  1. Over the last10 days pups breath has been quite pongy. The only things that have changed are: A switch of kibble from euk to RC Addition of chicken wings to his diet He is teething.... I have heard RC smells good on the breath and bones are supposed to help too...so the only thing I can think of is that pups gums are probably a bit smelly while he is losing his teeth?? I cant think of much else to help the breath...I cleaned his teeth on Sunday but they were smelly again 3 hours later (sigh)...do you think it will just subside when he gets his big shiny dog toothies? He has always had such lovely breath before now
  2. My pup thinks the vet is a playground We went to puppy pre-school there deliberately. He bolts throught he door tail wagging, looking for his playmates. The first thing I did every week of puppy pre-school was made him sit on the scales so he runs over there first too...the other people in the waiting room are always highly amused He struts around like he owns the place!
  3. My extended family live in Gunnedah....I am highly doubting the presence of a dog groomer there...and I wouldn't go there unless you had to Tamworth would be a better bet. Where on earth do you live? Coonabarrabran?
  4. I'm curious to know if you did the switch straight away or found some Eukanuba to do a gradual change? I did the gradual change...but just not as gradual as I should have. I did 2 servings with a 1/4 cup of each. That ended with one day of soft poops and from then on firmer poops than he's ever had! My Pup has a VERY sensitive stomach so I was quite nervous, as it so happens he has taken very well to RC. Anytime he tries something new, even the teeniest thing e.g. a new treat the size of my pinky nail, it upsets his stomach. The more he has the more upset it gets, so I have to take things quite slowly. The great thing with changing him to RC is he quite happily eats it on its own...the euk needed a small mince accompaniement to get him interested.
  5. I think 5 mo is a fear period which explains what's up with your pup. I'm not sure what the balance is between reeassurance and not rewarding the fear response at this stage...perhaps some experts will come and advise
  6. Not sure what it is in the eukanuba charli but I switched from eukanuba to RC on Thursday last week and over the space of 3 days my pup has gone from 4-6 soft poos a day to 1-3 nice firm ones that are even less smelly! I hope it works for you too if thats what you decide! Oh, and my pup also woofs down the RC on its own, I always used to have to disguise the eukanuba with mince etc. Nothing but positive changes!
  7. I decided this week to change my mini schnauzer Mazza from eukanuba to royal canin after doing some reading...mostly because he was doing 4-6 poos a day! Only problem is after a hectic week I only got time to buy the royal canin today and pup only has a cup of eukanuba left. I know this isn't enough to transition his food over properly, so I'm not sure what to do. Should I buy another bag of euk and swap him over properly at the end of that bag? OR Change over faster than desired and just deal with runny poos for a couple of days (if thats the effect)? Advice would be much appreciated!! ETA: If anyone in the Wollongong area has a cup or two of eukanuba puppy or a sample pack and feels like solving my problem feel free to let me know Am willing to buy a small amount to solve the issue.
  8. My pup has been on eukanuba since I got him on the breeders instructions...he has been doing 4-6 poos a day since I got him...hmmmmmmmm....he is due for a new bag of food, I have 1/4 bag of eukanuba left, I think we might give RC a go!
  9. Monty the Mini Schnauzer was PTS this morning. He was 13 years old, had severe pancreatitis and vomited 8 times this morning and was in extreme pain. He was a stunning dog and was the inspiration for our newest pup Mazza. His parents went away for 5 weeks and he held on for them to come home, he spent one last week with them, full of cuddles but his time had come. His ashes will be taken to a farm in Victoria whre he can be with other dogs and dream of BBQ chicken, his favourite treat. We will miss you Monty, sweet dreams xxxxx
  10. My pup has had one injection but it only lasts 3 months and I'm supposed to go back for another in a months time, but I would rather switch to the tabs after doing some reading. DO I just start monthly tabs from the date the next injetion was due or is it more complicated to switch over?
  11. Mazza hasn't had an accident at home for about a month, he likes to poop on his nans carpet but We will work on toilet training at all locations as time goes on...he is confused because he has an indoor toilet at home so if he cant find it he will choose whaterver is closest in texture, usually a rug - outside grass is a luxury :D Eldoop: have you ever tried the bell ringing method? Hang a bell or chime at nose height (the dogs not yours) and wack it everytime you open the door to let them out....I think you'll find they will start nudging it too. I have no idea how to make them bark to be let out, unless your willing to make them so busting they start to whine...but thats not really fun...
  12. Its normal...you relaxed the reigns too soon and he is letting you know. Go back to step one like he just arrived in the house and he will be back in order by the end of the week, he is far too young to self supervise, even if he is doing great, just keep using the same rules - pups thrive on consistency. I did the same thing with Mazza and I had to start back at square one, now he is fine but I wont be trying anything knew too soon. :D They are just lil pups after all.
  13. I'm sure she'll be fine. Be brave You will have a sleepy lil puppy to look after...when do you get to pick her up?
  14. You'll have better luck asking this in the health/nutrition forum instead I think...
  15. Hmmm not sure of the street...its better choice meats near woolworths. The guy who owns the place gives me enough brisket to last Maz about a month for $1.50, BUT I'm not sure his price is universal...he tells me I remind him of his daughter, I think he looks after me on that basis Whats the one on Daisy St called? My partners mum buys big bags of Brisket from petbarn for a reasonable price but they are waaaayyyy to fatty to give my pup, he would have runny poo for days! Friendly butcher cuts the fat off for me
  16. Maz did something quite similar at 14 weeks...its a boundary pushing time...tighten up on training and be really strict with all your rules...they get over it in a week or two, until next time
  17. I read your thread in the other forum chloebear...it was quite a bit of chow all added up when yu see it in a list, but an easy mistake to make if you dont think of it that way... Personally, I'd ditch all the fruit for a week and investigate pups responses to the other foods, reintroduce slowly and then you'll work out what is causing the diahorrea very quickly For Mazza's food and size he is supposed to eat 2.25 cups a day according to the pack. I halve that because I add lean meat and rice to the dry food and he eats about 50g of boiled chicken in training every day...all of that adds up to replace the dry food portion IMO. I occaisionally feed him a small piece of apple but thats it at the moment, I will try another fruit sometime soon but I'm concentrating on introducing slowly...the mess just isnt worth it! Plus, with a good quality dry food they get all the viatmins etc they need so I dont worry too much about trying to provide extras with a large variety of fruit and vege. I feed bones 3 times a week, and on those days its only dry food (a smaller portion) for dinner. Each dog is different but you will work it out in time. Good Luck
  18. I get my dry food at petbarn, on the main road from Wollongong to Figtree (follow crown street for 10 mins). They also sell brisket etc I believe but I just get mine from the butcher at fairymeadow...he is quite cheap. The other option is Petstock, they are on the princes hwy between wollongong and fairymeadow (only 5 mins out of the gong) they have both these things too but I dont like them as much. You can PM me if you need directions and want to tell me whereabouts you are.
  19. Hi Showdog, you seem to know ALOT about this. I have a S&P mini boy who is 16 weeks, I am currently feeding him on what the breeder recommended (high quality dry plus some extras) and he is healthy and has a great coat so far. Its interesting what you said about the beach and the beards...I took Maz to the beach once last wk and now I have noticed mild yellow staining on his beard, I did't connect the two at the time though. Do you have any hints for minimalising beard staining? Is there any grooming products that help? What do you feed your pups?? I'm not planning on showing my boy but I do love himprancing around looking gorgeous
  20. Hi Rainey, you're right it is 100% dominance! I actually use that position with Mazza if he gets completely nuts, I roll him over and place my hand firmly on his chest and he immediately goes limp. It is normal IMO for some pups to try and assert dominance, especially if they are new to playing with others...it is good to hear he can be put in his place though, the danger comes when warnings from other dogs are ignored. It would be interesting to see if he tries this with fellow big dogs...he would be extremely bold if he did. At puppy pre-school Maz will get quite dominant with pups his size and under but wouldn't dream of trying it with husky's or GSD's they all seem to know there place, he still plays with them but in a much milder way. Is Scud off lead during these times? Have you got some sort of plan for if things don't go quite right? There is alot of space at the beach for them to do a bolt if scared and they can be hard to grab if a fight breaks out and you dont have something to grab onto. I'm a bit of a fraidy cat...Maz always has his lead on when playing with others in public.
  21. Definitely normal! He's reminding you he is still a baby and you need to be super vigilant even though he is an angel. I have an angel myself and whenever I relax my vigilance I get a reminder it isn't time yet...it's easy to forget they are so little when they are so well behaved most of the time.
  22. It's funny! Maybe not for you but I'm sure you're looking back now laughing...I know that feeling of sheer dread. Mazza's favourite party trick is finding one of our bathroom doors open, grabbing the end of the toilet roll and bolting! He is quite skilled he can unravel a whole roll without breaking it  My greatest fear is the day Mazza gets enough strength in his hind legs to jump his barricade...it will be all over! Goodbye house! How was your second puppy preschool Rainey?
  23. Mine was 68.50 too...it was a C5. Mind you by the time we did that, heartorm, intestinal worm and flea and tick treatments...I didn't get change out of $150 bucks But, pup is all taken care of now and I am at content knowing we are covered.
  24. You can also touch the gums to check for dehydration. If your finger sticks its bad...if it slips off all is fine. Maz didn't drink much either in the first few days but he definitely knew where his water was because he would run there deliberately to drink...he didn't just stumble over it. Maybe check this out with cody..I also used to take him there every so often when I was worried, to remind him to have a drink, sometimes he did, sometimes he didn't but it didn't hurt. I think puppies are like toddlers, they get so caught up in playing etc that they forget to drink until they are sooooooper thirsty and they cant put it off any longer. Just keep an eye on him, he's probably fine.
  25. Ahhh, well done! To extend the magnitude of my success, puppy went to bed at 10 pm and strolled out at 8am!!! He must be EXHAUSTED ;) SUch a hard life, playing, eating, sleeping, playing, eating, sleeping....
