This is why we set up Pacers and took it to a chartered clubs situation. We tried the buddy system but realised it needed more than that because its so difficult for us to try to help adequately when we dont know the local areas and the resources etc and nothing specific has been put in place for each area. Part of the requirements for each Pacers club is to have local risk analysis and plans and things sorted to ensure people have some quick help to get their animals to safety in case of a natural disaster. If we can get to a point where we have a Pacers in reach of all towns then no matter what there is much more hope of getting the animals to safety than what there is now. Fundraising can remain within the community its raised in and resources can be in place to help until other Pacers people can help as well. It can cater for people in natural disasters as well as when they hit unexpected hard times. Problem is until it happens people dont think its going to happen to them or they think they can control it themselves via a disaster kit and plans etc but sometimes it needs a back up and its better to have the back up ready with resources specifically geared for animals. Boats , trucks, portable dog pens, portable horse yards, stock piles of crates and places already to place them should be close to everyone no matter where they live. Procedures for ensuring they arent lost Fire, floods, wind, earth quakes, chemical spills, accidents , ill health, and a million other things make us all vulnerable. Start a Local Pacers Club

Agree with this. Also think that never walking them or giving them stimulation makes them territorial and can lead to aggression. Nup not mine. I wouldnt live with an aggressive dog.

This category is sponsored by Eukanuba. We got a tear or two out of this one! It was a fantastic nomination for Bernadette Smith From Bisart Dobermanns [dogz name bisartdobes] for Breeder of the Year. The nomination told of how Bernadetta goes about what she does with true love and passion and she obviously deserves the gratitude and respect she has from her puppy buyers! Well done Bernadette. See you in Melbourne. Julie

I dont take my dogs out for a walk with a string around their necks but they play and run with each other and walk beside me or run in front of me everywhere I go around the property. They have people coming and going all day. I sit on my porch and watch the beagles play Aussie rules footy being umpired by the house Maremmas every dusk for an hour or so until they decide they have had enough and come and crash around me on the porch and say good aye to the cats. If I put a lead on them and left the property they wouldnt see anyone or meet another dog and where they live is 2.5 acres square house yard which is snake proof, escape proof and has lots of great smells and new things to do every day. There is a mound of sand and gravel, and another of brickies sand which they run up and over and around and around this week which wasnt there before which they are helping to spread for me and they pick the strawberries off just before I get to them every time . Its dog heaven here and it cost me a hell of a lot of money to make it that way - why would I need to take them for a walk 0n leash? Isnt that something you do when you have no choice because of living in suburbia with on leash dog laws? How can you seriously think pounding a concrete pavement not being able to explore or run or have any choice in where they go or what they do because their owners are directing every single step is less cruel than the way we live with our dogs?

Pork Pies Or Lies The General Public Tell Us
Steve replied to freundhund's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ive actually had this argument a couple of times from dog breeders! If your dog is mated to a mongrel it ruins your bitch for life all the puppies she has for the next several litters could also be cross bred! True - they really believed it - thought I was an idiot because I didnt know. -
Part of a serious problem Australia wide is that you have to look at dog laws in conjunction with planning laws. The simple fact is there is no planning in planning. When ever, you hear the words each is taken on a case by case basis if you look a little harder there are all kinds of things going on which seem to make little sense. If a person cant make a phone call or look on a website and see what is needed to own or breed dogs in any shire before they buy property there or before they bring in more dogs it creates massive problems and leaves the whole thing wide open to way too much which could change if you dont have the right hair colour, breed the wrong kind of dog or shout someone a free lunch. When you see one person who is O.K. to own 10 dogs on 30 acres without the need for wirly birds on shed rooves, concreted pens etc and yet their neighbour on 60 acres with 10 dogs has to have the whole works including a ranger who calls in every 2 months and makes them re paint their concreted pens in the same shire - you have to start to question the system. At what point do you call someone commercial - state law in Queensland defines breeding dogs as commercial no matter how many you breed or whether you are breeding purebreds or not but councils - for now - seem to make that decision based on CC status. Hesapandabear for example has 8 dogs and she is not counted as commercial but her neighbour who is not a member of a CC may be considered to be breeding dogs commercially if they also have only 8 dogs. I know that the AAPDB are pretty hot under the collar about this and the reality is that no law can be in existence if it is inequitable and deciding one person is commercial over one other needs to have a set and definite line in the sand which is not reliant on case by case. In Victoria life is about to get very very interesting. I spoke with someone who is helping with drafting new laws for breeders when the new government changed hands. Up till now there are from memory about 50 registered breeding establishments in Victoria and when the new laws come in they are expecting thousands. Thats because up till now CC members have believed they didnt need planning approvals and licences if they had under 10 fertile dogs - if my information is correct that will change to anyone who has 3 whether they are CC members or not regardless of what breed they own. They will all come under mandatory laws for breeding establishments as well as planning laws limiting how many they can own depending on what zone they live in. Any one who owns more than 2 dogs will need planning approval. Anyway because we still have case by case basis you can know the basics such as how many on what size block but the rest is pot luck.

You cant just keep making more and more laws without any regard for science. You cant just keep making laws which completely ignore property rights. You cant just keep making laws which are detrimental to the health and longevity and welfare of our animals. You cant debark a dog via your vet to stop it from being a pain to society without approval and jumping through hoops. We are told we have to try training and various other management issues to try to shut the dog up and get a tick from the council that you have tried and that there are complaints. No one stopped to consider its a whole lot easier to simply move the dog out or put the dog down. Someone somewhere decided for every dog owner that having your dogs voice lowered was cruel and un necessary, that you had no right to discuss this with your vet listen to the pros and cons and make the best decision you can for your own dog and your own circumstances - and just to be sure you had no right to make this decision if you show your dogs that you dont go doing what you have a right to do and have a vet out of state do it they tied that one up too. Yet you are ordered to yank out its reproductive organs. There is no talk of having to try management issues first or having to jump through hoops to get approval to do that and show you have done all you can to live with the dog and keep it from having puppies. Voice lowering is cruel but we just wont talk about the adverse side affects of desexing. But wait even better when they are desexed early there is a higher incidence of HD and joint problems - bad breeder. There is less longevity - bad breeder. Yet after you have done this you are able to toddle off to the vet and ask them to install fake testicles under a GA ! Bloody hell there is even a brochure to help you choose the size you want! You can decide the dog doesnt match the couch and dump it or order your vet to kill it. Just because you think its better for you and your dog to have your dog's desexed and it will prevent someone somewhere from having an accidental litter doesnt mean its better for me and my dogs and a government shouldnt have the ability to take that right from me. Good heavens in most states you still have dogs being sold off from pounds entire - the world truly has gone mad and we seem to clapping and cheering while we bang a drum for more laws and more regulations for ordinary everyday dog owners. The commercial breeders are in heaven donchya think that should tell someone somewhere something?

Any exemptions members of the ANKC may get the members of the Australian Association of Pet Dog Breeders - commercial pet breeders - will get too. They have been very clever in ensuring they register puppies and police their members under a code of conduct which ensures they are treated as equal. They are cheering.

When we attended the round table conference where this was discussed the only breeder group which attended which supported licences and ID numbers etc ---- was The Australian Assoc of Pet Dog Breeders Commercial pet breeders group. What should that have told them? who else attended? ANKC, Dogs NSW MDBA - all against this and AAPDB [Commercial Breeders] ,RSPCA NSW, RSPCA Act , RSPCA Queensland RSPCA Australia, AWL, Young Lawyers, Deathrow Pets were for this. PIAA was there too but I dont remember if they were for or against.
-
They wont they will pass an inspection on one property and have the dogs on another ,they will look good for the inspection and then do what ever they want.and how will they stop people from buying them in bulk from interstate any way. Puppy farmers dont care about this - they build bigger and better concrete jungles pay the fees and off they go. The government cant tell anyone how many puppies they can or cant breed or how many they can sell or where they can sell them. So what - they may see some who breed lots but how does that stop them? It doesnt - all it does is make more good breeders say its too hard and walk away and leave an even bigger market to the commercial breeders.

Didnt take em long new ad today. Due to new laws that require anyone selling dogs/cats/birds to have a breeders number it is going to make it very difficult for pet shops to find pets. I am after breeders who are willing to get a breeders number (which is easily done but costs approx $170 and approx $35 every year after that. Apply at your local council) and willing to sell the puppies to Noah's Aquarium and Pets (can view shop first). These laws are going to make it very difficult to find puppies, so anyone who wants to continue breeding and wants a guaranteed buyer without fuss, I am happy to make a deal with you. Email [email protected] the type of dogs you breed and prices you are after (and breeder number). I can NOT take american staffies, pitbulls or other dangerous breeds. The cheaper I can buy puppies (but at a reasonable price for you), the cheaper i can sell the puppies to families who are struggling.

Joint Statement: Minister for Primary Industries, Fisheries and Rural and Regional Queensland, The Honourable Tim Mulherin Minister for Local Government and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, The Honourable Desley Boyle Thursday, December 23, 2010 Puppy farms putting cash ahead of care are on borrowed time The Bligh Government is planning a dog breeder identification system – a first for Queensland – in a bid to squeeze unscrupulous dog farmers out of the market. Local Government Minister Desley Boyle said the dog breeder ID was being developed in partnership with industry to give consumers a pro-welfare choice when it comes to buying a puppy. “It is a sad fact that puppy farms exist,” Ms Boyle said. “There are unscrupulous puppy farmers out there who keep animals cooped up in cramped conditions where they are constantly pregnant or lactating just to keep up with buyer demand,” she said. “These are ruthless operators who typically put cash ahead of care and buyers are none the wiser. Puppy farms are not registered breeders.” Ms Boyle said the new breeder ID would change that by assigning each breeder property with its own number and breeders would be required to show their number at pet shops and in any advertisements. The Bligh Government is developing the new system in consultation with key stakeholders including the RSPCA, Animal Welfare League, Dogs Queensland, the Local Government Association of Queensland, the Australian Veterinary Association and the University of Queensland. Primary Industries, Fisheries and Rural and Regional Queensland Minister Tim Mulherin said at the heart of the matter was improving the welfare of animals. “The consensus is we need to move on this issue and we are developing a new policy to help Queenslanders make an informed choice which would squeeze unethical puppy farmers out of the market,” he said. “We are not out to get responsible dog breeders who do the right thing – far from it. They will be showcased because they will have a dog breeder ID and be proud to promote it. “Consumers will be looking for a breeder ID, and good breeders will be in demand. “We will also be encouraging Queenslanders to buy only from registered breeders.” Other elements of the Bligh Government’s plan include: <LI style="COLOR: navy; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo3" class=MsoNormal>Requiring breeder ID numbers to be displayed at points of sale or in advertising for sale or supply; <LI style="COLOR: navy; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo3" class=MsoNormal>Compulsory microchippping of breeding bitches; <LI style="COLOR: navy; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo3" class=MsoNormal>a requirement that the registration number/microchip number of the breeding bitch must be included as part of the microchip information on all animals bred from that dog; <LI style="COLOR: navy; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo3" class=MsoNormal>Development of Dog Breeder Standards by Biosecurity Queensland (DEEDI) in consultation with stakeholders; Breeders to continue to be subject to the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008 and the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001 (ACPA) as well as any new requirements under the proposed Dog Breeder Standards under ACPA. Consultation with stakeholders is continuing and the new system is expected to be up and running before the end of 2011. It is expected the new Breeder Identification number will be brought in under an amendment to the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008. This is power being abused. Blatantly. All based on ALLEGATIONS and not a sniff of cruelty or pain in sight of the cameras. The dog with the short tail might have been docked legally overseas ..... or it could have been born here with a natural bobtail .... or it could have already damaged the tail and had an amputation done (which has happened with a quite a few of the docked breed puppies). Why not call the owner and ask first? Written proof for both of the above short tail scenarios can be provided easily enough in most cases. I didn't see the show mentioned but I hope some of the docked breed owners out there have taken up the matter with their local Member of Parliament. Nobody's home should be broken into like that. Souff Un believeable really isnt it? Considering we havent heard anyone in the poo over it and it was there for everyone to see I think perhaps anyone who owns an animal should take serious steps to secure and protect their property.Though I dont have an idea of how if locking you dog inside your home when you go shopping isnt enough todo that. We should all be aware of the fact that as this can happen this org has more power over anyone who happens to own an animal or be in control of an animal than any other agency in this country.
