  1. No it's never good manners to let your dogs run up to others unknown to them in a public place...specially in an area which is designated on leash. Unfortunately these owners exist everywhere and you'll see them back in the Big Smoke if you go back. Small town gossip can be a pain to deal with..but the points given above by Alpa Bet could help. If it was me I'd continue going to the places you enjoy..if uncontrolled dogs approach you just calmly explain your situation ...hopefully it won't fall on uneducated ears..Even in an off leash area all dogs should be in effective control by their owners. It is not your job to control others dogs if they approach you. I don't do to my local off leash much at all as the owners there mostly stand in a group and talk while their dogs mooch around and some of them can be annoying. Theybare very set in their ways so I don't bother with them. Sre there any another places you can walk your dogs where you'd be not bothered with others?
  2. yes the Alsation and the German Shepherd are the same dog..the name was changed to Alsatian during the Great War...because of the enmity between the English and the Germans The Englosh did the name changing . I've also noticed that American Staffordshires are a very solid muscular dogs...well bred ones being exhibited at the Royal for example and many so called PitBulls are much lighter framed....such a damn shame so many dogs are being targeted by this stupid stupid BSL ....will it ever be dumped and knowledgable people have a determining input???

  11. Jed you always say and do the perfect thing..that's beautiful. I remember reading something written by Elizabeth Kubler Ross..it was concerning the death of a little girl in a shark attack..horrible scenario ..and her interpretation was that the spirit of that child was immediately taken up ad away from the scene and into peace. I'd like to think that that applies to your sweet boy Caz.
  12. I think the worst thing I've experienced was when I was living with my sons family in the country Two years ago. I'd gone down to register my car and when I got home there were two strange bull breed type dogs in my yard and women from the house over the back trying to get these dogs back in there own yard. they had jumped over the fence and attacked our dogs..a Pointer cross..a Wolfie cross ..and a Cavalier. the yard was awash where the women had tried to hose the dogs. We got their dogs out of the yard and then I realized the Wolfie was missing..the women were no help...i searched for him and then rang my son to come and help. then I saw this soaked dark grey dog cowering in the dog kennel. half dead he was..I didn't recognize our Wolfie ..a white dog. he'd been set upon by the fence jumpers who also bit my small Cavalier. the Wolfie took months to recover and his wounds were horrible. my son dealt with the owners of the fence jumpers. It was a wonder the small Cav survived the attack. The elderly Pointer was OK.
  13. Dogmad if I were you Id be driving if you could to another area and walk...I was once walking my Dane Abbie some years ago and a woman said to me don't come down this street as two aggro dogs will jump through their front windows and attack you both if they see you..luckily that didn't happen but I never went down that street again. I also always carried a metre long horsewhip with me in case I ever had to deal with aggressive dogs. Where I now live there's a very pleasant little dog park ..generally no probs.. But one day a local elderly lady and her little Schkiperke were out for a wander...he was attacked by a large Boxer I think from memory. The Schkiperke was just about ripped open and if it wasn't for my nephew who flew out to help..in his dressing gown..Bargy would not be pottering round that park today...
  14. Can't say I'm sorry that the big dog will be put down...something should have been done about him ages ago. I do feel for the family and little girls who loved Charlie..as if they hadn't had enough to deal with.
  15. Read again where it says the little dogs dug out of their yard ..they were not habitual, roamers or aggressive likenthenattacking dogs. if any pair of dogs should be put down its these two large dogs...too late for any rehabilitation..their idiot owners won't be any good there. And they rushed a child who was yelling for help for Gods sake....My Lord I'd make it my special task to get these dogs off the street and headed for euthanasia.mid it was my dog who suffered like Charlie.
  16. Ukranian Rite priests Arne not the same as Roman Rite priests...all Orthodox rites have the option to marry...not so the Roman rite..where celibacy is imposed. in rare circumstances a married man can be ordained in the Roman Rite..sorry this thread went priestly!!
  17. Thank you everyone for your input..the vibrating coller is a great idea...Jules the Vet in whose care this puppy is has a special interest in special needs dogs and no doubt would have checked that..some puppies come to their new homes with mild ear infections...Star did and was fixed up very quickly with the right meds. However this dear little bloke is snow white with the exception of one black spot ..bout the size of fifty cents..not sure if he has blue eyes as he was mostly asleep, when I saw him and could have still had the bluey eyes baby puppies have...he was only eight weeks old..another wrong thing ...I would say he has the deafness associated with the white coloration...His Vet did go over him with a fine tooth comb and was very irate with the so called breeder..one good thing was that the owners were refunded a significant amount of money from the group that sold him.So the sellers were not completely bad. This Vet runs her own puppy per school .a pretty good one so hell get a good start. You are right Chezzy he landed in the perfect home..he's living like a little prince I can tell you.. Thank You again all....:)
  18. I'm looking for some info which aid like to,pass on to some friends of mine who recently bought a Staffy cross puppy which on examination by their Vet was found to be deaf. The puppy came from a place which sells pups ..not a reg breeder and the new owners do not know who the breeder is... This is not the point here..the pup is now in an excellent home and the owners will do all the right things for him . They will teach him using hand signals etc appropriate for a deaf dog... I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good trainer/ behaviourists for deaf dogs. The owners Vet has a committed interest in special needs dogs So theyare very fortunate in that area..I just thought I would pass onto them any further info which would be helpful for them towards the care of this dear little pup. He is totally white save for one black spot on his rump. This little fellow could not have found himself a more loving home I am more than aware of the whole don't buy from bybers etc etc..so don't waste time going over this...just helpfull info for the long term interest of this little fellow..PM me if you prefer or just respond here.....all will be gratefully received and passed on..Thanks DOLers
  19. Lol ...too funny .but waiting for the Hard Hearted Hannah owners to huff in and say they would never tolerate such behaviours,,,

  21. I was about to freshen the seed in the budgie cage one day years ago and my Great Dane Abbie was standing beside me watching..suddenly the Budge flew out of the cage and Abbie hopped up on her hind legs and caught the birdie in her mouth!! I was able to get the somewhat sodden Budgie out of her soft mouth and put it back in the cage ..none the worse for wear except for a bit of slobber...very lucky bird...lol
  22. it seems to me this little dog is going into a great situation...Cvs can easily manage being left alone..certainly more than 30 minutes. Hes had a very varied life so far ...lots of different situations and sounds like he's a well rounded little dog. While Cavs are a very appealing breed..don't think they are so delicate as to be overly cosseted..they are feisty litte dogs! Your home sounds like a great place for a little spaniel...go for it!
  23. Lol...I have a post shower leg licker too... I don't like it and shoo him away and dry my own leg thanks very much. he's also a wait outside the door if I'm in another room with the door closed. pretty usual things I think but the thing that does make me laugh is the way Star will put any toy or interesting thing he wants to chew on the instep of my foot and chew away happily...not my foot but the thing he's gnawin on...quite weird and no other dog I've ever had does anything like that...lol
