  1. Ok havnt posted in here for while but figured i would now had a good weekend, Dash won JDO (1st 500 and 1st overall) and got 2nd JDM (2nd 500 2nd overall) her lines were awsome on saturday, then i think fatigue hit us on sat arvo and Sunday she did manage a JDM Q sunday being 1.5 sec of Dan who got 1st so now i know where to fix up and where we stand against the great callibre of dogs that trialed on the weekend. Both Link and Sweep had some nice stuff happening and i am hoping that the residual agility bugs that they brought from the east with them are now gone . Saw heaps of fantastic runs, magic to watch . Cant wait for the start of the Nats on thursday now, fingers x'd the weather holds it has changed at least 3 times since the weekend.
  2. I agree to everything that has been said.......that would be a course i would break right down for a green dog regardless of what it has or hasnt sequenced before. With the video i would be going back and analysing it for my handling mainly. What ever Kenzie did was purely given by yourself . Good dog!. With rewards i would be looking at the course and working out where the rewards should be coming in , so for a tight sequence say iw ould reward there, be very carefull where you reward as well......alot of what i saw was rewards when something hadnt gone quite right...She is an eager dog wanting to do right so make it easy for her and build complexity into the game once you are 'in tune' with each other and have the basics down pat.
  3. Yep as Bec mentioned we will be driving over doing the trials the weekend before the Nationals as well so will be good to catch up with everyone . Now i cant for the life of me believe how hard it is too pick up a 500 SPD partner for my young girl......so if anyone is looking let me know i am looking at sending our entries off this week to get the early bird...helps when you are running 5 dogs lol. We had hoped to team the kids up with each other but unfortunately the pairs gods were not in our favour this year and not many trials are having them. So Linky is a baby BC with a ton of speed, good weaves, contacts will be good ;) and is pretty consistant let me know if anyone is interested..
  4. I agree with alot of vickie has said in regards to this. Yes teachers do attract fanatics altho most wont go out of their way to tell you that the way you choose to walk/run a course and execute your run is all wrong and shouldnt be done like that. Each to their own, and i am yet to see many of the people who execute the GD methods run their courses accordingly, also saying that given many of the courses we run dont suit his execution i am surprised that many of the people who adhere to his type of handling actually run these courses, it goes against alot of his handling. I beleive SG mentioned if she cant run her course the way she has trained then she wont run it at all........ I have watched people who swear by him and yet alot of what i see is some very confused dogs out on course, it doesnt take rocket science to see this. Execution is everything....... I dont use the GD methods with my dogs as it does not suit the way i run them, but i dont expect to be told what i am doing it not right either, it becomes very annoying after a while with the same people stating this. Each to their own, no ONE way is necessarily the right way and the only way to be doing things. I do agree that every tool helps but consistancy is a must regardless of who you follow and how you run.
  5. I think this is a blatent dishonesty on the part of the person taking the photos without the permission of the photographer, it is totally direspectful IMHO. It is very wrong for some one to butcher someone elses photos and call it their own work I knwo from experience my photos have been used without my permission and it annoys the crap out of me it doesnt take much for someone to ask. Maybe these people should invest in their own cameras and learn to take their own shots!!!!! But i guess that is all too hard much easier to steal someone elses. Sorry small rant
  6. Well i am excited :D my new canon 70-200 f2.8L USM came today and what a nice piece of glss it is had to get out and quickly take some shots just because i couldnt help myself. These were pretty quick shots and low res doesnt do them justie i am impressed with the sharpness. This one was taken around 6pm sun behind the mountain, my other lens wouldnt have coped with this shot in the light provided.
  7. I also was using film on my pentax i love B&W photography and film was awsome, but then went to DSLR and i find it a little cheaper (not speding a fortune on film) and the quality as good if not better. I love my Canon and i was looking at the 50D mainly for the fps especially photographing agility it comes in handy but after looking at many a review i might wait a little longer. Lens's altho can be expensive last a lifetime. It has taken me 12 months to take the plunge to actually fork out the $$$ or the 70-200 f2.8 L USM lens and i did alot of reviewing on it prior to buying it. I would say to anyone not only set about reviewing what yo are buying but shop around as well.
  8. Totally agree with this comment, i started out with a 350D and the kit len's that came with it, learnt with that camera and then started to upgrade i do alot of photography tho and it has taken me nearly 3 years to look at another possible upgrade however decided to put my money towards a lens. I think it all depends on what you want from your camera and what you want to photograph. I would love to buy the 'top' gear but my budget doesnt expand that far and i still have lots to learn which can be done on my 400D so until i think i can do a really good camera justice my 400D will have to do
  9. That is a pretty good price and i would be amazed to get it cheaper than that
  10. Yep i paid around $995 but i think this may have dropped some now i got mine on line via digital camera warehouse. You should be able to pick it up at a fairly reasonable price if you shop around at present this is the only lens i use. Thanks Chezzyr it was taken around 6.30 am a while back The examples i have gven are really just to give an idea at what the lens can achieve
  11. Ok for the weave shot as it was take at the Nats i was probably about 10 metres away for the diving shot again 10+ metres away Bees roughly 2 metres Landscap hard to judge the distance as i was standing on my verandah Links head shot again maybe 10 metres Sweeps portrait roughly 3 metres. Some of the agility shots i have taken have been maybe 20+ metres at some events but still managed to get decent shots
  12. mine came today  i forgot how much i ordered but it was all very exciting to open it
  13. and a little more.....i looked into it when i bought my 2.8L USM (Only) lens today that set me back $1600+, but man i bet it is gonna be worth every cent when it arrives
  14. Ok this is what i have got when using my 70-300mm f4.5-6 EF IS USM Lens, gives you both sides of the coin...so action and still, as you can see it is a very versatile lens, my only gripe is the the fact it isnt a f2.8
  15. Correct i have used a 70-300 f4.5-6 IS USM lens (cost me around $1000) i have used this for both agility and portrait shots works pretty well as long as the lighting is good. This lens isnt real good in dull light. I have just bought (my xmas pressie to me) the canon 70-200mm f2.8L USM lens this is serious bit of glass that isnt only quick but very sharp. It has cost me a bit tho as the L series lens's are not cheap. Unfortunately the IS version was another $1000. I am really excited with this lens and cant wait for it to arrive. this is an exceptional link and will give you a complete run down on certain lens's what they are good for, flaws etc http://www.the-digital-picture.com/
  16. Sandra Hasset is at the Animal Medical Centre in Phillip (colbee court) she is very very good. I use her for all my trialing dogs and she has helped overcome some serious injuries. I wouldnt use anyone else, she is also a vet which is very handy
  17. I think i must be the only one here that washes less than that The amount of times i get asked what i wash my dogs in with the reply of i dont wash them i think they are lucky to be bathed once this year. We are also blessed with dams on our property so the guys get to swim an awful lot. The ONLY time i wash my dogs is if they have found something dead to roll in ewwww :shakehead: or fresh roo poo. I am blessed with my dogs cleaning themselves like cats they are very good self groomers. And no my dogs neither smell nor look dirty. And water is a consideration where i am as we rely on tank water only. So mine are lucky to actually get a bath or 2 a year as a rule. Also having 5 i dont have time to be washing them every week.
  18. I may look at off loading mine it is only just 12 months old, am looking at the 50D now but wont be buying it till just after xmas
  19. I have a small terrier x who also had the op done on both hind legs, i got a second opinion at the time as her first op was done when she was 12 months, 2nd done at 16mths, luxating patellas are also graded from 1 (good) to 5 (very bad) jaz was a grade 5 in one leg and a 4 in the other, you could extend her hind leg out and it would displace bang like that. When she had her surgery i used a good orthopod here in the ACT, he pinned and wired both her legs, she had physio straight after the op and then again through her recovery she was doing agility again within 3 months. Good rehab really helps. My other terrier was graded a 2 but with good physio, etc she never had the surgery.
  20. i was hoping to play santa to myself, but then thought hey i want to upgrade to the 50d too so now i have to wait a little longer.....
  21. have to say i prefer the 17-55 the colouring is a little better altho a tad dark around the eyes (nothing that a little contrasting wouldnt fix) the last f4 looks a bit soft focus to me, giving it a softer appeal, in contrast to the distinct lines etc in the ?flooring that your BC is laying on, i dont mind that. but agree the 70-300 are much better for action. She says this scanning the market for the 70-200 f2.8 USM (maybe IS) L lens
  22. Firstly it is a real shame the guy didnt help you out more that really annoys me when people do that . Now unfortunately i am a canon gal so cant really give you any good advice re Nikon len's i am sure Vickie can give some tips there i know she bought herself a decent portrait lens of ebay (i think) and it serves her vey well and gives some lovely shots. The other thing is go here : http://www.dpreview.com you can find out about most things with regards to cameras and lens's, if you go into where it says len's then just find the lens you want and click on it, it will give you a full review, pros and cons etc. I tend to use this site for when i am about to buy anything new lens or camera plus i do alot of googling to see xxx vs xxxx etc. Googling is also a good way to see shots taken by a certain lens, i think in flickr you can also nominate photos that have been taken with a camera and or lens. Now ebay i havnt bought anything expensive like lens's or cameras on there which doesnt mean i woudnt but definitely search and make sure they are not either grey market and or OS altho i have know people to buy from the US with no issues. some online stores i use (and i bought my camera body through one of these) are http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au https://www.camerasdirect.com.au the first one i deal with the most and have found their turn around time brilliant and they are very well priced. I guess i havnt really helped much but at least given you some areas to go and have a look
  23. Funny enough it did both, whilst the wind wasnt too strong it kept it out, all and good, but when the wind picked up and the storm hit these things were thrown about like you wouldnt believe, so the wind got in and no couldnt get out. These tho had all sides on, the one that survived only had one side up and they managed to grab it as it lifted, the other not so lucky. And damn scary to watch Mine i packed up when i saw the storm coming , it was really weird thing to watch as it all happened in slo mo.....a lady actaully got hit in the head with hers (she was ok), not something i would like to experience again. So yes they are great, yes they have to be pegged, yes they can have their sides up, but as mentioned i would monitor the wind and conditions and either remove sides and or drop the gazebo and the compact definitely the way to go
