Same again. We need people involved in a small working party to brainstorm and put into action things to address this the best way within the community. We dont just want trainers - but trainers are good. Ordinary dog owners are needed just as much in on this too though. Dogs behaving badly because their owners dont give them basic training for good manners cause laws and restrictions on our dogs and what we can do with them. Come in if you feel strongly about this one because there is lots to do. I will collect names over the next week or so then ask Troy to open a private area for us to get to work. Julie

Actually I have a look at the surveys which are sometimes used as studies which have been conducted only on line and see the limited numbers and the high lean toward female respondents and feel the same way. That is something we can do something about I think Im about to open offers for people in on the working party for this.

O.K. - Same as the rest . Im looking for a working party to brainstorm some good ways to go about us building the best relationships with researchers and getting them to look at studies we have in mind. This will entail options for finding money to put into this and lifting the whole dog research area in this country.

This is my understanding also. This working party is about purebred dogs - there has been enough already for promotion of cross breds and we are working on most every other area of dog ownership to help all dog owners. This one is about purebreds only so if anyone who has said they are interested is not passionate about this - promoting purebreds - then it would be best if you looked at one of the other working parties.

Here's the problem. I have enquiries for the auctions, pacers help, pacers new clubs, the awards, MDBA membership and MDBA courses and general info on dog related stuff including the new working parties we are setting up etc . Some of these things I have to pass onto the board,sometimes I dont come to dogz for a day or two depending on where I am and what's on, and its hard to answer them all in good time and keep them where I need them to be in order to deal with them effectively.I can get up to 50 P.Ms over night and its a constant struggle with the system and easy for me to miss you so its much better for everyone if anything you need me for is either done via email or phone. Notifying me through the PM system of a payment or a donations etc makes it easy for me to miss. So I understand its a pain for everyone else but it makes life much easier for me if it all comes through email and I keep it all nicely where it needs to be depending on what it is. Julie

If I have a litter of beagles and there are one or two tan and whites Im lucky to get an ask for one. If I have tri coloureds I can have 100 plus on a waiting list. If I lower the price on the tan and whites rather than raise the price on the tri colours - is that O.K. - or do you want me to lower the price on all of them - or do you want me to just keep them until someone comes along who is prepared to pay the higher price? They all cost the same to whelp and rear except I might have to feed and train and keep one longer so that would cost me more. This whole package of expectations of price fixing, judgement of a breeder based on what they charge rather than what they breed, push for not taking deposits, telling me putting the price up of a more popular colour is the same as an oodle in a pet shop only demonstrates that breeders are their own worst enemy and judge and jump on people at any opportunity in the belief that their way is the only way and using it to show their superiority. In any other area someone who gets more for their product including a stud animal of any other species is seen as successful - not us though we have to stay poor and follow on like lambs to the slaughter to prove our worthiness according to the staus quo.

I think it's wrong, they all cost the same to whelp and raise. So because they all cost the same to whelp and raise we should be a charity and sell our puppies off at the lowest price rather than take a higher price if we can get it? A breeder never gets the true value of what they breed and poverty isnt a sure sign of a good breeder either.

the OP wasnt about deliberately only breeeding for colour was it? I thought it was about a breeder charging more if they could get more for specific colours.

We have imported a black & would never dream of charging more for a colour ,its like charging more because it.s an oodle . Makes no sense to say charge more for a colour then go berko at pet shops for charging more because it's a DD. In our breed we certainly do have people who charge more & QLD is the main culprit. We have a rush on people wanting Black/Silver a colour we don't breed & yes many have brought some very poor animals due to colour at a higher price .The sad part is the breeding will not produce a quality B?S & with age have ended up dark Salt/Pepper . But you get a handful of people who want something bad enough & will pay for it but we won't take advantage of those said people. We'll have to agree to disagree on this, RSG. I've set my case on facts. The pilot licensing program in the Gold Coast area is moderate but has some teeth & was a cooperative production. All stakeholders are fine with it, in practice. RSPCA Qld's anti-puppy farming marterial picks up the same rationale & methods. Not surprising, the RSPCA was in the planning group...so was Dogs Qld. So I support it. The RSPCA Qld material also picks up the Qld research that nailed 2 of the essential features which 'flag' puppy-farming. Lack of socialisation and uncontrolled breeding. Registered breeders in Qld came out exceptionally well in not displaying these. So the RSPCA Qld material points out that registered breeders have a code of ethics to guide what they do. In reality, tho', some may not follow them. The biggest pity is that Dogs Qld doesn't pick up on this & do some Public Relations. The strength is in their hand...so use it. People in Qld tend to know what puppy farms are, as opposed to 'normal' breeding. Raids & seizures are publicised. I've been involved with some poor little mites rescued from one of the worst. The geography in this state lends itself to 'farmers' setting up in poor agricultural land, away from ready scrutiny. Appalling conditions. Yielding huge hauls of horribly distressed & psychologically and physically damaged dogs and puppies. This is light years away from the regular registered breeder who follows the excellent ethical guidelines set out by Dogs Qld. All stake holders are fine with it in practice / - I don't think so Mita. That is not what we are hearing AT all.

You would do it if you had a yard full of dogs which were not selling.Do you lower the price of all of them to equal the ones that dont sell as quickly and sell the others faster and still be left with the ones people dont like as much? Makes no sense to me.

I charge more for a Tri coloured beagle than I do for a tan and white. Why? Because I can and I would pay more for a tri than a tan and white any day of the week. More people want them - supply and demand. I dont breed for colour but Im not going to feel guilty for taking as much as I can get either. If a breeder can get more money and they are doing it all right in my opinion they should go for gold.
