. It is absolutely superb! I do have 2 zoom lenses now, and use the 17-40mm quite a lot....it's a nice, sharp lens that renders good colour and contrast, and although the 24-85mm USM lens is quite nice, I tend to by pass that one for a prime. My 14yo daughter uses that one on her 10D.
  5. I have got a heap of lenses.....way too many in fact. Sigma 15mm f2.8 fisheye Canon 17-40mm f4 L Canon 24mm f2.8 Canon 35mm f2 Canon 50mm f1.4 (my favourite) Canon 24-85mm USM Canon 100mm f2 (my other favourite) Canon 200mm f2.8L And my husbands Canon 70-200 f4L I have polarisers for the lenses up to 50mm, just cheap ones and I use them when appropriate. Also have neutral density filters....4x and 8x, and graduated neutral density filters 2x and 4x.
  6. Eartha (Kitt) Wonder (Stevie) Aretha (Franklin Satchmo Ella (Fitzgerald) Joplin (Scott or Janis) Dixie Miller (Glenn)
  7. ROFL!!!! Gus has EXTREME ears, they are the cutest ears I have ever seen! When Benson was a puppy his ear set changed daily....in fact it was like on-going entertainment. I never knew from one day to the next if he was gonna have hound-dog ears, Bozo the clown ears or rabbit ears. And we won't talk about the little afro hairdo he had happening between his ears! LOL!
  8. I had a Maltese x Shih Tzu for 14 years and she definitely didn't look like that as a puppy....she was more fluffy and with longer, more "rabbit-fur-like" hair as a puppy. She also had a different shaped head and her ears weren't as triangular. Yours is adorable, where did you rescue her from? She could have Westie in her as well as JRT. If there's any Shih Tzu, it's not very noticable.
  9. That's a fantastic report! Isn't that a good feeling...your dog had a good time and so did you. I love meeting new "doggy" people, even just stopping to have a chat with another dog owner while I'm out walking. Oh, by the way....small dogs and puppies don't realise they're smaller than the big dogs. I have an elderly Lhasa Apso who's alway been of the assumption that she's 3/4 Mastiff and I currently have a 10 week old puppy who thinks she's as big as our one year old Australian Shepherd.
  10. I think at the age of 3, he will probably learn a lot faster than if he was a puppy because his concentration span will be longer and his ability to think things through will be a lot better. And he will absolutely love it! My 11mo Aussie has just started agility with my 14yo daughter...she takes him for an hour and a half, then I take him for obedience for an hour. For the rest of the day, he's knackered! LOL! All that thinking, running around and behaving himself just wears him out.
  11. He is an amazing looking dog. The bi's are absolutely beautiful, definitely my new favourite colour for Shelties (I used to like the tri's best and they are still gorgeous).
  12. After purchasing some purebred cats and keeping them indoors, I started off feeding what the breeder fed them......supermarket kitten food. Only to find that what comes out the other end is 100 times more disgusting than what went in and when you're in close proximity to their offerings, you tend to look for less stinky alternatives. I researched cat food and switched the cats to raw and super premium kibble; problem solved. I noticed they looked fantastic after a few months, and so did our resident moggy as they were all getting the same food, so it stood to reason to adopt a similar diet for the dogs. Benson was being fed raw and Supercoat puppy kibble by his breeder, it was easy to make the switch to my preferred kibble (Eagle Pack Holistic) and at the same time I moved Kassy, our old Lhasa to the same diet. Dusty was weaned onto a raw diet and I've just continued that on. The dogs rarely even get kibble now, it's just there in case of emergency and I also use it as training treats.
  13. Think of the clone and healing tools as little touch up tools.......to remove small temporary blemishes from faces, get rid of small bits of rubbish in the background, cover over dust spots when you forget to clean your sensor.....all that kind of thing. You might have success using quick mask mode, select the dog, feather the edges then blur the background. It would make the handler a lot less obvious but one way or the other, it's a long and tedious job. Best to do that kind of thing in-camera and shoot with a large aperture in the first place.
  14. I haven't tried Lightroom, must download a trial copy. I love that Bridge is integrated with Photoshop....I don't like saving from one program then having to open in another to continue editing.
  15. I no longer treat for a sit or a stand, he's been doing them for ages and it's expected behaviour. I do treat for a stay, a drop (but not much anymore), a good heel as this has taken him a while to get the hang of, and any other new things I teach him. And sometimes I just give him a treat as a surprise....cos he's my best mate. But the treat isn't always food....sometimes it's a rub on his chest, sometimes it's a squeaky toy. And he is always, always told what a good boy he is.
  16. On my camera RAW files are around 11mb, best quality JPEGS are about 4-5MB. My question.......where did the rest of it go? Ripley, one of the advantages of RAW is that you can then process the photo your way, not the cameras way. If you take a variety of pics in JPEG......for example a few portraits of people of different ages, some landscapes, a group shot, a couple of still lifes and some animals, they will all get the same colour/contrast/sharpening treatment from the camera's pre-set processing. Now, if I'm doing a portrait of a middle aged lady, I certainly wouldn't want it to be too sharp....same with animal fur. I might want a landscape to be sharper, but I'd also want the colours boosted more than in a portrait. If I take photos in shade, they often look quite cold in JPEG no matter what white balance is set.....for that matter I have to actually remember to SET the white balance. In RAW the white balance is set in post processing so you can choose just the right temperature. Now, the answer to my question....where did it go? The camera removed it. The camera processor removes anything it deems to be irrelevant data before it compresses the file and saves it as JPEG. And irrelevant data is often the detail in hightlights and shadows. Never to be reclaimed.
  17. Oh gosh, Izzy is absolutely gorgeous! I love that she's all ears at the moment. Puppies ears do amazing things til they settle down around 8-9 months. I just love Cav puppies, I think they are amongst the prettiest of babies.
  18. My dog is an Australian Shepherd and he's 11 months old. I've been taking him to obedience since he was 4 1/2 months and at first I didn't expect much but then I realised that the higher my expectations were, the faster he learned. So now I train him as if I expect him to do it well, and he does. A lot of it has to do with consistency (train him EVERY day) but also tone, manner and attitude. Positive tone, friendly manner and happy attitude will always rub off onto your dog.
  19. Mine get carrot, bok choy, zucchini grated raw and mixed with their raw meat. They also get cooked pumpkin mixed in complete with skin, seeds and the water it's cooked in. Whole apples as an occasional treat, but they're so expensive at the moment that it's a VERY occasional treat. One likes watermelon flesh and they also sometimes get raw chicken chunks mixed with grated cheese, oats and tinned two fruits. They also eat grass in the backyard.
  20. Join a local dog obedience club and learn to train the dog yourself. It's really good fun for both you and the dog.
  21. Of the more conventional meats, veal is very lean and easily available (although possibly expensive, but might be good for a change).
  22. See if there's a RAW update for your version of PSP. I have a Canon 40D and Photoshop CS2. PS won't open the RAW files from the 40D and there's no update for it as the curretn version is CS3 and I dont want to buy that yet. After fiddling around and getting frustrated (I've been shooting in RAW for 4 years and def do not want to go back to JPEG) I came up with a solution. I downloaded Adobe DNG Converter which converts the RAW files to DNG, which should then be able to be opened by most of the photo editing programs, and I can then edit them as if they are RAW....which they are, they're just not Canon RAW.
  23. Lenses have a worldwide Canon warranty, cameras don't. The warranty is with the country your bought it from, so if you're buying from the US and you have a warranty issue, you'll need to send it back there. I buy my camera bodies in Australia but my lenses from B&H in New York. They are wonderful to deal with and I've spent thousands of dollars with them over the past few years. These lenses aren't as bad as the Tamron, they are about mid-range for Canon......I probably wouldn't use them on a 5D but they'd be excellent on a 40D. Don't use an old flash on your camera, you'll likely blow the circuitry. Do some reasearch on Dpreview.com and see what flash units would suit a 5D. I know the Canon EX range does, but not sure about other brands. If I were you, I'd look very closely at a 40D body, and some top class lenses, or buy the 5D body seperately with one GOOD mid range lens and then add other ones as you need them.
  24. That's amazing....whenever I'm training Benson and I put him in a sit stay, he yawns. I wonder if he's calming himself cos he knows he can't move til I tell him. Back on topic, the first time I took Benson to the vet it was to make the appointment. The vet and nurse made a huge fuss over him and gave him some liver treats. The next time we went, for his vaccination, he couldn't WAIT to get in the door. Now it's a big treat to go to the vets. We walk past there every day as it's just a few doors down from my place and he always looks hopefully at the door!
