  4. Oh this is the worst thing...same thing happened to me last year I was in Sydney and my Cavalier Star was lost in Gunnedah ...I got him back after I put a call over the local radio...someone had picked him up and had also called the local radio station..Try that if you haven't already. I do so hope he is returned to you safe and sound.
  5. IMO all breeders can produce poor stock. Luck of the draw. I am continually surprised however by situations which contradict well publicised statements of ethics by some of the well known breeders ..even those considered top breeders. And keeping these contradictions secret ..so they think..... happens so often. The truth does out though eventually ...just another thought...;) And so concludes my contribution to this interesting discussion.
  6. So many thoughts...the simple drawing together of facts and the resulting dissaproval and condemnation..truely deserved??
  7. Thanks for the link..helpful ...for some. "[ Some" being the operative word in this discussion.
  8. Its the business of the individual breeder. Is the setting up of The Breeding Police looming?
  9. Another thing Ive noticed on this forum in regard to this question of larger scale breeders...is the recent publication of the numbers of litters and puppies thereof of certain breeders in a certain breed. All information which is free to the general public so no laws were being broken. However the comments and asumptions by members of this forum would lead people too believe that these larger scale breeders are in their view irresponsible puppy farmers in it only for the money. The publication of these lists prompting one breeder to respond in a no doubt negative frame of mind. And I dont blame the breeders concerned. These puppy farming asumptions are just that assumptions..and while there may be some registered breeders whos paractices are less than best it cannot be presumed that the breeder heading the list is by any means prompted by profit only..In my experience their motives are quite the opposite. I would say those breeders have every right to be incensed by the publication of those stats and the judgements made on them. A clever way to criticise and condemn while doing nothing that could be considered libellous.; Just a thought I had....
  10. This very topic has been on my mind too....this forum is always promoting the general public buy only pure bred dogs. Right ..fine and dandy..lets do just that. Couldnt agree more. And where do we go for said pups..registered breeders..very good..and we are presuming they are ethical breeders, commited to the lifetime care of the animals they produce..show their dogs and try to conform to the standard. They are conscious of the health requirements of the breed and produce with the view to eliminating inherited genetic problems. They ll be happy to take back any pups theyve bred and rehome if neccesary...they introduce new blood from OS to compliment their lines...or new blood from other kennels for th same purpose. They are involved in promoting their breed and are happty to talk to people and answer their questions and invite people to visit ..often. When we say dedicated breeders should breed only to improve..wellonce again ..fine and dandy..but what is thye ultimate aim? Are Poodles being improved to better take part in a retrieval from the water..are Great Danes improved to better run down and hold a boar? Are Pointers improved so they can better indicate hidden birds??? Not so much these days..many breeds whos purpose was an active one in the field for various reasons are now simply show dogs whose most heart stopping activity is going out and back and stacking beautifully for examination. i acknowledge there are many actual working breeds which are actually working..eg., herders etc. and yes their breeders are working to improive them for that purpose. So..what about all the other breeds..oh we all know there are many breeds now whos original purpose no longer exists...too many to list but you get my point. I cannot see any problem with a committed bteeder who breeds more than what some would say is accepted practice...if they do all the above with respect to the dogs they produce. The public should be able to go to these breeders for a well rounded pet if they want one. Not everyone is interested in the show ring and all its political intrigues..as well as its positive contributions..and we all know only too well the show ring is host to some very strange people at times. I really think the ANKC is shooting itself in the foot when they advise against breeding for the public who want a well bred pup..otherwise they go straight to the BYBers and that horrible can of worms...can of pythons more like. All the kennel clubs are wondering why membership is dropping off..could it be that they are just too elitist for their own good??? Just a thought thats been running through my head. In case I am about to be burnt at the stake..let me say plainly thatI am a supporter and admirer of registered and commited breeders..its just that "{shot in the foot "thing that intrigues me....
  11. I have a Cav and he is certainly not a mad shedder apologies if Ive posted this earlier..nana brain..lol I get the ocasional little bit of black fluff..nothing seroius at all. A regular good brush does the trick. Star is an indoor dog in a small unit with a little garden and he is very easy to manage. He has lived with several large breeds including Wolfhounds Danes Pointers and Pit Bull crosses all except the Danes and Staffies were active hunting dogs and they all got on like a house on fire. Hes super friendly with all people and other dogs ..a delight to own ..outgoing and fearless...Of all the toy breeds Ive met so far hes the best..wish id had Cavs a lot sooner.
  12. CAVALIER KING CHARLES>>>>>>> Thety have everything youve listed in spades..cant go wrong!
  13. I just sent the breeder of my Cavalier an email and a pic of him..she loved it and asked if she could include it on her new website ..I of course said yes. So generally breeders love to hear from their puppy owners...anything could be happening to prevent them answering you..but I do hope you hear soon.
  14. Hi there...I have a heavily marked Tri ...when he came to me he had white flashes over his back..these have dissapeared over the last twelve months and now all he has is a very tiny inch long dash of a few white hairs. So yes white can fade, perhaps not completely though. If you are after a pet only and he has been properly health tested the bit of white will make no difference. If you really want a correctly marked black and tan why not wait till this breeder has other pups available or go to another registered breeder.
  15. Cavaliers tick all my boxes for a small dog...coats are easy to maintain and they are such handsome little critters. Very very loving.
  16. CaseyKay I dont think youd have any trouble combining a Cav and your BCs. Mine lives with three other large breed crosses and they get on very well. Stars best mate is a huge Wolfhound cross and he has lived with Great Danes and Staffies also. Id say go for it...
  17. Cavaliers are certainly attractive little dogs regardless of colour ...but my fave is the Tri. I love the black and tan combo with the white flashes. Mine is a heavily marked Tri but thats my preference. You could always let your head go CavvyS and have one of each!!
  18. I think this could rate fairly high on the cute factor.... a very baby Cav.....
  19. A special tribute Horts...just right. Fly free you gorgeous old fella.
  20. Caz I second the raw idea..be it chicken, beef or lamb. I used to get off cuts from the butcher which were quite often meaty bones. Great for the teeth and should help getting them back to pearly white..lol.. I give Star raw chicken wings and legs and his teeth are great.
  21. Im suggesting Cavaliers again...wonderful little dogs with children..a longish coat but easy to maintain, active with a sweet and outgoing disposition..the perfect' little' spaniel. Just thought Id throw this pic in to prove my point...lol..my grandaughter and my Cav Star....
