  1. Would someone be kind enough to send me the Ekka Catalogue please!!! [email protected] Thanks in anticipation!!! Regards, Pam
  2. No sorry, do you have any friends in the breed you can ask? Lol, lol, lol!!!
  3. I don't understand either why anyone would go to the expense and difficulty of importing an American showline of extreme angulation that is unlikely to be popular for any worthwhile purpose. I can't see American lines winning at shows or used for a working purpose superior to what we are breeding here. My faulty coated boy wasn't purchased for breeding or showing but neither would I go to the expence and trouble of importing a faulty dog as an ideal exercise. So, because a dog is imported from America it is faulty? Not every American dog is over angulated, just as not every dog of German origin is perfect! Both have their good points and maybe, just maybe their good points can compliment each other. It gets on my goat when people generalise about 'types', whatever they are, German, American, English, Working, whatever, they will pick out the most extreme example and bag the crap out of the 'type' as a whole. Of course there are extreme examples, you can find them in any breed in any country. Oh and just FYI dogs of American lines can and do win here. yes but they don't win where it counts.....Nationals for example or under specialist breed judges Where it counts for us is in the All Breeds ring. Our choice, no disrespect to those who chose to exhibit in the Speciality ring. We don't and have never thrown stones at the 'speciality' type and would appreciate the same consideration.
  4. That would be FOUR years in a row!!!
  5. All, OK, stop looking!!! The brooch has been found!!!
  6. Today at KCC Park, Group 6 Judge Shelley Turner has lost her gold Alaskan Malamute Sled Dog Brooch. If anyone happened to pick it up today, or comes across it at the next time they are at the Park, could you please give Shelley a call at Dishlickers on 03 59786001. Thanks
  7. A little exageration Colleen! The entire showground is NOT underwater, just the horse area. The rest of the grounds are just very wet!
  8. ;) missed that announcement - the club still has her listed. That's a bit disappointing - we get a bit excited if it's a Swedish or finnish judge! Especially when the replacement judge is from a totally different region! Tell me about it! Not for Sunbury but for the Gundog specialty. We had the Swedish judge and now have a Mexican judge Would much have preferred a Canadian judge as replacement! Ahh well Toller, the replacement judge for the Gundog show is a Canadian not a Mexican. Mr. D. Markus from Canada is replacing Moa Persson from Sweden, so I get you get your wish!!
  9. We currently have both breeds, and both are fabulous with children. Having raised two kids with both Goldies and Shepherds, I can honestly say we have never had an issue with either breed. A firm, but kind hand with both breeds as puppies is necessary as they can both be very unruly (and very destructive!!) if allowed to run wild. We recommend basic obedience training for manners, but the sky is the limit for both breeds in regards to formal obedience. It goes without saying that children should also have some basic training as to how to interact with their new puppy! Kids and puppies are a great mix, as long as there is mutual respect. Good luck with whichever breed you finally choose!!
  10. "Then a trend developed that unless you were going to show or breed and you passed the breeders eligibility criteria you got an unpapered (limited register) dog for the same price???. Hang on..........unpapered were always cheaper what gives here???" I think you will find that breeders do not discriminate between LR & MR puppies when they are being raised. ALL are raised in exactly the same manner. Just because there may be a long coat (applicable to my breed) that will obviously go on the LR, it is tended exactly the same way as the potential MR puppies, so why should it be cheaper? It is still are purebred puppy of known lineage, raised with care and should demand the same price as the MR puppies.
  11. We currently have 6 German Shepherds varying in age from 16 months to 13 years, AND a 2 year old Shetland Sheepdog. Guess who rules the roost, the Sheltie of course!!

  16. Guess you don't have your finger on the pulse of things as much as you beleive? I wasn't asking for your opinion on what I did or didn't know, just where these North American lines are in Australia. As I am obviously interested in these lines, I would be keen to connect with others that have the same interest. Yes the show was in Australia, Victoria to be specific.Guess the owners of the dog were lucky you weren't judging! Everyone has their own tastes in any breed however people do very much promote the word 'import' and yes, it very much features in their marketing as well as their attempts to discredit other breeders. (this is not second hand news, but what we get daily from phone calls from prospective buyers) So when you advertise, I assume you leave the IMP off your dogs names? Yes but unfortunately the general public is being misled (in my opinion) that only breeders using imported stock are considered higher quality. Please don't tar every breeder with the same brush. Of course there are breeders that discredit others, this is not isolated to people that own imports or German Shepherds for that matter You have just reiterated that you do consider someone that owns a dog with a fault to be not qualified to comment on the breed overall. Not really sure how you work that out. I don't recall questioning her right to an opinion or comment, just the hint of double standard in her original comment Regards
  17. Just where are these North American dogs in Australia. To my knowledge, there is only one kennel that springs to mind that has American/Canadian lines here? Are these dogs with American or German lines you are talking about? Was this in Australia? Did you ever consider that possibly people that import something just a little bit different to what is currently in this country actually like the style that they are bringing in? There may not be any sinister or ulterior motives for their decision? Not everyone plans their import purchases on future puppy sales. So I guess you could say a shepherd is a shepherd regardless of country of origin? if this were a short coated dog that was too large? That doesn't conform to the standard either....but it is not bad to own one nor should that person with the oversize dog because they own a dog with a fault, not be permitted to comment on the breed or the standard. Boy if that were the case, none of us could comment on anything...unless perhaps someone out there has perfect dogs and never had one with a fault of any nature? Never did I say it was wrong to own a dog that didn't conform to the standard! The original poster was apparantly amazed that people could own or import dogs of American origin and clearly (in his/her opinion) not adhering to the standard, yet could own a dog themselves that is unable to be shown here due to its coat fault. Again, each to their own. Regards.
  18. Excellent post Pebbles! A great reminder to doubters, that the majority of our top winning dogs are actually great representatives of their breed and more often than not deserve their winners status.
  19. Do you recall how those particular dogs scored in the shows???. In SA, any of the extremely angulated dogs of American lines would not score well and are generally considered most undesirable examples. It's difficult to image why someone would import those lines ;) More interesting and broad comments. Some may say it is difficult to image why someone would own a Long Coat when it does not comply with the breed standard? Each to their own I guess.
