  1. Seekback - Put the handler scented article right next to the ring rope that separated the UD and UDX ring - the decoy was right in the middle of the ring and we had less than 10 seconds to put our smell on the article. PIM - the commands were different to what we get in WA Cloths - were 20cm at most apart Cones - you were sending your dog back towards the start peg and they were the small UDX cones Distance Control - hmm think that was pretty normal. Blind retrieve - hmmm OUtside the ring this judge had markers - so the ones we use for stays that stick into the ground - well instead of putting them into the ground so that they were flush with the grass - he turned them on their side so the were raised, so when you tried to do a blind retrieve all the dog saw were these markers and of course the occassionally clever one - raced out and tried to bring one back. The one he tried to pick up was actually the sendaway marker.
  2. Ummmmmmmm YES! Thankfully the majority do actually want you to pass I do have to say I learnt a few new judges percularities last night ;) Good to see you too kathq - hopefully not too much longer until you get your arm out of a sling and you can do a proper recall signal :D
  3. Terrific - there are a heap of snakes out and about in Brisbane at the moment - so all the trialling people keep telling me - add to that the tics and I am ready to come home.
  4. Gees not bad for somebody who hasn't trained for a couple of weeks - Super well done onto novice you go. Well done Bedazzled. I am looking forward to coming home and catching up with you, Caffy and Rubystar for some distraction training ;) Yep happy with the Occassionally Clever one tonight 2nd in UD with 193 and 2nd in Open with 194. If we manage to get a flight home he will go back with some excess baggage due to all the jackpots he has had.
  5. Tonight we had a lovely UDX judge who decided that UDX dogs were extra good so he was going to make it extra hard for them to pass. Needless to say - 9 dogs entered and surprise surprise - no passes. I was first in the ring and was happy with Moo - what we failed were his weak points and his other exercises are getting better He sat outside the cones to the left, MIssed a stand in COP and tried to bring back a marker in the blind retrieve. He then came out and put in his best UD round in ages and finished 2nd with 193 and then backed it up with 2nd in open with 194. He is sound asleep now - bless him
  6. I have to laugh - yes he is on holidays - never would I swim him the day of a trial, or the day before for that matter. Well he had a half an hour this morning - swimming and running around the dam, came in and played ball with his mate to dry off - so expect to not get out of third gear
  7. I have trouble hearing the judge expecially if they are behind me and the wind is blowing, so I usually say before we start and the judge usually says just stop and let me know and we can continue. So not sure if this would be the same for coughing or not. and thanks for the good luck wishes - I can't say that I am brimming with confidence for any of the classes
  8. Stupid fairy obviously got there late, was delayed in Victoria I think
  9. Hmm maybe the fairy dropped the X on her way over. I know there is some good UD news
  10. Just waiting for the carrier pidgeon to confirm some  news from WA
  11. I too am working on the theory that no training could produce anything. So the fairy will be busy tomorrow - Victoria, WA and Qld - yikes ours is a night trial so she will be stuffed by the time she gets to me Good luck girls.......:D
  12. Rubystar - you can tell you are enjoying training at the moment - goodonya
  13. We will start putting some distractions out soon ;)
  14. I use "fetch" for one and "find" for the other. Visual cue is a biggie though - you often see novice UD dogs who have been rewarded heavilty for seekback line up for the box and when sent to the box head off looking for their seekback. Hence the wheres the box game you have been playing ;)
  15. NIgel - makes me think of NIgel no friends Gees he is nice looking. Is he a keeper? WX - I hope you find the right home for your youngster. I don't doubt they would make a good agility dog.
  16. And what happens if they do birds that day???? Change of handler? LOL reach into my bag of tricks and bring out..........THE GLOVES!
  17. When I was in Brisbane in JUne for the Obedience Nationals I entered Moo in a RAT which was on the same day at the same venue. I piked out for 2 reasons - paralysis ticks, when I saw the area I wasn't prepared to run him and he was buggered after 2 days of obedience. But yep no reason why I couldn't unless the terrain was too tough and he might break AGAIN! I would like to give it a go with Strauss.
  18. Maybe the coloured dog hair we have on our clothing will be a hint as to who we are
  19. I brought mine before the latest rule change. The ones I have are allowed in WA and I used them at the Nationals in Brisbane in June, but nope they are not allowed in a normal Queensland trial :D Janet is no longer selling the type I have. Bedazzled has some of her newer ones. I am just tryting to contact somebody who works for Customs to find out if I can or can't .....
  20. Thanks Kallistar - I emailed Janet last night when I got home - this is where I got my original white leathers from that I wasn't allowed to use last night. She got back to me this morning and offered to post them straight away - but I have decided to wait until I get home. I have found something possibly suitable in the uK. Does anybody know if you can import cow hide into Oz?
  21. How is your girl with cars starting or driving past? and if you separate your boy and your girl does it make a difference to how they react? I know with my kids its one or two initally reacting that send the others into a frenzie
  22. I have to say that with this class if you waited for a pass to be happy - then you might as well give up. I was extra happy with his work and failing the last exercise - oh well - the rest was nice and all the little things we have been having problems with, were not there Kallistar - where did you get your leathers from???? Can others buy them? Interesting observation from last night and talking to other UDX triallers, seekback with decoy seems to be a huge problem, dogs become very unsure and most give up UD as the dogs end up standing over the seekback or not bringing it back at all in both UD and UDX. They find the correct artcile and then doubt themselves so find the wrong one and then get very confused. Hmm I can relate to this.
  23. Yep my dogs go into a frenzie when I start the lawn mower, ride on, or whipper snipper. Luckily once the machine is started they all go and chill out and 10 seconds after starting you would never know anything had happened. At this stage I leave them locked inside and mum lets them out once I have pulled the cord. I still don;t know what it is that pushes their buttons - ? the noise, its not the movement as the machine is usually still stationery, and I can't even say its the action of pulling the cord as the ride on is key started. Sorry but have no suggestions what you can try - but will pass on my invitation to come for a boat ride ;)
  24. My white leathers that I use normally, and were bought here in Queensland are stitched and that be the problem. My new white leathers aren't and yep blind retrieve was the only exercise we failed and he had absolutely no idea. I took him off later and we did another couple, without the dead grass between me and the article and using my usual leathers and he struggled when he couldn't see them - but thats a known problem, but at least he headed in the right direction and managed to hunt them down.
