  1. I use Karo Syrup - had a bottle in the back of the cupboard and did a google search and found that it lasts pretty much forever. It's not something that is easily found but I see that you stock it Sway - not missing an advertising opportunity ;) :D
  2. What a fright - must have been really awful to say the least. Is there a Myotherapist in your area, well worth a visit.
  3. That is a huge difference in scores - we all hope for low scores but when they vary that much it makes me wonder which was most accurate. Naturally the lowest score is preferred.
  4. Having tried a few different brands I much prefer the Leerburg formula and highly recommend it above all others. I give it to mum, pups and and the adults when there is left overs and they all go crazy for it. Cheap and easy - and great for them, what more could you want
  5. yes hes in a box with a heat lamp but iam taking him in the morning to the vets and take it from there ty so much for all your help we just didnt expect this the ultrasound showed all were alive and well Things can go wrong during whelping, I think most breeders start to relax when the pups are around 3-4 weeks old - it's just part of breeding. I have only had 4 litters, only 1 litter was without any issues at all and I really enjoyed that one. However the other 3 were em c sections, pup stuck in birth canal, uterine inertia (x2) including a premature litter (3 out of 8 survived), pups died at birth, had pups pts at 7 1/2 weeks and 3 weeks old as well as the aspiration pneumonia mentioned earlier. Breeding sucks at times, it really does. When everything goes well it is absolutely wonderful.
  6. no the puppy nots gasping for air at all, i would rush him to aniaml hospital if that happened, It was a genuine Q, not trying to offend. I would not be giving up on this pup yet then. Good luck.
  7. yes i agree, i just spoke with him, he'll be taking him in the morning. I think tube feeding is worth a try, this is my first litter with a sick pup. its all just new to me i panic ty for your help So your vet comes to you and will be taking the pup with him - to do what and how long will the pup be gone for? Do you mean this is your first litter of pups or this is your first sick pup but had other litters? If the pup has aspiration pneumonia, his chances are slim. I lost a Rottweiler pup from aspiration pneumonia 3 yrs ago - it was really awful what that poor little pup went through, we tried for almost a week before I asked the vet to pts - she was opened up to confirm what we thought, just wish I had her pts sooner. We somehow saved a Pug pup from AP. It took almost 2 weeks of constant care and help from a wonderful vet and a massive vet bill but he is now 14 months old and in perfect health. Thinking back I have no idea how we managed it - I would not be willing to put another pup (or myself) through that again. Tubing is safe if done properly, but you would be better off using a small premature baby bottle and nipple than a syringe. The milk may not be good enough either, we will all say that we have had better success with different brands of milk and my personal favorite is the Leerburg Formula. Good Luck.
  8. "Google is your friend" - with just a few mins of looking that puppy farm isn't pretty - what a bloody shame they are so friggen stupid....
  9. I am so sorry to read about your pup - bloody disgusting but not surprising . It's not just the large breeds either. Earlier this year I had one of my PUG pup owners email me letting me know that their vet said that the pup had HD so severe that he needed surgery asap, (both hips) - and the cost was around $5000 . I contacted them straight away telling them not to agree to the surgery until they see a specialist and do xrays to confirm HD. Surprise - surprise - there was nothing wrong with that dog apart for some bruising from playing rough with his play mate, a course of pain meds and he has never looked back. This was SE VIC, they never doubted their vet before this but very glad to have got a second opinion from a specialist - so was I. I have lost a lot of faith in vets over the past few years.
  10. No worries Sharon - we lost interest when we were told by at least 3 parking officials that the racecourse gates opened at 8.30/9am. One person had no idea and directed us to someone else and he said the same thing. Yes we got the booklet that said 7am - the gates were still closed when we went past the last time and there was no one in sight. Had we known to wait at the gates we would have - no problems. The other exhibitors that we spoke to told us where to park, we were knocked back by all - it was those parking attendants that said about the gate times and not to park any where or risk fines and towing. No idea why the other exhibitors didn't just tell us to wait at the gates, perhaps they did not know about it either. Glad no one else has had any issues and good luck to those still going. I heard that the gates were opened at 6am yesterday - is that right?
  11. I do not know what all the fuss is about IT IS AN AGGIE ROYAL so thay have to accommadate more than us whinning dog people. The walk up the hill from the racecourse with the dogs gives them a small work out before thay get stuck on a bench all day.. We planned on parking in the racecourse but it was not open until later. Never mind - I just don't know why parking was not available when it was supposed to be.
  12. Hardly dramatic - if we didn't want to go we would not have wasted out time and money. It's not just us, why do you think the numbers are down and they left the entries open for longer - struggling to keep the numbers. I have heard from others who were entered and thought stuff it too - they stayed home. When it says in the handbook that you can that vehicle access :6.30am - 8.00 am - you expect it. The problem was where to leave the car at that time in the morning once you have unloaded your dogs and stuff. We could have waited around and stayed but the whole idea of going early was so we could get set up without hassles - if parking was an issue at that time of the day imagine what it will be like when you want to leave.
  13. and that's exactly what we planned on doing - but the gates were closed. Perhaps we could have waited outside the gates but by this stage we had already tried everywhere that we were told to and could not be bothered with getting stuffed around any longer. I don't see why the horse exhibitors have lots of easy access while the dog exhibitors get nothing - you have 5 mins to unload and your car is at risk until the gates are opened hours later. What is wrong with opening the gates early for exhibitors so they can get set up easily and out of the way for the next person.
  14. Well if you leave the car in the wrong spot you can expect a big fine or find the car gone - we were told they will be towed if left in the wrong place. Who expects parking problems at 6am?
  15. Stolz - you can imagine the conversation in the car back home ;) lets just say it has inspired us to write a complaint to let them know just what we think of the situation.
  16. All gates were closed when we were there - the only access was gate 7 for drop off/pick up. Lets hope they get it right tomorrow because it sure stuffed up our day today.
  17. Makes you question if they want dogs at the show then - the only way things will improve is if they never receive another dog entry until they provide early parking. If exhibitors don't stick together on this it will never change.
  18. The school was one of the places that knocked us back - the man there said the parking was for the general public only - not exhibitors and was not letting anyone in before 8.30/9am. While we drove around we saw several others being turned away too.
  19. Well this was supposed to be my first Royal Melbourne Show and I was really looking forward to it, so was Tracy. The clock was set for 4.30am (earlier for Tracy), everything ready and waiting for pickup and off we go all excited about our big day. We arrived at the gates nice and early by 6am and were back home again by 7.30am... We could have done what others were doing - park in the drop off/pick up area. Unload dogs and equipment and move the car SOME WHERE and move it again later - and risk parking fines or towing. We started to unpack, found our benches but since we had no where to leave the car we decided "stuff it". Entries are not cheap - $30 entry fee per dog - is it too much to ask for to have the gates open before 8.30/9am - including the paid parking, they would not accept our $15 for parking before 8.30/9am.. We drove around for a good 30 mins and everywhere that parking was provided we were told that they won't let us in until 8.30/9am and that parking was for the general public. If we had horses we could have pretty much taken our pick were to park but what the hell is wrong with providing parking earlier for dog exhibitors? We have had stuff knocked off at normal dog shows and didn't like our chances at the Royal by leaving everything unattended. One of us would have had to stay with the dogs and the other with the car until the gates opened - 2 hrs later if parking could not be found (we tried). Even the home owners were not out the front offering parking at that time in the morning, they know they can sleep in because they can charge what ever they want and people will pay to park in their yards when they are ready. If dog exhibitors want to have better access to parking nice and early like the horse exhibitors the only what that would happen is if there were NO DOG ENTRIES for 2012. I will never bother with a Royal again if they refuse to provide early parking. Good luck to all those who are entered - the hardest part all day will be parking.
  20. Thank you very much for the photos, they look fantastic . I only have tomorrow to make them up so if I may not get them done this time, no excuses next year though ;) Thanks again - much appreciated.
  21. Has anyone got photos of benches that have been set up with curtains, I am thinking of making some up and need some inspiration - would really appreciate some pics - please :D .
  22. Yeah Trina - Some Rottweiler enquiries have really frightened the crap out of me, while the Pug enquiries are generally wonderful, unfortunately I get some crossbred enquiries too . My last Rottie litter was 3 yrs ago and over a yr for Pugs, but the enquiries come in on a regular basis. Thanks for the advice and the link
