  1. I think that was what they were after candid everyday photos, not posed
  2. Dogs Qld have finaly announced the winners of the Photo Comp they ran eairlier this year. The photos are on the website. I personaly don't like the one with the Weimaraner (I think) on the blurred background but congrats to all of them. The one I sent in didn't make it but there is always next year if they run it again
  3. I don't know much about this sport but an earlier post said that all working breeds in Europe need these titles befor they can be shown. I cannot understand this as people I have known who have imported Champion Border Collies, Collies and the like from European countries, France & Italy mainly don't have these titles on their papers either from the ANKC or or the Originals. I have not read every post on this one so please don't shoot me down but has anyone followed the standard proceedures and written to their State bodies or have they been totally overshot and everything been sent to FCI & ANKC direct.
  4. My old German Shepherd when I would look after a friends dogs when she must have thought where playing too rough would pin one under each paw, she would then look at each one like a scolding mother before she let them up and walked away.
  5. Dracdog, did you not read my contribution immediately above yours which was taken from the DogsVic website? That gives the definition which means that your understanding is apparently incorrect. I did read your contribution however I came to this understanding because Dogs Queensland refer to every show, trial ect approved by them as a sanctioned event
  6. My understanding of a sanctioned event is anything that has been given the approval (sanctioned by) of the controling body
  7. My question is to the bold part..why? Because he has emotional attachment to you or because his pedigree is one of a kind or dying away (which often has valid reasons which should be explored) My other question is....why? why because you own a male, (speaking as a general, not specific target 'you') it seems as though the automatic conclusion is to let him be used at stud? Do you (see reference to 'you' as noted above) feel you will make money from this action? Of course there is an emotional attachment to the him but also his breeder is in her mid-late 80's and has retired after breeding, showing and judging for around 45 years so I would be partially continuing her lines. I am not wanting to do this to make money If I do maked a little bit of money it would be a sideeffect the main reason as I said is to keep the bloodline going in some small way. What I ment when I wrote "at least in part" was that a pup is not made soley from 1 lot of DNA so part of any pups bred would be him. You have answered your question....get that breeder to mentor you and guide you. She will know what he would be good with or not and advise you. She would have connections to help promote the dog if she felt that he was in fact good enough to be used at stud. While she is still here, use her expertise. Thank you I was keeping in touch with Barbara but she moved and I have no Idea where to or how to contact her. Does anyone know how I can get intouch with Barbara Norman? I did try Dogs Qld but they cannot give me any detail as she is nolonger a Judge or Breeder.

  9. This may seem like a stupid question but I am wanting to put my Labrador out there as a Stud. What is the best way appart from going to shows to get his name out there. I have not been able to show due to work commitments but would like to see his line continue at least in part. He has been xrayed and I am waiting the results but was advised by the vet that took them that they looked very good.
  10. I am not sure why you are laughing or being smug. Labradoodles do have a registry. They do have ancestoral records. They do have breeders registered under their registry. Personally, apart from the obvious history time difference, I feel they are on the rough side of being legitimate just as much as Mini Foxies, White Sheps, Koolies or any orther breed in exsistenace and with a registry but not recognised by the ANKC. According to the ANKC regulations even if they have all the other requirements they will still not be recognized for the following reason "10.2.1 Any new breed or breed of dog “under development” must have a unique breed name, and is not a combination of recognised breed names or part of a recognised breed name and it must be pertinent to the purpose of the breed."
  11. Could anyone tell me how to get onto the stewards list that is on the Dogs Qld website. Also what is involved in stewarding & Writting appart from shouting out the entry numbers for the rings? I Suppose that to be a Show Manager you need to be a Steward for X number of years I have never seen the list on their website before so it must be new. It is devided into regions and has noted on it against the peoples names if they are a Seward, Writter or Show Manager. The list looks like it would be a great help to Clubs organizing shows.

  13. Poodlefan, If a complaint was laid against you would you want a chance to defend yourself? I have unfortunatly had to put in a complaint ages ago and yes I had to give permission to pass it on. They take out the detail of the person making the complaint so there is no privicy issues when they send it to the other party. They do the best they can for you in my opinion with the limited number of staff they have and it doesn't cost you to make a complaint. I suppose they could be like Victoria and charge you $250 which is non refundable to make a complaint.
  14. From the deffinitions section of the Dogs qld rule book, I new I'd seen it somewhere. “Exhibition” includes any Championship Show, Open Show, Parade, Endurance Test, Earthdog Test, Field Trial, Obedience Trial, Obedience Sweepstake, Tracking Trial, Agility Trial, Herding Trial, Dances with Dogs, Flyball, Puppy Match or Training event, assessment event or any other canine activity approved by the CCC(Q).
  15. Dogs Qld have had a win with the Government regarding Amstaffs according to their website. :D :D :D www.dogsqueensland.org.au
  16. Want to add, those that honestly beleive a bitch in season shouldn't be shown either due to a risk of infection....I would love to see documentation on this...in ALL the time I've been showing, and showing bitches in estrus...I have NEVER had one of them pick up anything..however..I HAVE had bitch puppies with vaginitis or similar who have never been outside my own yard and are 3-5 months of age.... The arguement of a bitch in season with the alleged 'open cervix' amuses me all the time. As mentioned...females both human and otherwise continue to mingle with their own, subject themselves to possible contaminents and yet seem to handle it quite well. I don't think dog's on heat should be shown for the same reason you are not allowed to trial them. they distract the boys.
  17. Paddy gets on a plane in Melbourne going to Darwin and gets a window seat, Another bloke gets on the plane, sits in the isle seat and a big black Labrador sits in the middle seat beside him. Paddy thinks that it is a bit strange as the dog is clearly not a guide dog so he asks the bloke what the story is. The bloke introduces himself as John and explains that the dog is a Sniffer dog and that he is on board to detect drugs. Anyway the plane takes off and levels out at 30000 feet and the dog goes to work. He walks up the isle, stops behind an old lady, comes back, sits and puts 1 paw on his masters leg. John explains to Paddy "that means that the lady has Pot, I'll take her details and the boys will be waiting at the other end". The dog walks off again stops behind another bloke and comes back this time he puts 2 paws on his masters leg, "that means that that bloke has Cocaine on him so I let the boys at the other end know and they will pick him up." About 20 minitues later the dog takes off again, this time he sniffs around for a while before bolting back jumping into the seat and crapping everywhere all over the seat, al over the floor & all over Paddy. Paddy is shocked and says to John" What the hell this is supposed to be a highly trained dog why is he doing this?" John looks around a bit sheepishly turns to Paddy and says in a hushed tone,"He just detected a Bomb".
  18. If she turns 3 months on the day of the show she will have to be entered in the next class
  19. Same here SwaY - just this week I found information that a registered breeder is actually a puppy farm and advertising all sorts of x breeds on petlink - I supplied him the evidence, and he removed them. I've also reported this to Dogs NSW and the RSPCA - what I found was disgusting. The fact that Troy removed them is pretty spectacular because as members of dogs NSW they are perfectly entitled to do exactly that and not breach their code of conduct as long as its not with their registered purebred dogs. They are also able to do that and remain within all bounds for the RSPCA. If he has removed them while they still hold dogs NSW registration - Im impressed. Really? I would think it would be against Number 3 of the code of ethics firstly, they are not 'maintaining and/or improving the standard of the Breed and the health, welfare and soundness of their dogs', and also against Number 5 'A Member shall not knowingly permit any of that Member's pure bred dogs to be mated to a dog of a different breed' it doesn't say 'pedigree or papered or registered' just 'purebred' - and breeding purebred poodle to a purebred maltese to me would be a breach, whether they are papered, main registered, limited registered or not at all?? Surely Dogs NSW would not allow such a loophole? There is also Number 15 - must register all litters bred by them. How can they register cross breeds? This is a blurb from Assoc of Australian Pet breeders website placed there by a QCCC registered breeder who has also joined the puppy farmers association. My partner and I have been breeding dogs for over 16 years,we each have are own breeds and lines of dogs, although we do share our registered prefix for our Dogs QLD registered dogs, my main interests are my pet Bostons and crosses of these, I have only gotten into crosses seriously since the Qantas airline refused to carry the brachycephalic breeds if they are pure bred, they will carry crosses, and we are getting ever more enquiry for these, so I have decided to add a few to my kennel of pure Bostons who may be had on pet registry papers as well, all bitches are desexed weather cross of pure no dog is sold for breeding. All pure bred Bostons are either cleared by parentage or by direct DNA tests of being affected by Hereditary Juvenile Cataracts, crosses cannot be tested, but any we breed ourselves with be bred from clear dogs, to start off this new crossbred venture, some dogs have been purchased who are not from tested stock, but we have been careful to buy from breeders who have been breeding for some generations without many, if any, problems. I may be wrong but wasn't the president of this association raided and charged with animal cruelty in the last few years I ahd a butchers at the sigth and the name rang a bell.
  20. I just counted them up from the ANKC site. there are 200 including the varieties in the breed. Eg Poodles & Belgians.
  21. I'm not 100% but I think in Qld the rule is that if the Judge has had anything to do with the dog it can't be shown under the judge for 12 months
  22. This is from the Offences in Relation to Exhibitions section of the Dogs Qld Rule book n. if any dye, colouring, lightening or darkening matter has been used and remains on any part of the dog at the time of exhibition:– (1) The Show Manager or his delegate may at any time order the examination of a dog for identification or other purpose by a person appointed by him and call for such evidence as he may require; (2) The Show Manager or his delegate shall have full power and authority to take possession of any dog for the purpose of determining whether an offence has been committed pursuant to Rule 280 n of these Rules and for that purpose may take or cause to be made any test or tests including the taking of any specimen including a hair sample and provided that such test, specimen or sample shall be made or taken in aseptic conditions and where practicable in the presence of the owner or handler of the dog PROVIDED THAT where a Veterinary Surgeon is available such specimen shall be taken by him; and PROVIDED FURTHER that any specimen taken as aforesaid shall be sealed in a satisfactory manner; (Samples of hair taken should not deface the dog’s coat, small samples from several places will provide adequate results). 23. I rang Dogs Qld Sunshine Coast Ag has Canned their dog section.
  24. If you mean the Noosa Show it is in September. The schedules are usually in the Dog World 2 Months before the show so that would mean it would be in the July Mag. If you mean the Sunshine Coast Show you'll have to give Dogs Qld a ring and find out.
