  9. Just wondering if anyone uses it? it has been recommended to me and just wanted to know others opinions of it. Thanks Natasha
  10. Cool i will be up the back on the slope (hopefully) with a large pen with 2 tollers shouldnt be that hard to find
  11. Cool, thats fine cant wait till i meet you all though
  12. Yes i will have to hehe has your mum decided if you are bringing the bubs to the obedience trial? Nope why is she moving?
  13. Only just starting. I spent last weekend at a beginners course (KCC) run by Hastings Dog Club (who are fairly active in that area). Tracking club also runs one each year but it is held near Ballarat. Am now going to train with an experienced person (who knows collies well) over towards Hastings on Tuesday mornings. The best way seems to be to find someone who can accomodate you into their training group. Its an interesting lesson in reading a dogs body language, how it changes as it finds and loses the scent. I handled a cattle dog pup who was fairly calm about it all. Pitied her owner who handled my weim - wasnt ready for the strength/speed that a weim moves when on a mission. The main problem is travel, trials are generally held at a distance and start at 7am, so you travel early hours and are there all day. Most training is done early morning from what i gather, and out of snake season of course. Sounds great!!! Im not going to start tracking till after i get my license as i know my dad is not going to drive me at 7am to somewhere an hour away for only a couple of hours I will go to the tracking course next year at Ballarat to get me started and then Darcy will be old enough to stay awake for longer then 1 hour I guess i will just attempt at "training" them until next year. Thanks Natasha
  14. Dogdayz: Where abouts do you train?? Ive always wanted to give tracking a go but never really started cause no place and basically no idea haha Thanks NAtasha
  15. Hi, If you still have enough left i will take 3 of them (i lose heaps around here cause a certain pup steals them)
  16. If it was on the first day, i (think i) saw Slim1 have one
  17. Awesome great photos i can never get good photos of Nova I am having a look at the link now
  18. Yeah i agree i will go again if you come back later on to make sure i am on the right track
  19. Yes i agree it was a great help, ive realised where i went wrong in his training and will be trying all the things you told us Thanks heaps!!! Natasha
  20. Good Post I went to the Melbourne seminar today (which was fabulous by the way thanks) and it certainly got rid of any doubts about all the types of collars. I also tried the e-collar on my arm and i got to a level 5 before i felt anything it was just a slight tingle which i was very surprised at and if needed i would use one of those on my boy because i now know it doesnt hurt as much as i first thought
  21. Haha cool, dont worry about us we are no competition i dont think unless he changes his attitude at the moment  Im not sure about Finn i dont see him that much last time at the Expo time before that was the Royal so yeah You can still meet my two though haha
  22. Haha yes i have entered Nova in the Berwick Obedience trials in Encouragement for both trials im really scared haha hope to see you there i might be bringing Darcy to get him used to the atmosphere so i will see you there!!! Haha Finn is Novas full brother (littermate) and it definately sounds like they have the enthusiastic attitude in common
  23. CONGRATS!!!!! Cant wait till we compete against you haha and be very afraid Tollers are addictive and get on great with Borders Spart: They are gorgeous more piccies hehehe
  24. ^I agree, i do growl at them when they arent doing the right thing and they quickly correct themselves, Darcy much quicker then Nova. I doubt anyone can train a dog using 100% positive reinforcement and if they did i reckon they would be lying
  25. With Nova i use a clicker and cant use any punishment at all (not that i would anyway) as he will tune straight off and wont listen. I am however working with a GL but can take it off after a few minutes and he wont go too far ahead for the rest. With Darcy gee he is really sensitive if you so much as raise your voice he will go like no way im not doing it, so he is on clicker and heaps of pats and praise, he is coming along really nicely im proud of him as i tried those training techniques from the attention when heeling thread and he now walks along beside me looking right in my face hehe looks great but it aint working on Nova
