  1. There was more than one bite involved if he had 30 puncture wounds several body parts. The vicious dog chased him into the Dandenong Rd hotel and continued its terrifying attack on him, causing 30 puncture wounds to his legs, back and arms. eta: I think he must have pissed his dog off big time...
  2. I am sure some of you may have seen my thread in OT - please check your contracts and make sure they will protect your pups. Don't rely on a basic contract or you will be very disappointed, get one done up by a lawyer and find out what is needed to make it enforceable . I thought mine was ok - has ticked many boxes but I am still having problems. Some owners are the nothing but lying bastards and I am dealing with one now..
  3. Breeders don't sell on limited reg to stop BYB's and puppy farmers that's the reason given to excuse the practice of controlling someone elses property. They sell on limited reg to prevent you breeding with their bloodlines for two reasons generally. One reason especially in the show scene, they don't want to get beaten by another kennel establishing a better line on the original kennels dogs, and the other reason is producing substandard progeny with their dogs in the pedigree so inexperienced breeders don't use a good male over a poor bitch and produce poor pups for people to say that XYZ kennel's stud is a poor producer. Limited reg is about "control" for the most part, to control who has the rights of owning a pedigree dog and who doesn't for my opinion on the matter. A quality litter should be sold on mains and no rules within the ANKC structure suggests otherwise, the limited reg thing is merely a trend for control freaks misconstrude as ethical breeding practices directed towards people naive enough to accept it. I sell my pup on limited to try to protect them from being used by BYB - unfortunately I failed and have been screwed over a pup that was sold on a desex contract on limited registration. Personally I don't give a fat rats ares if you think that makes me a control freak for trying to protect my pups from pricks who only see them as a cash cow... Your comment is very distasteful and disgusting..
  4. Mouse over about pet pan - working with breeders - vet/breeder log in.
  5. Anyone who works with dogs on a regular basis can tell straight away how the dogs have been treated in their families. This thread to me is more a reminder to dog owners that dogs are DOGS - not human replacements. I have been grooming dogs for over 10 years, more than 90% of the dogs I have dealt with - all sizes and god knows what breeds, but the best behaved well adjusted dogs are dog...not babies! Over the years I have thinned the problem dogs/owners out and only do 2 dogs that need reminding they are dogs now, only because the owners can't find anyone else to put up with the behavior of the dogs while being groomed. One dog - once I start him I will not stop, if the phone rings or someone needs me, I don't care. I have learned long ago if I had to put that dog on the floor I won't pick him up easily. This dog will not be crated either - I have made that mistake twice and will never do it again. I am not talking about a small crate but a show trolley large enough to fit a Rottweiler. That dog turned in to the most evil sod you can imagine - the fear and aggression of being in a cage was more than he could cope with. Within minutes he had crapped and pissed everywhere. I have never seen anything like it - ever! I opened the door, waited for him to come out and settle down, put a jumper on - pulled down the sleeves and took a deep breath - then washed the bugger again so he was clean when his owner came to collect him. I let him run around my grooming shed and not back in the trolley. To allow a dog to get in to that state is disgusting. The other one I do is the most frightening 3.5kg Maltese you would ever come across - 8 years later she is getting worse, not better. The majority of the dogs I groom are a mixture of Maltese / Shih Tzu and god knows what but the majority of them have no problems being left without their owners for grooming for an hour or so - because they know they are dogs.. I will add - I have lost confidence with some vets, but will never blame them all for a problem I had with a few. I now have the most wonderful vet and he loves my dogs - what more could I ask. Not having a go at the OP but anyone working with dogs will know what I am saying.
  6. Just stand outside the Toy ring and you will see this a lot. Some will slide their hand/arm under the dogs chest and the other hand gently at the base of the tail, no worries. But others will pick the dog up under the chin and tail, I would like to see them asked to leave the ring.
  7. Your links don't work, but I googled it. Is this it?
  8. Wonder if the pup came from the same place one of my grooming clients bought a so called purebred Chi with "papers". The papers were a photo copy of a pedigree that had been white inked out for most of the details. Oh and the Chi grew fairly big and looks very Pom like too. They knew the papers were useless but just wanted that puppy in the window...
  9. The only thing I have been told to give dogs to make them vomit is Lectric Soda found in the washing powder section of the supermarket. At the time it was for a 40+ GSD x Collie Rough for eating snail pellets - made her vomit instantly. What a worry if she is in to everything...good luck.
  10. No idea what it's like now, haven't seen it in ages - last time I fed it to my dogs they hated it and they were raised on it.... So I contacted Big Dog and went with them. Maybe google but better to get one of each to see how you go to decide for yourself.
  11. Big Dog used to make the Dr B's barf but for personal reasons he changed companies and the formula also changed. Check out the ingredients and buy a pack of each and decide what you prefer.
  12. Has the dog had xrays to confirm HD by a specialist yet? I am curious why the vet called the breeder, never heard of that happening before, they would generally suggest you contact the breeder - not take it upon themselves to do it.
  13. I have never had a precious dog before but looks like Hamish can't handle the high fat content of lamb bones. He had pancreatitis just before Christmas last year and I was slowly reintroducing lamb bones back in to his diet since he loves lamb so much. He has been able to tolerate them once a week with no issues at all but earlier this week I almost over did it with him - 3 days in a row. He had runny poos and the smell when he farted is one that I will never forget. Swapped him back to turkey and chicken, he is back to normal again. He can tolerate lamb but looks like once a week is his new limit. I was feeding them lamb bones almost daily so I probably caused him to have pancreatitis, never gave it much thought though until he got sick. The girls must have an iron gut - nothing affects them. eta: small prey animals are a more natural diet if they were fending for themselves. Mother nature knows best.
  14. Everyone that I know with the puppy bars from Colin in FTG are very happy with them. I bought my puppy bars second hand from people who live in Mildura, they came back to FTG to have them made for her new car because they were so happy with the old ones. She was in Melb getting the new set done when I saw her add and was lucky a friend was going to Mildura for a show and brought them back with her saving me the hassle of getting them here. I love mine, but my daughter has the wagon now and the bars are sitting in the shed .
  15. Sorry - yes, you've told me that, and I'd forgotten. I still think of you as the "Goats' milk" person :D. Lol. No worries Erny :D
  16. Rhonda is lovely and the drive to Drouin from Narre Warren is no big deal, straight down the freeway and it's not that far. Erny, I only get the goats milk in when I have pups. I hope to get it again later in the year if we go ahead with with another litter, buying it in bulk is easy for me because I have 3 freezers for the dogs including a 6 basket ice cream freezer . Trina - your best bet is Rhonda, she is heaps cheaper than what you will pay in the shops and it is fresh/frozen.
  17. I have felt a lot of dogs microchips while grooming them, some are much easier than others to find. When Hamish was having his xrays done the vet questioned me about his chip, I told him he is done, he did him so keep looking. Took a good 5 mins or so but it is now located near his left elbow.
  18. I jumped on Erny's bandwagon last year when a pug was suffering badly from itchies (and other problems). I won't go in to details in here as to what happened - the pics speak better than words. Several sponge baths daily for a couple of weeks, a raw natural diet and heaps of TLC and you can see the difference in just 3 weeks of treatment. The first bath I gave her was to kill the masses of fleas, after that only goat soap was used instead of shampoo. 3 weeks later.
  19. Oakway - was this meant for me? I have fed many ways over the years and our dogs when I was a kid lived long healthy lives and they were not fed premium dog food that is for sure. They got pretty much what was on special and left overs from the bakery and home grown butchered lamb and beef (grew up on a farm and a bakery). They were also hardly ever wormed, treated for fleas or vaccinated - which is a different subject. I am not interested in promoting what I feed my dogs in this thread but having fed several super premium foods over the years my dogs have had mixed reactions on some of the "best" of them. There are a couple of brands of dry dog foods that I am happy to use if and when I want to feed it. However I am happy with what they are on and don't have a need to keep searching for more products. Have done enough of that all ready. As I said above, I am sure many will have good results with it but I won't be using it does not mean I am being closed minded - it just means I am happy with what they are on now.
  20. Thanks for the explanation however it still does not convince me that it is a super premium dog food. I am sure many will have good results with it but I won't be using it. :)
  21. Sounds like you have a lovely dog, please stop the child treating the dog like a climbing object or playing with her like a toy. She is a dog and deserves to be treated with respect, in fact she is demanding it in my opinion by sitting on your child.
  22. It's not what I would call a super premium food .
  23. Once Ollie had it once, he was prone to small 'attacks' if he ate anything out of the ordinary. He spent 3 days in hospital on a drip because the next door neighbours felt sorry for him and gave him a rissole and sausage from the BBQ (one day when I was out for the day)... They felt bad when I explained it but they weren't to know... If he ate anything fatty, he would get ill again.. I am going to get some lamb bones for boofhead and see how he goes though - he will only get them rarely until I feel sure about it (having had a sick dog, I seem to be over protective of this one because I don't want him to get sick)... It's only natural to be worried with another dog after everything you went through with Ollie. I asked the vet about changing the diet for Hamish and he said as long as I keep the fat down he should be right. Another vet at the same clinic tried to talk me in to giving him Advance but I told her no thanks and I would go back to the basics with him on a lower fat natural diet. So far so good, just hope I have made the right choice - mind you I did question myself about the way I was/am feeding there for a while . The first vet was more concerned about cooked bones/fat but I don't feed them anyway - what a shame your neighbours gave them to Ollie. It's strange how some dogs can eat anything and never have a problem while others can be sensitive. Hamish is the first dog I have had that has needed a little extra thought in to what I give him other than when I started raw feeding. I suppose I just have to wait and see. I never give them Marrow bones and no idea why hubby bought them - it's been 8 yrs since he bought bones for the dogs (for his old girl) and he just "assumed" I fed them, goes to prove he isn't listening to me.
  24. He was on rabbit barf for the first few weeks, then tried him on chicken, then turkey allowing plenty of time between variety to see how he went. It was probably a month later that he got his first chicken frame. I gave him a chicken frame every second day for a week then gave him 2 frames daily with the barf for another week to see how he would go, so far so good. Now I give him chicken frames a few times a week. When he was sick he was still hydrated enough to stay home, had he stopped drinking he would have been admitted to the vets and on a drip, vet was happy for him to come home but we stayed in touch. I might be wrong but I honestly believe that he was not put on a drip due to the raw diet.
