  1. nasty bleeding kids....poor little bloke...hope he's reunited with his owners or is adopted by someone who will be kind to him
  2. A lovely story Destroya...I too have been on the receiving end of kindness like yours. I? Was living in Gunnedah with my son and family and came down to Sydney to see my mother. Justbafter I arrived my son rang me to say my Cavalier Star had disappeared from their backyard and despite him driving around looking for hours he was nowhere to be sen. You can imagine my frustration and worry being hundreds of miles away and not being able to do anything. I rang all the vets in Gunnedah and left a description etc.. No sign...one of the receptionists suggested I leave a message with the local radio station. Imdidmthis and shortly after got a call to say he'd been found ...he'd wandered mother road and was playing with some children who'd come to visit their grandma. Sh e had taken him in and her daughter had held him overnight and returned him to my son after I'd rung her. I gave flowers and chocolates all round!!! I was afraid that he'd been stolen to breed with as he hadn't then been desexed... Too young and..his microchip had disappeared !!L Sometimes happens the Vet told me later when he got a new one. And of course he's now desexed. I was very grateful for the kind actions of those ladies.
  3. Well they may not have tortured the dogs and cats but they bleepingly knowingly caused serious stress and alarm and their rough handling certainly would have compounded that. They displayed a very nasty mind set and one wonders what else they could be capable of ...
  4. I would also agree that it is not a good idea to get a puppy or older dog when both partners are not in full, agreement about getting one and the very young ages of the children' may be another factor that could prove difficult especially when the father in this case has some pretty uninformed ideas about what breed would be most suitable even if Mum was enthusiastic and the children a little older. The ages of the Kidlets shouldn't be a significant problem though if the parents were sensibly dog savvy and able to effectively teach both puppy and children to live happily together. However if all these things were in play I can highly recommend Mannabred Labradors. have a look at their site and some of their dogs are listed on the breed profiles here on DOL My sister has a black Mannabred boy..and I can honestly say he is one of the best dogs I've ever had the pleasure to know. He is beautifully bred from impressive stock..he has an absolutely bomb proof temperament and is always friendly and gentle with everyone. Simply can't fault him...if I were to put a dog in a family like your sisters..a dog like Nelson would be the way to go. Give Mannabred some thought.
  5. I'm with JulesLovesCavs...I was surprised to realize how food oriented my own Cav is...even after a very suitable meal he looks for more...and more and more!! If I gave him everything he asks for he would be enormous. This is why he has a lite kibble and gnaws on carrots instead of fatty dog treats. And the chicken necks have been drastically reduced. My sister and I fondly remember her Lab Retriever Nelly who even in her last days when she was hardly able to get up prior to being given her wings her ability to snatch a treat with lightning speed never left her.
  6. Agree ...although I would think that because the way the dog was treated was not prompted by cruelty but ignorance may complicate matters. Elderly owners? Would the RSPCA treat a case like this with the balance it requires?? Some how I don't think so.
  7. Breed standards exist for a reason and this is for the overall health and well being of the individual dog. It is quite right to say that a dedicated Dane owner would cringe when looking at this poor dog. Everything is wrong. He seems like he has a sweet temperament and is well loved by his owners but they are obviously oblivious to the terrible condition he's in...ignorance will certainly not be bliss for Zeus ultimately. I also think it is sickening for anyone to be giving any kind of credit or acclamation to the thinnest fattest tallest oldest puppy bearing bitch.. ..etc And moronic comments about horses saddles and George must be fuming and so on speak of nothing but ignorance Giant George is also a poor example of the breed... The standard exists for a reason.
  8. Hi Cavs Ive sent you a pm with the details ... :) Liebhunde ETA...I don't know what your location is Cav so I hope the info I sent you is helpful ..might be way out of your neck of the woods!
  9. hi JoannP I've sent you a pm about a private set up that I have used for my Cavalier...excellent set up and care. Hope it may be helpful. I have told the owners that I would happily recommend them to any Cavalier owners. if you speak to them just say Stars owner sent you!! Lol
  10. Hi Perfumed Lillium...such a sweet smelling moniker you have...lol. Re the clipping of my Cavs coat..he does of course still shed a bit but not nearly as noticeably as with the long feathers. I agree I'd never touch the coat of a Pom or Spitz ...just wouldn't look right...but you can easily tidy up a Cavalier coat. I never touch the tail plume though.. I hope your friends little Bella is allowed inside in the Summer...they do love being with their people all the time. A carefullbrushing will help.. And a good groomer.
  11. What an eclectic list you've got Steph ..a lot to think about. I agree it's a great idea to visit shows and breeders but I'm also putting up my hand for a Cavalier. I live in a small apartment which has a little garden..I'm also near two lovely big parks and live In a very dog popular suburb in Sydney's Inner West I keep my Cav in a short clip which makes indoor life a lot easier..hardly any hair anywhere. Mine will alert bark if a sudden noise happens but is not a constant yapper. More than happy to snooze on any available soft spot but also loves a mad run round the park and is very social with other dogs and loves everybody. That's him looking at you from my sig.
  12. Possible to see a pic of both types? My sister has a show bred Lab and her daughter recently got a Lab which is a lot finer boned..sounds like he is from working lines. Quite a few times people have thought ..or rather insisted.. that my sisters Lab must be a Rottie cross because of his solid build. He isn't of course..came from a well respected breeder but you know what some people are like.
  13. Dont think he likes ypur cooking Horts... Lol
  14. They look like a very nice style of dog to me...wish people would realize that a well trained hunting dog does not touch domestic and native stock and in the process of hunting feral pigs will bail and "hold" till it's dispatched.
  15. Ten years old and looking great! happy birthday sweet girl..:)
  16. It would be very interesting to know where all those Cavs you groomed came from Arcane...might well answer the question as to why they had so many problems.
  17. And there I think is the answer to to the unfortunate little dogs that have passed through your hands Arcane... Victims of the popularity spike which has happened to many breeds They are a very appealing breed ... many produced by BYBs for profit with no regard for breed health and improvement and used in cross breeding to produce all those "Oodliers" so often offered for sale. The answer is always buy from ethical breeders who are dedicated to the welfare of the breed"
  18. I have a two year old Cavalier..my first..so I've not been with the breed for long but he is perfectly healthy and came from a reputable breeder. All breeds have health issues so dont be put off by any extreme situations that may exist in other countries. There are many good breeders in Australia who health test their stock.. Do your research or go to the Cavalier thread and ask the knowledgable people there.
  19. Weeeeeeell I'll,have to say Cavalier wouldn't I? Lol. Shedding? My Cav is inside most of the time and I can honestly say its not a big deal at all. if you groom regularly..which in itself is a very therapeutic activity for both dog and owner ..and if you choose to keep these dear little spaniels in a shorter tidier clip ..can't see a problem there. Personality wise they are multifaceted...happy to sit quietly with you or enjoy a walk ..long or short sedate or excited. They are out going and friendly and socialize easily. Toilet training is uncomplicated and when established life's a breeze in that department. They are such a soft and loving little dog I think they really are the perfect companion for someone who doesn't have a lot of energy to expend.. And...they are very very handsome in their four colours. NO doubt many good breeders in Vic.
  20. Well chicken it is then Horts...does he like chicken frames..which are of course a lot bigger with more flesh.. STrange how he got hold of your lap top...lol
  21. Well chicken it is then Horts...does he like chicken frames..which are of course a lot bigger with more flesh..
  22. Wonder if he would like mutton flaps Horts...well known for putting weight on...He's doing well though and I suppose it's better to go steadily.
  23. Horaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!! So glad Jed popped in and contributed her pearls of wisdom. I was thinking along the same lines too. I'm sure you'll find a good breeder and once again have the dog you really want...:)
