Its not about anatomy or the food chain its about humanity and just as some cant understand why Im disgusted by this I cant understand why others cant see the difference.

Some of these herbs have warnings on them I would speak with a vet first and I wouldnt give this mix to my dog. Side effects of willow bark may include blood pressureinstability, edema (swelling), rash, Hypertriglyceridemia (an excess oftriglycerides in the blood), diarrhea, heartburn, vomiting, and dyspepsia(upset stomach). Willow bark may also lead to hyperuricemia (high levels ofuric acid in the blood), which may precipitate an attack of gout in susceptiblepatients. Willow bark may cause hepatic dysfunction, dizziness, fatigue, swollen eyes, bronchospam, papillary necrosis or headaches. combination productscontaining willow may cause acute weakness, hematemesis (blood in the vomit),melena (black stools), abdominal pain, pale mucous membranes, andpanhypoproteinemia (low levels of protein in the blood), indicating severegastrointestinal bleeding. The salicylates present in willow bark may also impairplatelet function resulting in an increased bleeding time. However, dailyconsumption of salicis cortex extract is thought to affect platelet aggregationto a far lesser extent than acetylsalicylate. Caution is advised in patientswith bleeding disorders or taking drugs that may increase the risk of bleeding.Dosing adjustments may be necessary. Although uncommon, devil’s claw can cause seriousside-effects of abnormal heart rhythm and bleeding. Other, less seriousside-effects include: rashes stomach upsets diarrhoea headaches loss of appetite. Devil’s claw has been reported to interact withanticoagulants, painkillers, heart drugs (for example digoxin) and stomach aciddrugs (for example famotidine) - See more at: http://www.arthritisresearchuk.org/arthritis-information/complementary-and-alternative-medicines/cam-report/complementary-medicines-for-osteoarthritis/devils-claw.aspx#sthash.SD21xPYS.dpuf Kidney problems: The above ground parts of stinging nettleseem to increase urine flow. My issue isnt with whether it was done humanely or that the animal suffered - dead is not suffering my issue is with the fact that instead of determining this was the best option and doing it quietly and getting the exact same result for the animals involved its about the human element . And of course only idiots go to attacking the zoo and issuing death threats etc and if any dog owner decided they wanted to put on a live show to show how their dog could be killed and chopped up and fed out to another animal or used for blood and bone etc I would understand why they were criticised. Any way no point in arguing this nothing that is said and no amount of logic is going to change how I feel about this - even if I cant really understand why I feel like this .just think if you have to shoot something you shouldnt glorify it.
-
I knew you werent having a go at me and I sort of feel that my reaction to it all is rather emotional and unrealistic but its how I feel about it . Having a show put on killing and cutting up and serving the animal which has been known to those who visited and saw it as a living creature just makes me feel its a rather insensitive to those who had seen this animal as part of the zoo experience walking and moving around etc. There is a big difference between having an already dead chicken thrown to a croc or a lamb shank fed to a dog or even seeing the croc kill its own food because its an animal and not supposed to give a shit but as humans I feel we should consider taking the life of a living creature something that's done with some kind of empathy and sorrow - as a necessary evil - not as a basis for some side show. Its sick.

Yeah well I dont think meat comes in plastic trays and I can still drop a Roo from 300 metres away right between the eyes - if I have to shoot a sheep I dont call in the towns folk to watch me do it - I do all I can to do it quietly -out of sight because its not something I like to do and its not something I would like to watch someone else do. The idea that someone would think its no big deal for me to do that is disgusting because killing a living being should not be trivialised and in my opinion it shouldalways be seen to be a major deal. If someone said to me "Oh good can I come and watch you kill a sheep and cut it up and feed it to the dogs" - Id think there was something a bit wrong with them and I simply don't think it should be part of the zoo experience in front of a public audience. Im not saying Im upset about the thing being eaten with people watching - just dont agree with the entire process being presented the way it was.

Excellent - Glad you all like them.

Prednisolone and similar drugs are the most common type used for immune-mediated diseases. They suppress the immune system so the vet must feel there is a fair chance that its an immune system related cause. If this is the case the dog's body actually attacks its own blood etc as if its a disease. its sort of like the immune defence system is turned on due to a variety of reasons including over vaccination or use of some heart worm meds, exposure to viruses etc and it gets stuck and doesnt turn off . Prednisolone has some pretty big potential side affects too including a higher susceptibility to infections so anything you can do to keep the dog stress free and not exposed to anything you can to avoid that would push his immune system is a good thing. There are some herbal supplements which you can try as well if you are interested in looking at that.

Benefits Of Yoghurt And Probiotics
Steve replied to Canisbellum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The max daily requirements havent been established in dogs or humans - really high over dose like when they eat the whole bottle will show some runny poos but wont cause any long lasting harm. Protexin is 1- 2 g for puppies and 2-6 g for dogs - implies the small dog should get about 1/3 of what you give a big dog, a medium sized dog should get 2/3 dose if that helps - however a great big adult human gets the same dose as a 5 year old child of inner health. -
Well for the record its not about what animal it was for me and its not even about any thought the animal suffered. To turn killing an animal into a spectator sport for me is a step back for humanity.
-
I don't expect that a zoo animal which has been observed and enjoyed by people will be killed with a bloody cheer squad watching and an audience any more than I expect a cow or sheep to be paraded in the shopping centre , killed in front of an audience and chopped up ready for the table with humans eating it to demonstrate the food chain. I think its tacky to make killing things for any reason a public spectator sport.

I grow my own food and raise meat sheep.I breed stud animals - I understand the motivations and why it was done - just dont agree with the fanfare that went with it.

http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/254792-o-m-g-calendula-tea-rinse/ Calendula - Calendula officinalis: Calendula is naturally antifungal, antibacterial, 'anti-yeast' and most herbalists' first choice for yeast issues. -
I don't need an explanation as to why they did it - I know that already -and I understand it - its the way it was promoted and presented and made public that is questionable in my opinion.

You don't need this kind of harsh chemical to treat this - please try the calendula . Rinse in it and feed the spent tea to the dog fixes the skin issues and boosts the immune system. The active ingredient in malaseb is Miconazole - dangerous if ingested but anything applied on the skin and especially when you are directed to have it sit for 10 minutes is absolutely the last resort in my opinion as it absorbs through the skin - the dog's and yours. If you PM me your address Ill also send you a sample of a herbal cologne spray which you can use on bedding and living areas as well as the dog to cut down on re contracting spores etc from the environment. Every time you see a flea you have a high chance you have tape worm as the flea is the host for it - if you are looking at pre and pro biotics - much better to go protexin or inner health or similar rather than yoghurt - heaps bigger dosage - and remember to keep it refrigerated. If you buy a probiotic from a stock feed place make sure of its use by date and don't buy it if its not in the fridge. By the time you buy it - the good bacteria is dead. -
What Can Cause A Whole Litter To Be Born Dead?

E coli ? Ive also seen this three or four times with heartworm meds given to a pregnant bitch . -
The whole thing from go to end is a bloody disgrace - makes me ask if the animal world in general has flipped its lid.

Copenhagen Zoo has killed a healthy giraffe because of rules imposed by a European zoo association to deter inbreeding despite a wave of online protests to save it. Zoo spokesman Tobias Stenbaek Bro says it put down the male giraffe, named Marius, on Sunday using a bolt pistol and will feed its meat to carnivores in the zoo. Stenbaek Bro says the zoo was recommended to put down the giraffe by the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria because there were already a lot of giraffes with similar genes in the organisation's breeding program. Stenbaek Bro said EAZA membership isn't mandatory but most responsible zoos are members of the organisation, which works to conserve global biodiversity. An online petition to save Marius had received more than 20,000 signatures.

I think you have a breeder who is in experienced and who knows no better than to take the vets advice. If it was a more knowledgeable breeder they would know that you dont need to panic and how to deal with it and still let the puppies get the benefit of the socialisation the Mum and litter mates provide. I would explain that you would prefer the pup to stay because its important to you that it learns to act like a dog form its Mum and litter mates and that youcan be confident that its vaccinations are working before you bring it home - or alternative - I no longer have confidence in you and would prefer to go elsewhere for a puppy.
-
They use a scale to describe the amount of damage and once it gets to a damage situation rather than initial phases of kidney disease its virtually impossible to reverse it - your Mum's wasn't bad enough yet for it to be showing up in kidney function tests - certainly not as renal failure but for example once you get to a situation where you are looking at dialysis the chances of it repairing are nil. Much in the OP's case will depend on how much damage has been done. Once its diagnosed as chronic renal failure its starts to feel scary. If this were my dog I would take it to someone who was a natural therapy / herbalist practitioner and look at whether they had anything to offer - and Id do that quickly

Dogs Who Visit Hospitals And Nursing Homes
Steve replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
that's great Dougal....hope you and Chelsea are really enjoying your visits.....yes the assessment is a major thing and does really get the dogs used to what they will come across when visiting.....if you go to a disability centre there is also very loud noises that the dogs come across but they do get used to the noises although Dezzy wasn't phased by them at all :) dezzyno.1 Nominated for Excellence in Service and or Leadership in Canine Affairs for the work she does in this area ! Well done! -
You cant repair the damage done to kidneys but depending on what the problem is that is causing the damage you can have a fair go at preventing any more damage - there are several herbs recommended for this which would do no harm and may help. It may never get any better but it may not get any worse.

Yep matching shampoo, conditioner and cologne all smell the same. Ill put the shampoo and conditioner up on the site over the next few hours - been too busy talking to nominees for the awards but the cologne is already there. Link
-
That cologne is great for spraying on their beds and around living areas - lasts for ages and makes it smell like home and clean - especially in the winter time. The human stuff is coming soon and you can put that blend of oils into anything to make it smell like that - if you knew the secret recipe.
