  1. Earlier this year one of those little orange balls, which I am sure the dogs think are lollies, cost me $1800 when Lexi got a bowel blockage requiring emergency after hours surgery on a weekend! I know of a 9 month old puppy who died from a bowel blockage caused by a cocus palm nut, but as far as I know the seeds are not poisonous.
  2. What a great effort that is - well done I hear that the Ekka is a hard place to trial at which makes it even more special. Now onto your OC - Good luck!
  3. Thanks Arty Farty. I have been getting my carcasses from Lennards - but I now have to order them in advance and thought I would give the other place a go.......
  4. I have been trying to locate Beta Valet in Canning Vale. I have found their old details in Welshpool, but the phone number has been disconnected. Can anybody help please.......
  5. She is living in WA and I am looking after the BC in a couple of weeks time. I do have her mobile phone number if you PM me.
  6. Earlier this year my 2 year old toller had to have emergency surgery after a cocas palm nut caused a blockage - why do these things always happen afer hours and on a weekend. She was a bit quiet for a couple of days - but by day 5 was back to herself and it was a real effort keeping her from running around madly with the other kids until her stitches came out. By day 5 she was jumping on and off the bed
  7. Finally arrived home....... I had the best time ever - met lots of lovely people - shoemonster, Leopuppy and so many tollers at the one oval at the one time - it was brilliant. Scoota had his own fan club. Tickled pink with him. He struggled on the first day - didn't want to sit or drop and was flat as a tack on the second day. That was until winner of winner when I found his on button - with TWISTIES. He came out a happy camper full of beans. I Have relived winner of winners over and over and over - the first thing you usually teach a dog is SIT and how hard is it forward halt????? Hmm oh well back to the drawing board. He tried really hard and his tail never stopped wagging - what more could I ask for. To win UD and come 2nd in open is a dream come true - if only you could have all seen how disasterous our round the weekend before we flew out was. He is a very special boy, and sorry Ness - there was no chance of me dropping him off as we flew over SA. Now - everybody start saving and planning to come to WA in October 2009 for the next Nationals.
  8. We fly out first thing in the morning - so that means I have less that 24 hours to condense 3 suitcases into 1 Next year the Nationals are in Perth, so it won't be a problem, but I have decided that it is much easier to take a novice or CCD dog as you don't have to worry about scent articles x 4, gloves, dumbbells, seekbacks....... PS - my boys nick name is Moo!
  9. A & D Pet Foods Connections (08) 9250 1030 23 Elliott St Midvale WA 6056 South Street Pets Supplies (08) 9331 8100 372 South St O'Connor WA 6163
  10. There is a better place in Midvale which I think South Street Pet Supplies get their stock from. HMm think its called A + D Sales. We get our goat bones and dried goat from here and they also have the new Guppies chicken and vege balls (also lamb, steak and kangaroo ones) which have no preservatives in.
  11. South Street Pet Supplies - between Stock Road and Carrington Street. They sell beef, lamb, kangaroo, emu, horse, goat and some chicken, dried meats and bones of all shapes and sizes.
  12. If you think there are no problems with your dogs and you just want them checked - you could try Tracy Hockley who does bowen therapy - a lot of the show people take their dogs to see her. She charges $30 per dog and is wonderful with the dogs. She is in Jandakot - Pm me if you want her contact phone number.
  13. I saw Liz Frank this afternoon. Her fee was $49.50 (inclusive of GST) That sounds like a review consult with needles LOL The initial consult is usually a bit more expensive
  14. Not sure what your problems are - but grab a notebook - put a date up the top and then make a list of everything you want to work on, then after the lesson - write down everything you have learnt - because as sure as eggs you will forget some of it. Good luck - I hope it is money well spent.
  15. Lexi has only ever had 2 vaccinations - 1 at 8 weeks and 1 at 16 weeks and both were C3 (which is parvo, distemper and hepatitis). Zoe got her dogs done last week at the Mundaring Vets and he charged $90 to have parvo and distemper titers pulled, VetWest are now charging $118 - so if you do decide to have them done it might be worth the drive up the hill, or to ring around and see what other vets around you charge.
  16. Lexi's results have come back > 80 for parvo and 1:20 for distemper. Lexi was 2 in May and she had a C3 vaccination at 8 weeks and another C3 at 16 weeks. Interesting that her brother's titre results were both 1:20 for parvo and distemper and he received a C3 vacination at 8 weeks of age and has had nothing since.
  17. I had Scoota and Lexi titre tested on Saturday and got the results for Scoots tonight. Have to say I got dogs done earlier in the year and it was $88 - this time I was charged $118 each dog Scoota was vaccinated at 8 and 16 weeks with C3, he is currently 4 1/2 years old. He was last titred for Parvo and Distemper 2 1/2 years ago where both results were >80. This time the results were once again >80 for both Parvo and Distemper. Lexi's results will hopefully come back tomorrow.
  18. Try The Quokka which comes out on a Thursday - a friend got hers from there and it works well.
  19. I had C Giles for open at last years Nationals and have to agree he was lovely. From memory his heel round was much nicer than the previous days judge! And whats even better was - WE PASSED!
  20. I will not put my dog in a sit or down stay until after the leads have been taken and the judge has given his talk - otherwise a minute sit stays turns into a 5 minute sit stay. Most judges will not let you manhandle your dog - however they will allow you to play hand touches which usually makes the dog sit up straight. You can definitely play and touch your dog between the sit and down stay, or as soon as the judge says exercise finished.
  21. Yep had those done too. Have the Lab report in front of me and the urine and blood results confirm the hair analysis. The hair analysis was done by Interclinical Laboratories Pty Ltd in NSW
  22. Hmm interesting the comments about the different paces. I went to last years Nationals in Queensland and in CCD the judge was giving a sit, drop and stand in all three paces. I thought it was a bit tough at that level. I also got exactly the same heeling round in novice that I got in open - same judge and it went on and on and on..... :D
  23. Beans is on fish oil for her allergies and the other kids are on it because it is a natural anti-inflammatory. Beans weighs 15kg and she was getting 3000mg per day. I was using fish oil tablets which you get from a Pharmacy, 500 tablets for less than $20 - great value I thought. Then I had a hair analysis done on Beans and it showed the highest mercury levels they have ever seen in a dog. So do be careful that whatever fish oil you use has been mercury tested and that if you email the company they can actually give you proof that it has. Many will say yeah we test and then when you push nothing is forthcoming. I am now giving the kids Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil. Its expensive $38 a bottle but I know it has been mercury tested. A bottle lasts about a month and I give 1/2 teaspoon per day.
  24. Yep Liz Franks - works out of MillPoint Vet Centre which is opposite the zoo on a Monday afternoon. However, I have started going to Deb Nook who is an American vet who does accupuncture and she works from home which is in Riverton and she is brilliant. My dog has been injured for 18 months and we have had the best results since seeing her. Tracey Hockley is in Jandakot and she does bowen which is great for my old girl
  25. I can't wait to see so many red dogs all at the same oval at the same time. Yes we are staying for dinner. and as for the sits - I had a lesson last night with Sue H - all my problems have been solved - whew! Well at least until the next trial
